Monday's Music Moves Me

It’s time to hit the dance floor with this week’s theme music trivia

Awww Mondays hosted by Sandee from Comedy Plus.

It’s a brand new year, a brand new month, and I am this month’s honorary co-hostess on Monday’s Mewsic Moves Me. For our first theme of 2021 is  Mewsic Trivia – give us some mewsic trivia about a particular song and then share it with us.

Here are my trivia questions in song order on my playlist

  1. Who penned the 1986 Bangles’ hit “Manic Monday”?
  2. Which double name band in 1985 gave us the song “Broken Wings”
  3. Which American Rock n’ Roll artists caused controversy when he married a very young teenager?
  4. What place is thought to be where the banjo originated?
  5. What is called the two or more than two melodies or pitches sounding at the same time?

  1. The Bangles #1 hit “Manic Monday” was written by the late Prince under the pseudonym “Christopher” and was originally intended for the group Apollonia 6 in 1984.  According to Wiki, Prince gave the song to Bangles rhythm guitarist Susanna Hoffs, in hopes of winning her affection.
  2. American pop rock band, Mr. Mister, peaked #1 in the Billboard Hot 100 charts with “Broken Wings” that stirs sad feelings for some reason from my past.  I’m not sure why but
  3. It blew my socks off to read that Jerry Lee Lewis that his 3rd wife was his 13 year old cousin. That sounds really crazy and it’s something most parents today would not allow but I think for that era it was a common thing not to mention many girls that young were often mentally prepared. Naturally it doesn’t change the fact they were still little girl. Their new roles forced them to grow up even faster than the times they lived in already placed on them. Loretta Lynn married at the age of 13.
  4. Early documentation (1678) revealed African slaves created  banjo-like instruments from their part of Africa. The banjo became popular in the United States during the Revolutionary war and the rest is history. John Hartford on the banjo accompanies Glen Campbell in “Gentle On My Mind”.
  5. The answer is harmony.  Harmonizing is one of my favorite sounds produced by artists. Eagles’ band members pitch perfect vocal blending in “Seven Bridges Road” is an excellent of the way harmonizing should sound. Check out these Top 10 music groups with the best harmonizes!

Today’s playlist was inspired by this trivia source.

This is a mewsic linky party. Every other week we have a suggested mewsic theme (see side menu) to build your song set around and all participants share YouTube or Vimeo videos for our mewsic enthusiasts.  Failure to meet this basic guideline puts your URL in danger of being removed or labeled – NO MUSIC.

Ever since October my blogging life has been off key. I took three blogging hiatus to enjoy staycations with DH and it’s kind of gotten me off track.  I don’t regret that one bit but planning and composing new content for CAAC suffered. This means I need to put things into warp drive to get future posts done so I won’t freak out.  Yeah, I tend to do that sometimes. Okay, I will do my best to not stress but go with the flow.  That sounds a bit like a new year resolution.  Before I zip off, in case you missed it I put up my first BoTB for new year last Friday and I hope you’ll take a moment to cast your vote in my first 2021 showdown. That’s a wrap for now. Have a boogietastic week!  X💋X💋, Cathy

I knew #2 and #3 but not the others (yeah, even “melody”). What a stir the Jerry Lee Lewis situation created; I was rather young to know what was going on. All very nice to hear again, especially Broken Wings and Seven Bridges Road.

Happy New Year, Cathy. ☺ Thanks for sharing those fascinating factoids. I had no idea Prince wrote Manic Monday but knew about Jerry Lee Lewis. BTW, January 4 is Trivia Day so, perfect timing. Do you have a second blog on the go? Must check out that entry listed at #8. Cheers!

      Marie,

      I’m sorry to hear about your loss. Don’t worry about it, darlin’! I wasn’t around yesterday, either. DH had the day off but I’m back in action this morning. Take care! {{hugs}}

You gotta watch your nip doses, don’t you? Love Crabby Road and Maxine.

Years ago, i saw an interview with Jerry Lee Lewis’ cousin who had married him. Turns out her parents had no idea, he took another, older friend in to sign and get the marriage license.

Interesting questions and answers. I had guessed Elvis for #3 because I thought Priscilla was quite young when they married.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Ellen,

I knew Priscilla was young when she married Elvis but I had forgotten that she was only 14. There’s a big difference in a girl from early to late teens. Looking back at my own marriage at 17, I had room still to grow mentally but we both grew together nicely. It could’ve gone differently as I heard happened in friends who were the same age and married the same year as I did. My mother was just 15 when she got married.

