For Your Eyes Only BoTB Showdown

Welcome to BOTB round 15!  The 12th James Bond flick is For Your Eyes Only and the fifth to star Sir Roger Moore as 007.  Sheena Easton performed the 1981 theme song.  I remember absolutely falling in love with her voice, just beautiful!  There weren’t a lot of English vocal covers listed on my go-to site that I was interested in which left me to scroll through the possibilities on YouTube and that wasn’t much better.  In the end, I found two female singers with a similar style as Sheena and decided to put these ladies in a face off.

The first contender is Suzanne O’Donnell.  I really don’t know much about this singer, other than she enjoys uploading her cover songs to YouTube.  Listen to see if Suzanne gets your vote!

The second contender is Sabine Heil, a German singer.  Although, she has a web presence I found limited info but it seems she is a recorded artist.  Kindly, listen to Sabine now to see if you prefer her over the previous artist!

You don’t have to be a James Bond fan or even know who Sheena Easton is or familiar with the For Your Eyes Only. All you need is your two ears and opinion to tell me which singer you like. There’s no wrong way to vote, except a no-vote. It’s that simple!

Just tell me in comments, who gets your vote, Suzanne or Sabine, and if you want you can go into little or great detail as to why you picked your artist.

You may find these bloggers featuring a battle showdown today.

*Unless noted participants are doing both battles on the 1st and 15th.

Polls close noon (EST) on Nov. 7th

If you like Sheena Easton, then you may want to check out the music I shared on the dance floor yesterday.  The results for this battle will be delayed since I’m on vacation but certainly are forthcoming. Next up on CAAC is Monday’s Music Moves Me on Sunday where we’ll be boogieing to songs written or recorded by November born artists. Come join the party!  X💋X💋, Cathy

I didn’t care for Suzanne’s vocals. Sabine sounded much better and I also preferred the musical arrangement of her version. It’s Sabine, for me! 🙂

Howdy, CAThy, my friend! It’s That You!

A pretty easy cherce for me in this round: I did not particularly like Suzanne O’Donnell’s voice. Meanwhile, SABINE HEIL has plenty o’ power and provides more dynamic vocal shifts during the song.

I first listened to these recordings yesterday, before you had more than two votes in, and I was afraid you were going to have a shutout here. Because I knew my bote was going to be another no-brainer cherce for Sabine. But I’m glad to see you’re already past any shutout possibility.

    Have a Wonderful Day, CAThy!

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy Monday, happy November and happy BOTB day, dear friend! I hope you, DH and your little angel, LA, had a safe and fun-filled Halloween.

You found two worthy covers of Sheena Easton’s “For Your Eyes Only.” I went to YouTube and looked over Suzanne O’Donnell’s uploads. She covers Barbra Streisand, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, The Carpenters, Bette Midler, Carrie Underwood and other female artists in the pop and nu-country genres. She has a lovely voice and I thoroughly enjoyed her cover of this hit Bond song. Next, I went to Sabine Heil’s channel where I found many German language songs plus English language covers of Whitney, Bing Crosby, Billie Holiday and others, including another sensational Bond cover – “Goldfinger.” If Sabine wins your battle, and she gets my vote, then you might want to consider posting her “Goldfinger” cover as the bonus song because it impressed the heck out of me. I feel the same about her cover in your band battle. Es ist wunderbar! Although Suzanne O executes a more than capable cover, Sabine’s vocals pack more refined power and more drama, which is what I have come to expect from covers of Bond movie themes. I like Sabine’s diction, the way she finishes off the last syllable of a line. Sabine’s vocal instrument is marvelous, and so is the arrangement on her recording. It is more “Bondish” than the arrangement on Suzanne’s version. Therefore, once again, I give my vote to German artist Sabine Heil.

Have a happy and restful week, dear friend Cathy!
