Battle of the Bands,  Friday Sillies

#FS Christmas Edition featuring new year #humor & a #BoTB showdown

It’s the beginning of a brand new year and it’s the first of the month which brings me to my first Battle of the Bands for 2021. I’m saying goodbye to the old and hello to the new year with my song choice in a gals vs guys showdown.

There’s probably not a purrson on this planet who hasn’t heard this timeless tune. SecondHandSongs says there are more than 400 covers. Guy Lombardo and His Royal Canadians first recorded and released this song in 1939. I heard this many times on New Year’s Eve watching the ball drop in Time Square on broadcast TV.

For the gals, it’s new-to-me artists, The Gothard Sisters.

For the guy, is not new-to-me, Home Free!

Which artist do you like the best, The Gothard Sisters or Home Free? There’s no right or wrong response if you’ve exercised your right to vote then you did the right thing. 😉

Last year many of my BoTBers have dropped down to once per month participation but here’s the current roster of players.  I will try to figure out who’s doing what, when and update my list. 😉

Polls close at midnight (EST) Jan. 7th!

Thanks for letting your voice be heard. Check back next Friday to see if your favorite artists wins in this battle. Now, let’s resume our silliness with more Friday Sillies!

I don’t do new year resolutions anymore because let’s face it, who keeps those unrealistic plans anyhow?  These days I set reasonable goals and I don’t beat myself up if I fall short, I just keep pushing forward to try to cross each one off. If I’m blessed I’ll have another year to try to get right then I’ll start fresh again on January 1st. 😉

I’m MIA in Blogosphere but my bloggy friends are hosting some fabulous Friday fun. Please join the ladies (Ellen & Lorraine) hosting the Friendly-Fill, as well as these blogging communities: Feline Friday , Friendship Friday , & Skywatch Friday . Have a blessed New Year and a giggletastic day! X💋X💋, Cathy

Yesterday I found inspiration when visiting an artsy friend sharing her cold full moon painting with the Thursday Art Date with Rain community when I came up with this Procreate illustration to wish everyone a Happy New Year!

Oh I am voting for the Gothard sisters because I love the Celtic style they created to this well known song. The guys are really good but I give it to the gals. I also got a kick out of all the kitties doing their weird style including the twerking. Loving the funnies and the punch into the new year.

      Birgit,

Whew, I’m glad to see the Gothard Sisters get another vote. They sure are taking a beating this round. Initially I was allured to their Celtic style but I had no idea that they’d be this unevenly matched. As always I’m happy you stopped by not only for the mewsic but the giggles. 🙂

    Happy New Year, CAThy!

While I DID like the first recording, I gotta admit that HOME FREE is just too dang good for the competition in this Battle. That is some rich, smooth harmonizing! It’s like warm, honey’d whiskey or something along those lines.

It’s unfortunate that it is such a blowout, because the first group wasn’t bad at all, but you used another group that was just TOO good!

Anyway, I really enjoyed your Battle and I hope 2021 is good to you and yourn.

        Cynthia,

I agree Home Free is the better of the two in this showdown and usually I don’t like saying which artist I like the best. I need to do better in my next battle.

Happy New Year to you, Stephen!

I don’t know what I was smoking…wait, I don’t smoke. Maybe it was what I was drinking…nope, I don’t drink. I guess it was horrible off when I paired these two rivals together. Clearly they are not evenly matched. I went back to listen to the girls after seeing how they were getting pummeled by the boys and I don’t know why I decided to use them now. Home Free chalks up another vote!

I hope 2021 is good to you, my friend. God bless!

That is a beautiful creation you made for the New Year’s Cold Moon art!!! I love it! 🙂 You got the Moon highlights spot on, well done Cathy!!! 🙂 I love the funnies!!! 🙂 I probably missed your deadline, but Home-Free is my favourite! I love hearing men singing in harmony. The name of their band for some reason made me think of the song “Don’t Fence Me In”…now I have the version by Bing Crosby in my head lol…

      Rain,

I’m glad you liked this sketch for your art prompt and I appreciated your compliment. I’ve learned alot since doing your challenges. It’s great exercise for my creative side. I’m glad you decided to vote which you did not miss out on. HOME FREE gets another vote!

  • Kathe W.

It was a hard decision, but I finally decided on Home Free- I sure enjoy your post- have a great 2021 and may common sense soon return to our planet. Cheers!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Kathe,

Another vote for HOME FREE. Don’t go holding your breath for common sense’s return. I think it died along with the zillion of brain cells world wide.

  • Sandee

Home Free has my vote. These guys rock.

Love all the kitty funnies. I’ve always loved Garfield. I love snarky.

Thank you for joining the Feline Friday Blog Hop.

Have a purrfect Feline Friday and weekend.

    Happy New Year, Dear Cathy!

You just can’t go wrong with Home Free – although the girls did a decent job. Home Free has smooth as silk voices and that’s a quality that I enjoy (especially first thing in the morning). So my vote goes to Home Free.

I’ve rejoined the battles today. Stop by and have a look January Battle of the Bands

      Hey Mary,

HOME FREE is smooth as silk. They harmonize beautifully together, don’t they? I’ll be by your place to check out your first battle in a long time!

  • cwmartin13

I gotta go with Shady on this one. The girls didn’t get me to perk up until the instrumental close, and of course, I’m an old vocal group fan anyway. Laurie, however, gives a slight nod to the girls, so if you need to break a shutout later, you can cheat and count her vote (I know some people in the past have gotten bent about two votes on a comment.)

    • Cathy Kennedy

      CW,

Hey, I love it when a commenter gives two votes one for the author and the other for someone who’s listening alone. I’ll put you down for HOME FREE and for Laurie THE GOTHARD SISTERS. May God bless you and yours throughout 2021, my friend!

  • Thomas Anderson

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy New Year, BOTB Day and First Friday Sillies of 2021, dear friend!

It’s me… Shady “the shut-out spoiler”… 🙂 here dark and early on New Year’s Day taking advantage of early voting in your band battle. While I love female vocalists and appreciate the rendition of “Auld Lang Syne” performed by The Gothard Sisters, the singing sibs from Seattle, I couldn’t get into their Celtic version of the song as much as I had hoped. Somehow it was too precious to suit me. I prefer the straightforward simplicity of the version sung by Home Free, the all male a cappella quintet from the Twin Cities area of Minnesota. The men took turns on lead vocals and their voices blended together to produce rich harmony that won me over. I give my first vote of 2021 to Home Free.

OMG! First we had the singing dogs doing “Jingle Bells.” Now there’s Funny Cats doing their version of “Auld Lang Syne!” I got a kick out of the DJ kitties and the one going around in circles on the turntable. Mrs. Shady and I take care of a stray black cat. Last night when the neighbors started setting off firecrackers, he went missing for several hours. After midnight, when the noise died down, he reappeared from his hiding place. I was worried he had run away. It was nice to start 2021 with a happy ending.

Cathy, I wish you and your family all the best in the coming year – health, happiness, and plenty of occasions to smile, laugh, sing and dance. Bless you all, dear friend, and Happy New Year!!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Tom,

I was surprised that you went with HOME FREE knowing you generally prefer female vocalists. Thanks for giving me your honest opinion on which artist won you in this battle. Here’s to 2021 being one of healing and restoration for the whole world. Happy New Year, dear friend!
