Tickle Me Tuesdays

It’s Groundhog Day…Again!

Don’t mess with me, pork chop. What day is this?  This is just one of Bill Murray’s funny lines in the popular movie Groundhog Day.  The worse job possible to have today is that of Punxsutawney Phil.  You either love the chubby rodent or hate him depending on whether or not he sees his shadow.    The poor fella didn’t ask to be the weatherman yet the eyes of the world turn to the small western Pennsylvania town on this secondary day of February 2021 to see if we’ll have six more weeks of winter or six weeks until spring.  To quote Bill Murray from the movie Groundhog Day, “The question is does Phil feel luck?”

Saturday night we watched Groundhog Day on AMC.  This movie has become almost an annual event to see.  It’s truly a classic.  Everything about the film is perfect – location, script, acting, and music.  There are so many great lines in this movie and it never fails to make us laugh. We just love it!

I remember when I was a kid, I really though the groundhog really predicted if winter would stay with us a little longer or if we’d get spring sooner, not realizing the season change occurred six weeks regardless of what the groundhog sees its shadow or not.  What innocence!

Personally, I think the whole festival that takes place in Punxsutawney is delightful and I’d love to go to it…if it wasn’t for the cold weather.  lol  The history behind groundhog day is interesting if you care to learn more. I found a bit of interesting info at APNews to share with you.

Punxsutawney Phil may be the most famous groundhog seer but he’s certainly not the only one. There are two other high-profile “imposters,” as the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club calls them, in the region.

Staten Island Chuck will be asked for his prophesy Tuesday around 8 a.m. at the Staten Island Zoo in New York. That event will be streamed on Facebook since the zoo is closed.

Also without fanfare, Chuckles, Connecticut’s official state groundhog, will make a prediction from home: the Lutz Children’s Museum in Manchester.

Speaking of weather, yesterday ours was cold and snowy.  It didn’t amount to much just a dusting.  It’s still cold but no precipitation today.  Here in east Tennessee we’re on a weather roller coaster.  One day it’s cold, the next it feels like spring.  Things will warm up again for Thursday and Friday before another cold snap makes it way into our area.  Winter is definitely with us.  I’m really ready for spring!

It’s cold out this morning and I’m so happy that I don’t have to brave the weather.  It’s time to grab a cup of coffee.  I’m heading off to visit a few of my friends Comedy-Plus (Sandee) and Stacy Uncorked.    Wanna come with?

I’m taking one day at time in Blogosphere.  It seems I’m feeling a bit burned out.  This being said, I wanted you to tell you to not worry if you don’t see regular scheduled posts.  That’ll mean I’m just sitting it out for the day. Hopefully, I’ll get energized to bring you another a new edition of Wild Wednesdays – the party where just about anything goes.  Whatever you do or don’t see here, stay safe and be warm!  😉

Heeheehee! Since the weather prediction is supposed to be regional according to the legends, i wouldn’t worry too much unless you had a bright, sunny Tuesday. If so, winter is going to come roaring back after that little break.

    Thanks for the funnies!

      Mimi,

Oh sure, I know the prediction of winter is regional. I’ve felt for weeks that we’ll have more winter weather this year than usual as I look ahead at future predictions for area. Typically, our winters are fairly mild with a couple of weeks of really cold weather. I think it’s gonna be different this year, though. If it’s sunny then I don’t mind the cold too much. It helps to warm the house more efficiently and it makes being outdoors not nearly as awful.

Groundhog Day was marvelous, wasn’t it? That is my favorite holiday, you know… We combined Taco Tuesday night and made that the theme for our annual party.

Your comics here are fantastic… I love that movie.

      Myke,

You’re the first person to tell me Groundhog Day is their favorite holiday. lol Taco Tuesday…why Tuesdays? I can eat tacos anytime or Mexican food in general!

The Cute One and I watched the movie again last night. I hadn’t seen it in years, but it was a lot of fun to watch. I sure do get the ‘burning out’ feeling. I’ve been so busy lately that it’s hard to keep up. Sure am glad that I didn’t go through with those 2 additional themes this month. Oh.. and don’t worry, I’ve still got email notifications reminding me to visit everyone’s battle of the bands and 4M posts. Crossing my fingers I’ll get to those today… but first… I need to get my dishes done.

      Mary,

Busyness in life and blogging really can make one tired fast. Don’t worry about those themes. Just do them when you feel up to it and play along at your pace with the others. I totally get you!

Great movie! Haven’t seen it in several years, but I’ve got the DVD so I can watch it whenever I want.

I’ve felt cold here in L.A. of late. But it’s California cold and not eastern U.S. cold so I guess it’s really not all that cold. Still, to me it’s been cold.

      Lee,

We own Groundhog Day on DVD and Blu-ray but we streamed it this year. It’s easier and we don’t have to wear out our equipment unnecessarily. It does get cool in southern California, not cool as in east Tennessee cool but still not as pleasant as you’d like for winter. I remember a friend from work years ago followed her boyfriend to California. I can’t recall what part now but she sold a lot of stuff, including her winter coat. That’s when she learned that she needed it after all. After living out there less than six months she was ready to come home to east Tennessee and called me asking if she could get her job. I said, yes and that was that. 🙂

      Nicole,

Thanks for popping by before your trip. I hope all went well. A 3-hour trip one way is tiring. We make day trips to see my folks in Virginia which is about three and a half hours one way. It makes for a very long, tiring day but worth it in the end. Our day trip is for pleasure and that makes a huge difference, too.

I love that movie. Hubby and I need to watch it again. So fun.

Love all the funnies and love the video.

Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. Love and hugs, my friend. ♥

      Sandee,

That’s such a fun movie. On Groundhog Day night we watched the virtual recording from earlier that day at Gobblers Knob. We’ve seen this in the past, too. What fun! I told DH I’d like to go someday and he said maybe we can next year. That would be really cool to do but I’m a bit worried about the cold weather being a hindrance. I hate being cold! Another thing, the crowds have grown quite large for this thing so that would bother me, too. sigh Oh well…maybe my mind set will change between now and then. 🙂

      Brian,

The groundhog is sneaky but cute. I think the whole Groundhog Day fun in Punxsutawney PA sounds like a lot of fun. Who knows, maybe we’ll venture north one year to see it for ourselves!
