Friday Sillies

Football #humor + Friendly Fill-ins

Hello, Kittens & dawgs! Another work week bites the dust and this is DH’s off-day. After more than a month of suffering from a muffled, drainy ear I’m going to the doctor. Hopefully, the healing will begin soon. Let’s get the weekend party started with this week’s dose of giggles on Football Humor.

Do you like football? Will you watch the Super Bowl? Which team will cheer for? What is your all-time favorite Super Bowl commercial?

Let’s continue the fun with Friendly Fill-Ins with Annie and Ellen. Every Thursday four fun and easy blank statements are posted for us to borrow, complete, and share on our site. The point is to simply have fun linking, reading, and meeting others who enjoy this sort of thing.

Here’s my response to this week’s fill-ins:

  1. My middle name is Lynn and if I heard my mom yell, “Cathy Lynn!” I was in real trouble and if she went a step further by adding our sir name then I was in deep trouble.
  2. Happy surprises.
  3. The Super Bowl is an event I look forward to sharing with DH every year. We have a little Super Bowl party just the two of us and I get crazy cheering on my favorite team.
  4. My favourite sport is football to watch but for participating in it is tennis.

I adjusted my Friday posts rolling Skywatch Friday and Celebrate the Small Things in one post for Thursdays.  What do you think of this format? Do you like the way I split things?

Let’s begin celebrating with Friendship Friday and Friday Features linky parties where you’re sure to make new friends and get lots of inspiration!

That’s a wrap for now, but if you like mewsic then I invite you to come back for Monday Mewsic Moves Me. Until next time, have a fototastic weekend!

I love the fun here. I am still trying to get over this lung issue. I am miserable. I hope to get back to normal soon, health and blogging. Thanks for joining us each week. You rock. HUGS!

The comics are very funny-love the last one and my one friend can relate to it. Love the ad with Willem Dafoe in a dress-hahahaaa. I have never watched the superbowl nor ever plan to and thankfully, neither does my hubby. The only thing I will want to hear about is how it went with Lady Ga Ga (or as my mom calls her, Lady Ca-Ca). I also will look forward to seeing the commercials afterwards. Now if it was something about film or art, then i would be watching it:)

    Hi, Cathy!

I’m here for your Friday Sillies, this edition dedicated to the upcoming Super Bowl. I enjoyed the cartoon with the football playing penguins and the one with the shocked divorce court judge. This was the first time I watched the new Snickers commercial that will run during Sunday’s Super Bowl telecast. Leather faced Willem Dafoe is a riot in a white dress playing a hungry and grouchy Marilyn Monroe in the iconic scene from The Seven Year Itch. The spot was created by BBDO New York, a shop that Mrs. Shady and I frequently called on during our years as executive advertising recruiters.

For decades I was a football fanatic, beginning in the 50s when I used to watch Baltimore Colts games. During my college years I never missed a Penn State game and developed a love for the Pittsburgh Steelers that lasted through my 20s and 30. When I met Mrs. Shady and realized she hates football it was a major blow, but I adjusted over the years and no longer feel the need to watch the sport. I am rooting for the Falcons in the big game because the Pats have had more than enough glory in recent years. My favorite sport to watch and to play has always been basketball.

I am sure the doctor will get your ear fixed up and that you will be feeling much better soon. I hope so anyway. Have a super weekend, dear friend Cathy!