Fun trivia! I know what you mean about getting back on track. I took a ‘mental’ hiatus this past month I think. And now, I’m working hard to get caught up and ahead on my posts again. To add insult to injury, I’m having trouble embedding playlists. I can do individual videos, but for some reason YouTube refuses to give me the code for playlist. Oh well.. I just means fewer tunes each week – maybe that will also help me out in the long run. Don’t forget to stop by on Wednesday for the start of Weekly Song Challenge! It’s going to be fun!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Mary,

The work around for YouTube when I do playlist is to right click on the first video in my set and select “Copy Embedded Code”, then paste it into WordPress, then adjust the width and height. Do you know how do that? If not, let me know and I’m happy to help. I’ll try to remember to stop by your place on Wednesday to check out your newest challenge. Sounds interesting!

Hey, who’s the keeper of the themes now that Marie has moved? I checked all y’all’s sites and couldn’t find the list, so I just did a freebie and let it go at that. But let me know where the themes are, wouldja? Thanks!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      John,
At the top of my blog above my image header you’ll see my 4M Themes Page. There’s a drop down menu now by year. Also in my side menu if you click the 4M image (two girl dancing) then it’ll take you the 2021 4M page. Sorry for the confusion, dear friend?

    • Cathy Kennedy

      John,

I replied to your message last night using my WordPress app but for some reason it’s not showing here. sigh Anyway you’ll find the 4M themes at the top of my blog just above my header image. I now have the themes separated by year and there’s a drop down menu or click here to go straight to it. Another way to find them is to click on the 4M button (girls dancing) in my side menu. It’ll take you straight to the same theme page. I’m sorry for the confusion. Thanks for playing along!

Awww on the kitties. So cute. Looks like they partied hard to bring in the new year.

Love the video. Liked it when it came out and like it still.

Maxine is so spot on. On everything. I love her.

Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week. Love and hugs. ♥

I love that song Manic Monday and had no idea Prince wrote it. I knew Jerry Lee Lewis married his young cousin. There was even a movie made about this and, I think, Winona Ryder starred in this and maybeDennis Quaid..I have to look this up. I will now check out your BOTB.

  • Thomas Anderson

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy First Awww-some 4M Monday of the year, dear friend! I hope you and DH are well and in good spirits as we swing into 2021.

I can’t decide whether that ginger kitten is trying to shake his gray buddy awake, or if the gray one simply loves having his tummy rubbed. 🙂 I also got a chuckle out of the Maxine cartoon.

This is a tunetastic set of songs, and I enjoyed taking the trivia quiz prior to listening. I answered all of the questions except #4 about the origin of the banjo. I think I told you before that my dad played the banjo. In the 1920s and 30s, he was a member of a York-based banjo band. As a boy, I discovered his old banjo in the attic of our house and occasionally went up there to practice strumming it.

In recent years I have become a huge fan of Susanna Hoffs aand The Bangles, and “Manic Monday” is one of my favorites by the girl band. Heavens to Betsy, Susanna turns age 62 a couple of weeks from now! I knew the Phoenix-based pop new wave group Mr. Mister because they were popular on the MTV station where I worked in the 80s. As you might recall, I presented a nice cover of “Broken Wings” at Shady’s Place when Chris Griffin introduced the British one-man-band Wings of Pegasus. It was indeed scandalous that “The Killer” – Jerry Lee Lewis – married his 13 your old cousin. As you pointed out, it was a much more common practice in those days for girls in their early and mid teens to wed, often taking much older men as husbands. Gosh, I had completely forgotten about John Hartford. The folk, country, and bluegrass artist who played fiddle and banjo was a big name in the late 60s. Sadly he died young at age 63 way back in 2001.

I thoroughly enjoyed these tunes, dear friend Cathy, and I wish you a happy week as we plow full speed ahead into 2021!

      Good morning, Tom!

I’m back ready to go this morning after a very nice long holiday weekend! Maybe the ginger kitty likes getting a tummy rub but doesn’t want to let on to his buddy. I’m not sure if you told me that your dad played banjo. You could’ve and I forgot. I do that a lot anymore it seems. My daddy picked a little on a banjo when I was a kid. I had to freshen my memory on the “Broken Wings” cover you shared and yes I do remember. I figured you’d know most if not all of the answers to my trivia questions. Jerry was 22 when he married his 13 year old cousin. That is young but I got to thinking, my mom was 15 and my daddy was 21 when they married. There is a big difference in a young girls’ mentality from 13 to 15 but still in that era youngsters had more responsibilities on heaved on them and were more apt to handle the role change. Although I was a child bride at 17, it’s still hard to fathom a 13 year old marrying. Thanks for stopping in to take the mewsic challenge and earning an A+!
