Monday's Music Moves Me

Gratitude for family, faith, & friends

Welcome to Monday’s Mewsic Moves Me on Sunday!

Can you believe the calendar did its flippy thing again? Good grief, the days are disappearing on me and at this rate, I’ll be 110 next week!  A new month means a new honorary 4M co-host.  I’m happy to announce our spotlight dancer for November is, Cathy from Stunning Keisha!

I recall the days when the period between Halloween and Christmas seemed like forever.  I failed to appreciate the importance of the holiday celebrated at the end of this month – Thanksgiving.  That being said, this week’s theme is up for grabs with anything goes song picks and with the thankful season upon us, I thought I get an early start showing my gratitude through mewsic.  Are you ready to dance?

First on my playlist is Boyz II Men, Thank You.  In this R&B track, the artist offers gratitude to the supportive individuals in their lives. I’ve had plenty of people in my corner growing up encouraging me every step of the way like with my parents at the top with my grandparents, uncles, and aunts following at a close second but my biggest champion naturally is DH, You’re in My Heart forever, Sweetheart and my children who mean more to me than life itself, my heart swells with gratefulness and My Wish (Rascal Flats) has always been for a life filled with happiness and love. I’m thankful for the part that each of these plays in my life because without them, I wouldn’t be the purrson I am today.

In the past, I’ve mentioned that my grandpa was an old-time preacher and so is my daddy.  The thing I knew early on about is that God is awesome and amazing. It’s the story that Jesus Loves Me (Chris Tomlin) that forever strengthens my faith, showing me the way through the dark and always filling my heart with a deep appreciation for the sacrifice He made for me on the cross.

I’m eternally thankful for family and friends for their loyalty to Stand By Me (Ben E. King) no matter what I do or what I say with their I’ll Be There (Mariah Carey) for your attitude making our relationship a totally Happy Together (The Turtles) one.

What are you thankful for?

Please readthis is a mewsic linky party, which means all participates are sharing songs that one can listen to from YouTube or Vimeo and a not a post about mewsic or mewsicians.  Failure to meet this basic guideline puts your URL in danger of being removed or labeled – NO MUSIC.

It’s now time to join the 4M dance party!

ATTENTION!!! Would you like to be an honorary co-host? If so, shoot me an email or leave me a comment saying ‘YES, sign me up!’ and I’ll secure the next available month for you then send you the details. 😉

It’s interesting to think that you’re forgetting about Thanksgiving. In our family, Thanksgiving is THE holiday. Every year, we city hop among the siblings and have a grand feast with everyone, their kids, and now grandkids. We exchange holiday gifts during Thanksgiving because it’s more fun than sending a package through the mail! Happy Thanksgiving!

      Joyce,
No absolutely no I’m not forgetting Thanksgiving. In fact i said when I was a kid I failed to recognize it. That’s how kids do. As an early adult Thanksgiving was more meaningful and i am deeply grateful for family, friends, and all the many blessings of life. The way your family celebrates sounds delightful and in part we do something similar. Have a wonderful afternoon!

Excellent theme. This year it seemed like the Christmas season began October 1 with fake trees in all the stores. We grew up CATholic but our parents weren’t practicing and neither did I. I’m spiritual but not religious. Sorry I haven’t been joining the #4M gang. I only post once a week now but will participate this month for sure.

      Cathy,

Yep, you’re right the commercial Christmas season has begun. I was raised in a Christian home and am a child of the King but I don’t adhere to organized religion anymore because of man’s influence in the church, many of which have corrupted the pulpit with their ideas instead of taking leadership from the Lord. I prefer to march to the beat of my own drum and allowing God to whisper His direction in my ears instead of others trying to worm their way into my head.

No worries about not hitting the 4M dance floor. Sometimes ya gotta do what you have to do to make sense of your schedule and life in general. I’m just happy that you’re this month’s co-hostess. It’s sure to be a fun month with you at the helm. Thanks for dropping by to swing with me, girlie!

I was just listening to Boys II Men like 30 minutes ago before I read this post. But that was when they were pals with Bel Biv DeVoe and the New Edition crew. The song above is after they broke away away with New Edition, new jack swing, and got to do their own R&B. I love Motownphilly but I love their later stuff as well (well, mid-90s stuff).

As for being thankful, I am thankful for living everyday, my family, and my blogging friends. I am thankful for meeting you Cathy on your blog. I am thinking of doing a Thanksgiving playlist of songs to be thankful. Don’t know if it will make in time before the Xmas one.

I am grateful for many things – having survived to the age I am (something several of my friends never made it to), my health, my husband of 45 days, and the Internet. And I am grateful to you, Cathy, for keeping Music Moves Me going when Marie was going through her health issues earlier. I enjoyed your set so- from Mariah Carey’s incredible cover of I’ll Be There, to Happy Together of my youth, to Boys II Men’s wonderful song, and Ben E. King.

Good tunes! How cool our friend CK is co-hosting, she is the ultimate DJ Tune Spinning Kitty and rather famous on Twitter for her DJ pawties!

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy 4M Monday on Sunday, dear friend!

Mrs. Shady and I noted that Christmas commercials started popping up November first in the TV shows we watch. Let me be the first to wish you a happy Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year, Valentine’s Day and Easter! 🙂

I enjoyed your mewsic block, Cathy, along with the story telling that went along with the songs. A supportive family gives a child confidence, and having a loving and supportive spouse is key to a happy, healthy life. Knowing you have had these advantages throughout your life and that you and DH are “Happy Together” warms my heart. In the late 70s I owned Rod Stewart’s album Foot Loose & Fancy Free. It is loaded with excellent songs including the poetic ballad “You’re in My Heart (The Final Acclaim).” The lyrics stuck with me through the years and I often find myself playing the song in my head. The songs by Rascal Flats and Chris Tomlin are new to my ears. I enjoyed them. It was nice to hear the soulful 1961 hit “Stand By Me” by Drifters lead singer Ben E. King. That song was covered magnificently by John Lennon. The gem of the post is Mariah Carey’s thrilling cover of The Jackson 5 hit “I’ll Be There” performed along with R&B singer Trey Lorenz on the 1992 MTV Unplugged special. They took the song to the next level, the highest level. In my opinion, theirs is the definitive version.

As I told you earlier, I will be MIA from blogging the next couple of days because of eye surgery and folo-up exam. Thanks for the thoughts and encouragement. I’ll “see” you when I see you. 🙂

Thank you for a super set of songs, dear friend Cathy, and have a wonderful week!