      Tom,

The penguin cartoon made me think of my SIL. He loves penguins. I’m gonna have to pass that one on to him. The divorce court comic was great! I shared that one with DH and he got a hoot out of it. I told him he didn’t have to worry with about me hiding the remote during Super Bowl. 🙂 The Snickers’ commercials supposedly was from year’s event. I’m surprised you haven’t seen it before now. It gets played every now and then, which is one of my favorite Snicker’s spot. Williem Defoe is great as an ugly, grumpy Marilyn Monroe in the iconic Seven Year Itch movie scene. You know, I’m not sure if I’ve seen that movie or not. Hmmm, I’m gonna have to check into that. That’s interesting, what does an executive ad recruiter do? It sounds like someone who hires marketing specialists but what do I know. 🙂 The Pittsburgh Steelers was DH’s favorite team in the 70s and 80s. He still has a great fondness for them and we rooted for them to make it but they had too many injuries to beat the opponents. Tom Brady and the NE Patriots are a fabulous team. I won’t cry if they win the Super Bowl but chances are good I’ll be rooting for the Falcons because they are the underdog and this is the first time since the late 90s that they played at the Super Bowl. I liked going to basketball games in school but watching it on TV I never got into. I always enjoyed shooting hoops with DH and kids when they were at home. I really miss the fun! My general practitioner said I had an inner eye infection and he put me on Amoxicillin for a week. He asked to see me in a week and I told him lets’ play it by “ear”. lol I’m thankful I got out of doctor’s office paying less than $100 for my visit and the script was super cheap. Now, let’s hope the medicine works! Thanks for stopping by for a visit and I’ll be over to see you soon. Have a good weekend!

        Hi again, Cathy!

I am confident the Amoxicillin will clear up your symptoms and have you feeling better in a day or two.

In the 1990s and early 2000s, Mrs. S and I had our own recruiting business with a small support staff. We worked with advertising agencies coast to coast, helping them fill positions in the “creative disciplines” – copywriters, art directors, creative directors, designers and broadcast producers. One client I worked with was already making a salary of $850,000 per year and he insisted that I find him a million dollar a year job – a tall order and one that I was unable to fill. 🙂

I went to college at Penn State the same years that Franco Harris and Jack Ham played for the Nittany Lions. As DH will tell you, both star athletes went on to play for the Steelers during that team’s glory years.

Have a wonderful weekend and feel better soon, dear friend Cathy!

        • Cathy Kennedy

Lee, Thanks for explaining to me what your recruiting business entailed. Gee that one client was asking for a lot! Of course, if he/she was used to that kinda salary then bravo. Too bad you couldn’t put that feather in your cap, though. I remember Franco Harris by name but I’m not sure if I recall him playing. DH remembers both and he asked me to ask you if you knew these fellars? We saw a few of the Pittsburg Steelers in the early 80s (Franco Harris, Jack Ham, and Mean Joe Green) with Harold Cosell at West Town Mall. We wanted to meet them, but the line was crazy long and we didn’t have time. Have a good weekend and I’ll be seeing you around next week!

        • Thomas Anderson

I watched Franco and Jack play in their games at Beaver Stadium but didn’t have classes with them or know them personally. However, I remember passing Franco one day as I walked across campus on my way to class and saying “hi” to him. That was my only “brush with greatness.” 🙂

I don’t like football and don’t think I’ve ever watched an entire Super Bowl game much less many actual football games. Most of my family are fans though. My wife doesn’t care about it so she never watches either. I usually tune in now and then during the Super Bowl to check the score and see some commercials and often I’ll watch the half-time show. Lady Gaga? I’m not sure about that. Maybe. Maybe not.

Lee, I always liked football, especially when I was in school. After I got married watching pro football was just so-so with me. I watched bits and pieces with DH but it didn’t click with me until many years later. Now, I love watching the sport with him and get right in there hooping and hollowing for my favorite. Someone’s gotta do that job because DH doesn’t get too worked up watching the games. It’s funny how low key he is and yet I know he’s enjoying it, you know? I do not contain my enthusiasm. The good thing is he likes that I show my spirit for the game. Super Bowl commercials haven’t been super good in a long time. They have maybe one or two that are suitable but most are just silliness or embarrassingly stupid. Yeah, I hear ya about Lady Gaga. I’m not sure if I’ll watch the half-time show or not. She’s so strange! Thanks for dropping by today. I’ll be over soon to see you. Have a good weekend!
