Thursday Art Date

Ghosts & Ghouls #art theme

I’m a little out of sorts today, mostly way behind in Blogosphere because yesterday I was MIA due to my annual colonoscopy.  This time around the doc did an endoscopy. The bottom line (pun totally intended) is the images looked good but he took few biopsies to keep close tabs on the area that shows sensitivity to my ailment.  I haven’t ever gotten an abnormal reading and don’t expect to see anything less than normal this time, too.

My throat is still incredibly dry from not being able to drink anything for so long prior to my procedure and I’m having some sort of allergy flare-up.  I want to blame it on the oxygen tube plastic smell.  I don’t like it but I suspect I am sensitive to it.  I’m sneezing a lot and my nose is dripping like crazy. This isn’t the first time for me to have this problem.  Last year when I had my ear tube surgery I experienced the same problems.  I hope this clears up today fast.  It kept me from sleeping well last night.

Alrighty, I’m excited to take part in Thursday Art Date with Rain.  That gal sure comes up with some cool themes.  This week we’re to illustrate Ghosts & Ghouls.

I used my iPad Procreate drawing app to create a scary scene for today’s theme. I call this sketch ‘The Lady in White’.

I’m not sure if my next sketch fits the theme but I was compelled to draw the Bride of Frankenstein after seeing Rain’s Frankenstein painting. Let’s just say, her portrayal is a whole lot better than mine. 🙂

I don’t think my Bride of Frankenstein is quite scary or crazy-looking enough but I gave it a shot anyhow. I’m content with my impurrfections for now and will try again another day. 😉

Alright, I made a few quick modifications to my Bride.  She’s still doesn’t have that look of terror in her eyes but I do think it’s better. What do you think?

Thanks for stopping in with your coffee for a peek at my masterpiece and …oh yeah for not spilling it on my artwork. 😉  It’s been a super pleasure to share my sprinkle of talent I have with you this morning. 😘 If you like to see what others are bringing to the art play date, then I invite you to high tail it over to Rain’s Garden to browse through the gallery of artistry!

      Sandy,

Is this your first visit? I ask this because I didn’t recognize your website and when I visited the posts are old ones. Do you have a new different blog home or have you just become a blog reader these days? 🙂 Whatever the reason, I’m thankful for your visit and appreciate your kind words. Have a good week!

Yuck to the colonoscopy. I have had 3 since it runs on my dad’s side and it’s the pre op that is always blecchhh. I’m glad that all seems aok. I like your ghost lady and there is an actual movie called The Lady I. white which is quite. Good film. I like your Bride and can see the improvements not only the shading but the eyes which does look better in the 2nd drawing.

I hope you get some rest Cathy, and feel better soon. Best wishes for good test results, also! Love the spooky sketches. 👌 The bride does look more frightened in the second one.

      Debbie,

I got a good night’s sleep last night but this stuff in my head left from the anesthesia is hanging on. The next time I go in for day surgery I’m going to grill them on this sort of thing as the sneezing and drippy nose are side-effects from the drug used according to Google.

      Christine,

Doubly thanks for the good wishes and compliments on my ghostly sketch. I’m not much into drawing spooky stuff so this was particularly fun to do. 🙂

Your drawings are excellent, CK, I think Dracula never had such a beautiful bride before. Will leave some Healing Pawkisses to feel better soon. Colonscopies and all the other internals are so terrible, so here’s an Extra Pawkiss for now🐾😽💞

      Binky,

I can certainly think of better ways to spend my day then having a colonoscopy. lol But, it’s not nearly as bad as it was 18 years ago. Thanks for the healing pawkisses, my little furriend!

      Janet,

Does screaming count as singing? That’s what I had in mind as I used a photo from an old B&W film showing the Bride with terror-filled eyes as I imagined a shrill scream erupting from her lips. But…then maybe my Bride is only singing. She’s not quite scary enough to strike terror in another’s heart for sure.

Sorry you’ve had a reaction to that plastic tube and I hope it clears up quickly. I have a like procedure every three years, but I’ve not had an issue with it.

    Love your sketches. You rock.

Have a fabulous day, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥

Hi Cathy 🙂 I LOVE YOUR LADY IN WHITE!!! And I love that ghost story too. The eerie black and white is awesome!! Your Bride is fetching! 🙂 I love how you made her look in the second piece – especially her eyes, it’s much spookier with her hair and the dark background. She looks quite happy though, singing up a storm for her monster-man! 😉

I’m glad your appointment is done…though having that allergic reaction is terrible. I’ve had 4 endoscopies before and I have to tell you, you are brave. I will never have one done again. I get way too panicky for that. I hope all is well with your health!

Thanks so much for joining in this week and for the linky! 🙂

Well, I think your Frankenstein bride is quite beautiful and eerie …. but perhaps a pair of fangs would make her more appealing to Frankenstein. Now that would be a marriage made in hell … Frankenstein and a Vampiress 🙂 Your ladies are always exceptional and impressive. You do have a talent! Enjoy your week … more spookies for the next few weeks :0

    Hi again, Cathy!

In my previous comment I forgot to wish you well as you recover from your uncomfortable procedure and await the findings. I pray the outcome will be in your favor. If you will forgive the pun, the worst is “behind” you. 🙂

I still have a brief window of time before we hit the road today, and so I wanted to let you know I saw your artwork. I’m glad I did. The stark, eerie scene called “The Lady in White” is a wonderful sketch. The lady seems to be aglow as she strolls zombielike in the moonlight. The composition makes brilliant use of light and dark. I also like your portrayal of The Bride of Frankenstein. I saw the 1935 film with Elsa Lanchester as “The Monster’s Mate” and your sketch looks just like her. I don’t think I’d want to kiss those red lips of hers any time soon. 🙂

I should be home at my desk tomorrow morning and I look forward to coming by for your Sillies. Have a wonderful day, dear friend Cathy!

      Tom,

Great pun! You know me, I love a good laugh. 🙂 I check the patient portal today and found out the biopsies came back normal, so yay!!!

The scary ladies were fun to draw. I might do another next week. I have a few ideas for Rain’s theme, now to find time to do some doodling. It’s going to be a bit hard with so much on my plate. I’m planning a brief blog break beginning next Friday. DH has some vacation time that he needs use, so we’re looking forward to a few day trips and other fun fall activities. Thanks for stopping by to check out my artwork, dear friend!
