Friday Face Off (FFO)

Friday Face Off (FFO)

I sketched this for DH for Valentine’s Day.  I took the liberty to crop the original drawing for today’s FFO contribution. I don’t know how often I can participate with the weekly community but Nicole has been such a sweetie to invite me that I knew when I finished this piece that I should  share it with her.  I have miles to go before I’m a tenth as good as she is with portraits.  Nicole draws very realistic looking people.  Mine I suppose are more like pop art.  I accept my limitations as I pursue learning how to make improvements as I go. It’s a continuous process but one that I enjoy very much!

Instead of knocking myself out with two art posts, I simply decided to showcase my TAD drawing today because it works for the FFO challenge. Rain’s prompt was lips.  The one above definitely works but my first thought was “Hot Lips” as in Major Houlihan from the hit TV series M*A*S*H. I’m not good with drawing exact likenesses, so I thought I tried do a caricature of Loretta Swit and here’s my attempt.

Ha-Ha! I just noticed how wonky my drawing turned out. I definitely need to rework her mouth alignment with her eyes. Oh boy, as I said this is all a learning process!

There you have it, two art pieces for the price of one!   I’ll be back next time with Monday’s Music Moves Me and if you like music then I’d love to have you join the party with whatever music moves you! Have a doodletastic weekend! XOXO Cathy

Hmmmm …. I would like to see what you cropped out of your first picture and I second Rain’s motion that she is one lovely women with very kissable lips (I assume that was your intention given who you drew it for :). And I think it is fitting that Major Houlihan is a bit “wonky” given that her character was, indeed, a bit wonky. That said, the likeness is excellent and I would have guess who she was without your telling me.
I do love music and would love to participate in your Monday Music Blog, but, as you can see, I am still trying to write comments on last Thursdays Tadd … It doesn’t seem fair to participate and then not leave comments, so I just don’t participate … which is a sad excuse, I know. But one of these days, I will surprise you and show up with some awesome music. My FH and I listen to groups on You-Tube every night while we eat dinner and have found some awesome talent that isn’t well known … yet 🙂 Anyway, fingers crossed that I will be able to join you some Monday night 🙂 Stay as much fun as you are, Cathy … I always look forward to your posts.

Your drawings are fun, Cathy. And your attitude is inspiring: “I accept my limitations as I pursue learning how to make improvements as I go.” Have a great week!

Oo-what sweet faces. They are such different women too. I don’t know if they’d get along if they could really meet, but I hope they’d be friends or sisters. hugs-Erika

The first one is great! And your caricature of Major Houlihan (Loretta Swit) works as a caricature. You chose her most distinguishing characteristic (her lips) and exaggerated it. Excellent!

Thank you, John! I’m glad my attempt to capture “Hot Lips” worked. I always feel so uneasy to put my work out there but I’m learning to let go of my hang ups. Art is subjective, some will love it and some won’t. The thing is I had fun doing it! 🙂

Hot Lips is great! She does have a wide mouth so u think you captured her perfectly. She’s one of my favourite characters from this brilliant show. Love the other one that is a perfect pin up. The music is great

OMGosh! I love your art so much and I agree hit 2 birds with one stone and combine TADD with FFO. I love how your created the lips and smiles. Thank you for sharing with FFO and have a wonderful weekend.

You’re so kind, Nicole. Thanks for praising my work. I almost didn’t include my caricature but then I thought, “Why not?” I can’t learn if I don’t share and that’s really when I see flaws in my work but I learn from it. 🙂
