July artwork for TADwRain

Don’t be fooled, I’m still taking a recess from the Blogosphere playground for the most part.  Each day, I try to work on my A2Z Little Mermaid ‘in living color’ series or roughout ideas for Rain’s intriguing prompts. Some stump me, so I’m thankful she provides examples to stretch my imagination in the general direction.

Over the past couple of weeks, I illustrated some artwork using the TADwR weekly suggestions but I have been too busy to give the themes the kind of attention I want.  I keep things easy going, whipping out my iPad when time permits because even art shouldn’t be forced or it won’t be fun.

Not wishing to sit on my contributions until my September return, I felt it might work out fine to do a little show and tell today and if everything falls into place, then next month about this time I’ll do another artsy share with you with a link back to Rain’s original weekly art features.

July 4th ‘Flora’.

My first thought about ‘Flora’ was to draw something flowery, which I did with the yard in full bloom but I had not thought about trees being part of that theme, so I was very glad Rain oriented my thought pattern to create this last illustration. It might be my favorite of the two. What do you think, do you like one better than the other?

July 11th ‘Camping/Campfire’ and  18th ‘Yellow & Orange’.

Looking over this piece after completion it dawned on me that my image evolved in a totally unplanned manner to contain not only the themes listed but this week’s theme 25th ‘XRay/Negative Image.  Don’t you just love little happy accidents like that? 😉

I Googled Rain’s theme for this week getting results for ‘negative space’ when I came up with sketches of chairs, ladders, etc which sparked my imagination to draw a single chair but being me I felt it needed something more so I added a cat which looked like he was ready to pounce on something, so I put in another element, a little mouse.

Over the weekend, DH and I watched some old clips from Apollo’s successful landing and Neil Armstrong’s historic first step on the moon.  Those vintage videos inspired me to add one more illustration because it seemed a purrfect fit for Rain’s prompt.

All of my digital images, I used the apps painting and airbrush tools to give that painting-like essence which I really like.  One day, I’ll graduate to old-school medium but for now, I can experiment and enjoy the process without further expense or mess.

I wanted to lay down more illustrations but as I mentioned I have many things taking up my brain energy and time.  I’m really quite ashamed considering what others accomplish with their days and yet they find time to draw.  Perhaps, someday I’ll find a better rhythm for a more balanced life but don’t hold your breath. I don’t want any of you passing out on me. 😉

Thanks for stopping in with your coffee for a peek at my masterpiece and …oh yeah for not spilling it on my artwork lol   It’s been a super pleasure to share my sprinkle of talent I have with you this morning. 😘 If you like to see what others are bringing to the art play date, then I invite you to high tail it over to Rain’s Garden to browse through the gallery of artistry!

On the 4M dance floor this week, I featured Laine Hardy and it’s never too late to boogie with me,  but if you’d like to get to know a little about the newest AI, listen to Laine’s Border Crossings’ interview.

That’s it for this now but please don’t forget to hit the dance floor with your choice song picks on Monday’s Mewsic Moves Me on Sunday!

    1. Sandy,

I wouldn’t have found near the inspiration had it not been for Rain stirring me in the right direction. It was a fun art challenge. 🙂

  1. Hi Cathy, thank you for bringing your artistic talents to blogland! I love them all, especially the campfire scene. Keep on boogieing!

  2. My fave is the second one. I just really love the purple and the way the whole piece looks misty. Also. Your disco drawing looks like my shower head. For real. Every morning and every night the disco shower head to glowing. 🙂

    1. I’m glad you picked up on the misty essences of my second flora scene. 🙂 The disco ball comic I didn’t draw. I borrowed it from the net. 🙂 But…your shower head glows? Does it have a heat lamp?

  3. Of the first two, I like the first one best. But that’s just me. I’m impressed by your artwork. I never could draw, nor did I ever attempt to learn.

  4. Hi Cathy 🙂 Thank you for joining in! 🙂 You are so right, anything forced isn’t fun at all, I’m glad you took your time because your pieces are just lovely. Your first “flora” piece is wonderful, I LOVE the background beyond the fence…very nice! I’m a tree gal so yes, your second one is my fave of the two. I love the movement in the grass in the front of the drawing!

Your combo campfire entry is great! Happy little accidents ROCK!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂
I like that you added the North Star (?) to the sky! Wonderful, the sunset is so pretty too, or is that the Auroras? I’d love to be out there right now, snuggling up with Alex by the campfire!! 🙂

Your chair/cat/mouse piece is great, it’s a just how a night scene would look if you had night vision! And your Apollo piece is wonderful! You did such a great job on it, it looks almost eerie! Love it!! 🙂 I love the UFO funny, that made me giggle!

    1. Rain,

Yes, that’s the sunset setting. After I added the stars I thought would you really see them with the sun still that visible in the sky? I guess you might the farther north you live and being deep in the woods with no city light to distract you.

    1. Jacqui,

I am on break, seriously. That’s why I’m only blogging for the most part just one day a week but I couldn’t sit on my artwork any longer, though. 🙂

  5. Hi, Cathy!

I am pleasantly surprised to see you back here at CAAC and posting more of your fine artwork! I favor the first drawing, July 4th Flora. It is simply charming. The color scheme is eye pleasing and the setting makes me want to go there, to be there, and soak up some serenity. I can tell that black cat is curious, waiting in the tall grass for a bug or butterfly to go in motion so that he can do what comes naturally and pounce. I am enthralled with your yellow and orange composition showing a couple roasting wieners or marshmallows at a campfire in the woods. The negative image effect is eerie, making it look like a creepy scene from Twin Peaks. I also truly love the negative space drawing of the bare bones room with only a chair, a kitty and a mouse. I am also “over the moon” about your sketch showing Neil Armstrong coming down the ladder to become the first man to set foot on the lunar surface 50 years ago. It’s terrific and inspiring, Cathy!

I think Laine Hardy could be as big a recording star as the AI winners mentioned in the piece – Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. He’s the real deal, and still so very young – turning 19 a couple months from now!

I enjoyed the cartoon of the little green men from Mars baffling the earthling with a disco light. 🙂

Thanks for the morning entertainment, dear friend Cathy. As for your artwork, I told you before and I’ll say it again, you have a torrent of talent… not a mere sprinkle. Enjoy the rest of your week, dearie!

    1. Tom,

Your generous words of praise humble me. Thank you. You’re much too kind. I do love doodling and am happy that you take the time to check it out. I like how you often tie my illustrations to a movie or TV show, as you did with my camping scene. I had hoped the Twin Peaks reboot series would show up on Netflix or Amazon Prime but it hasn’t yet. Did you watch it? I don’t have much recollection of moon landing or Armstrong. I was six months short of my 8th birthday, so I’m not sure why I don’t remember this unless my folks didn’t have a TV during that time which highly possible. Or, it could be I was just outside being a kid playing the day away with no thought about space travel. Laine is the real deal and has a bright future ahead. I hope he doesn’t get lost in all the glamor ugly stuff that comes with being a celebrity.

  6. Good to see you staying busy with your creativity over the summer. Hope your sunny season stays comfy and productive.

    Lee

    1. Lee,

I’m enjoying some relaxing time spent with my art in between the chaos that seems to follow. 🙂 Here’s to a good and happy summer what’s left of it. 🙂
