Monday's Music Moves Me

British pop band, #Steps ‘Story of the Heart’ #yourchoicesongpicks

Awww Mondays hosted by Sandee at Comedy Plus

Welcome to Monday’s Mewsic Moves Me on Sunday!

July is coming to a quick end.  I want to thank John from Driller’s Place for being this month’s honorary co-host.  It was a privilege having you on board. You’re welcome to fill in again any time you’d like. Just let me know.  For the last Monday of the month, it’s your choice song picks which means anything goes. So have fun and get your boogie on!

Last week’s mewsic theme was really fun.  Some of y’all reminded us of other shows that host mewsical talent like America’s Got Talent which I sorta thought about but didn’t really delve into it and then while at YT toward the end of the week this video captured my eye, so I wanted to share it with you guys.

It’s great to learn about Grace’s success off-screen. I always wonder what becomes of these youngsters who blow us away with their talents on such shows as AGT. I hope she never loses her sweetness while she continues to bloom in the entertainment industry.

Now pressing forward to this week’s choices.  I always keep YT mewsic saved for the weeks 4M doesn’t have a theme.  Sure, I could’ve continued last week’s theme but I was reminded of the British pop group, Steps while tune surfacing. I came across Scared of the Dark,  that  I included in last July’s ‘number song titles’  lineup.   Here’s a lovely track from their 2017 album, Tears On The Dance Floor, Story of a Heart.

On behalf of the 4M crew,  we’re so happy you joined our party today and invite you to link your mewsic posts below. You’re welcome to add the linky code to your blog and if you would, please add a link back to the 4M (Marie, Stacy, Alana, Colette, or Cathy) hostess of your choice.  All other posts are subject for immediate removal or labeled NO MUSIC.

ATTENTION!!! Would you like to be an honorary co-host? If so, shoot me an email or leave me a comment saying ‘YES, sign me up!’ and I’ll secure the next available month for you then send you the details. 😉

That’s it for another week.  Keep those tunes playing, your body swaying, and I’ll be boogieing over to see you soon.  Until next week, same place and time, have a sparkletastic day!  😉

Am looking forward to hearing Grace Vanderwaal. But Steps – oh dear, they were one of those bands that none of my friends would admit to listening to😂 Very bubble gum pop – a poor man’s ABBA (can’t beat the real thing – I adore ABBA!). I was never a Steps fan but, their tunes are annoyingly catchy.

I have no idea why I can’t comment on your last post but I wanted to write there that I used to listen to Aerosmith very often 💞

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Kinga,

I turned comments off on that post. It was just to serve as a reminder to anyone not knowing that I’m taking a semi-blogging break and that I wouldn’t be participating in Battle of the Bands. I’m sorry for the frustration but hopefully, you enjoyed the mewsic. Aerosmith is an awesome band!

  • angelswhisper2011

Unbelievable how much talent that girl has. Thanks for introducing her to us, CK. We enjoyed the Story of the heart, that was a great song too and that bear does remind me of Granny…whait a minute…remind?….MOL MOL 😀 Pawkisses for a swinging week ahead to all of you🐾😽💞

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Binky,

Thanks for taking a break from your lovely peaceful backyard to come boogie with me. Whew, can you believe it’s the very last day of July? I’m awed by young talent now and even when I was younger. Secretly I wanted to be like these kids, too. But…we all can’t do what the other purrson does and need to find the talents we have inside. Sometimes it takes longer for some than others. Have a boogietastic week, my little furriend!

Grace VanderWaal is going to hit big in the not-too-distant future. She’s already kind of a big deal anyway. So many great young musicians nowadays…

    • Cathy Kennedy

      John,

Miss VanderWaal is quite accomplished for one so young. She’s done more than some do in a lifetime. We all should follow our dreams. Who knows where they’ll take us! Thanks for joining me on the dance floor, ole pal!

  • DrillerAA

Thanks for the introduction to two new-to-me tunes. While I truly enjoyed both offerings, “Steps” is my favorite. Have a blessed week.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Driller,

Steps remind me so much of ABBA. I really dig their sound! Thanks for boogieing by and thanks again for a stand-up job as our July’s honorary co-host. 🙂

  • Cathy Keisha

Grace is really good. I hope fame doesn’t corrupt her. I’ve seen a few AGT contestants on my FB timelines and they’ve always been talented. AGT should have been included last week.

    • Cathy Kennedy

Yep single steps all the way. Anything more then you might find yourself literally down on the floor. lol Thanks for stopping in for a visit today!

  • Magical Mystical Mimi

Loved the glimpse into Grace’s life. I hope she continues on her path with much success. As soon as I heard Steps I thought Abba. Makes perfect sense now. Great tunes. Happy Monday!

