In the field with a #song to fit the mood

I did a quick fly throw my sketches.  The few illustrations  I found will look familiar to most of y’all and work well for this week’s art challenge, Crops & Farming.

Procreate illustration Harvesting pumpkins

Generally, I use images from the Internet to jump start my brain for Rain’s weekly prompts.  I really didn’t know where I wanted to go with this but wound up drawing this scene.

Clearing the field – This one will look good with color. I can’t wait to recreate it using Procreate!

I found some other examples that I really wanted to use after I finished doodling on today’s contribution. I’m fairly sure I won’t find any spare time needed to draw any more but an example like this Charles Freitag puzzle I found on Pinterest beckons me to try my hand at.

This reminds me of my late FIL as a farmer but he also loved to put together puzzles and this is probably one he would enjoy doing.
Here’s one of my scanned photos from 1995 of my late FIL on the tractor giving the kids a tractor ride in southern WV. It’s the first time for DS. They loved taking a rides to the gas well on their property which circles behind the garage you see just behind them and goes past their small vineyard beyond the two big trees in the foreground. You might even see a bit of the dirt road if you enlarge this photo when you click on it.

One thing for sure is if I get around to doing it, then I will share it with you.  Thanks for stopping in with your morning coffee for a peek at my latest illustration and …oh yeah, thanks for not spilling it on my artwork. 😉 I’m heading over to Rain’s Garden to browse through the gallery of artistry and you’re welcome to follow along!

Tomorrow is DH’s off Friday, so I won’t be MIA in Blogosphere. My blog home is always open to friends 24/7, though. I’ll be back with Songsational Sunday and if you’re on my cyber block stop in for some mewsic to enlighten your soul. Have doodletastic day! X💋X💋, Cathy

Some giggles to tie you over until next week!

  1. Hi Cathy :)!! I remember those sketches, I especially love the “Sickling Wheat”! Your “Clearing the Field” is really cool, I love the rake and the horse looks fabulous! She has a nice hat! 🙂 I love the photo of your late father in law…very nice. 🙂

  2. Oh, I am listening to Tim McGraw and chuckling at Maxine. I like her attitude 🙂 This was a good post Cathy … you covered a lot of ground. I have to ask, though, do the women on your farms wear skirts when they are sickling or raking? I think I would get all tangled up in a skirt doing that kind of work. Here it is jeans or overalls (as with your young lady with the pumpkins). Enjoy myself whenever I come over here. You are such a delight … maybe I will try to pop in to hear some of your Mewsic on Sunday if the day doesn’t escape me as so many of them to. Time flies when you get old … trust me. I know where of I speak 🙂

    1. Andrea,

No gals in this part of the country don’t wear long skirts but I do like the look of vintage pictures and paintings of women working in the field wearing them. If I were doing that kind of work then I’d be in jeans for sure. You’re always welcome to visit anytime. My blog is open 24/7 and usually I have new content waiting for my friends. 🙂

  3. Cathy this is a great post. I would be the girl in your first drawing, ya know out in the field with my corset and long skirt. LOL Your sketches are wonderful.

  4. You are so talented. I wish I was half as talented as you.

Love Maxine and I can so relate.

Have a fabulous day, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥

  5. O,Cathy, you have beautiful drawings and illustrations . Wonderful this thema to rains. Have a good week, greetings Elke

    1. Elke,

Rain’s themes are always interesting. The challenge to come up with something that suits my idea makes the process fun and I always enjoy what I draw. 🙂

  6. Hi Cathy, you have made some beautiful drawings and illustrations for Rain’s theme this week. Have a great week, take care, stay safe, Hugs, Valerie

    1. Valerie,

I wish I had more time to do at least one more original sketch. Maybe I’ll figure out how to do that in the future. Thanks for visiting, darlin’!

  7. Hi, Cathy!

Happy Rain Date Thursday, dear friend!

I thoroughly enjoyed your collection of artwork and pictures related to crops and farming. As I might have told you before, the first words I spoke as a baby were “farmer cut weeds.” At that moment I was riding in the family car and we were driving past a farm field where the farmer was using a machine to clear his land. I like the drawing of the young woman using a sickle at the edge of a wheat field. With that sharp implement in her hand, I wouldn’t want to upset her for any reason. 🙂 I especially like the color image of the girl straining to lift a heavy pumpkin. It’s a wonderful autumn scene! “Market Day” brings back happy memories of the sights, sounds and, in particular, the smells of going to the giant farmer’s market in York with my mother on Saturday mornings. I also look forward to seeing your nicely drawn sketch “Clearing the Field” return someday In Living Color. Thanks for sharing the pic of your FIL giving your kiddos a ride on a wagon pulled by his tractor. That one reminds me of my Uncle Johnny who used to take my father and me for rides through his apple orchard where we would have close encounters with his grazing cows.

Thank you for the uplifting artwork to start the day. Have a wonderful Thursday, dear friend Cathy!

    1. Tom,

Good afternoon! My days really slip away on me. When I was little I don’t think I was ever taken for a ride on a tractor or a hay ride. It wasn’t until after we married that I got to go on my first hay ride with our Sunday School class. Someone’s brother had a farm so a hayride and a bomb fire cookout was usually a fall outing. That’s when I discovered that I’m allergic to hay. It was a lot of fun, so I put up with the irritation for a several days afterward gladly. 🙂 Thanks for joining me today. Have a good weekend, my friend!