  • XmasDolly

Wow, great pickin’s here I’d say. I really like Grace V. and her tunes. Such a young girl & so talented. I sure hope she doesn’t change and never loses her innocence. Great job girlfriend, but for tonite I shall say goodnight & see ya in the a.m. HUGS

  • Stacy Uncorked

Of course that’s one of the years I didn’t watch AGT – Grace is amazing! I love all the cool things she’s done since winning AGT! Not to mention that she was the opening act for one of mine and Princess Nagger’s favorite groups (Imagine Dragons). And to think – she’s only 2 years younger than Princess Nagger…too bad PN doesn’t believe she has a gorgeous voice (and has crippling anxiety, so no way would she want to perform in front of people). 🙂

Really enjoyed Steps – thanks for the introduction! Have a great week! 🙂

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Stacy,

I hope PN finds the confidence to believe in herself instead of waiting around allowing for years to get away from her. PN if you’re reading this, when your mother shared videos of you on her blog years ago, I would have never pegged you as someone with anything but high self-esteem who totally believed in herself. You’re an intelligent, funny, talented, and likable young lady. Sometimes, you have to meet life’s obstacles head-on to get over the hurdle to better things. Don’t wait until your 30-something (or older) to see all the potential you have, do something with it now. It seems like only yesterday I was a teenager, now 40+ year later I understand just how short life is truly.

  • Alana Mautone (@RamblinGarden)

I had never heard the Steps and when I listened to that song I heard ABBA all over it (thanks to one of your commenters, I know that story now). So..oh yes, I remember Grace VanderWall. I have to admit, sometimes when I hear a young person with great talent I so hope that they won’t be corrupted by the many bad influences that, sadly, seem to exist in the entertainment (and yes, other) industries. I’m happy Grace is working for Disney. She has her own style of singing and the ukulele makes her stand out.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Alana,

The first time I heard Steps, I immediately thought of ABBA. Grace is an amazing talent. I hope she keeps her sweet purrsonality always! Thanks for dancing with me!

  • Sandee

Never heard of her until today. Beautiful voice. Born in 2004. Goodness I’m old.

Love the bear and really love the words.

Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week, my friend. Love and hugs. ♥

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Sandee,

I hear you on the age thingy. It can make one feel her age. Thanks for including me in your Awww Mondays hop, my friend. You rock! 😘

  • Jacqui Murray

I’m like that too. I love to see where they ended up. I can’t believe the amazing talent I see (I also watch the Voice) could end up selling milkshakes at McDonalds.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Jacqui,

Usually, I stumble on mews such as with Grace. I often forget after these little starlets leave the show. I ought to stay more on top of these things. Hopefully, Grace will never having to flip burgers at McDonalds. She has a great start on something good.

  • Thomas Anderson

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy 4M Monday on Sunday, dear friend!

Thanks for introducing me to Amazing Grace V. Her story is remarkable. Her parents thought her interest in the ukulele was merely a childhood whim and refused to buy one for her, but she had a fire inside and found a way to buy her own. Soon she proved she had the talent and the desire to become a star. It was fascinating to follow her progress and watch her grow as she auditioned for America’s Got Talent, was accepted for the show in spite of her age, and ultimately won her season. Grace went on to make numerous “youngest” lists. Like you and I, Grace regards mewsic as an essential part of life, a “creative escape,” as she put it. I admire her philanthropy, giving back to the community and helping other young people develop their talents. Single handed, Grace has brought the uke back to mainstream popularity and “coolness” through her appearances and win on AGT, the release of her EP and album, and her live shows. Grace is now branching out to an acting career as the title character of Disney’s Stargirl. Hers is an inspiring success story! I enjoyed her song and video “Moonlight.” Grace shreds her vocals, utilizing “glottal fry,” the technique I have written about over the years, a slightly hoarse, raspy quality, cracks in her voice that convey passion and emotion.

As you know, I am a fan of the English dance-pop group Steps, having posted their hit cover of The Bee Gees’ song “Tragedy” a while back. As indicated in the video you showed us, the band had been together 20 years by the time they released “Story Of A Heart.” It’s a beautiful song and, if it sounds familiar, it has the ABBA touches you would expect to hear in a recording by that Swedish super group, because it was co-written by the male ABBA members Björn and Benny. The Steps cover was released on their 2017 album Tears on the Dancefloor. The song has maturity and the video was nicely handled, too. I love it!

Thank you very much for the morning mewsic, dear friend Cathy, and have a tunetastic Sunday!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Tom,

As talented as Miss Grace is I’m not sure why her parents didn’t want to purchase her the ukulele but I’m sure they had good reasons. Purrhaps, Grace paying for it herself might have been more of a driving force to make her want to learn how to play the ukulele. I’ve seen in our kids as well as others how giving them something they want didn’t always go as hoped with the easy handout. She’s a very sweet girl with a big heart. I hope she does well in the mewsic industry. I do remember you sharing Steps on your blog and I’m fairly sure it was your (re)introduction of this 80s band that hooked me on their ABBA-like vibes. Thanks for sharing the dance floor with me, my friend. Have a boogietastic week!
