Got laughs? Share your giggles!

Let’s continue the fun with Friendly Fill-Ins with hostess: McGuffy Ann and Ellen. Every Thursday, she posts four fun and easy blank statements for us to borrow, complete, and post on our site. The point is to simply have fun linking, reading, and meeting others who enjoy this sort of thing.

Here’s my response to this week’s fill-ins:

  1. When I run out of dinner napkins, I use folded paper towels instead. (This actually works better and is more economical)
folding paper napkins
This is actually an illustration of how to fold napkins. You can see the steps, here. I don’t do anything fancy with mine. All that matters is that it does the job of wiping my chin off. 🙂
  1. My guru is Jesus Christ and His disciples. These teachings were handed down in God’s word which were handed to me through my grandparents, parents, and in-laws. Their examples of good moral and spiritual living are the principles that’s made my life better.

  1. I am afraid of heights and deep water that’s why you’ll never find me on an airplane or boat.
Fear-of-Heights-Phobia-Acrophobia
This is a total mockery of my fears. You’d never catch me out there. Are you kiddin’ me? Oh look, there’s some deep water, too! Both symbols of my fear in one picture.
  1. I feel empowered when I cross things off my to-do or goals set lists; when I see my accomplishments reached it gives me a “I’m in control” and that makes me feel good.

I’m joining Lexa in Celebrate The Small Things. Here’s my list of celebrations!

I’m celebrating a decision we made to forgive someone’s debt owed to us by letting them know that they do not need to repay us. I wish we had done this sooner, but life is a work in progress thing and sometimes late is better than not at all. We feel good having done it and hopefully this act is appreciated on the end.

What are you celebrating?

See what others are celebrating this week below and if you want to join the linky, then visit Lexa for details on how to sign up.

To continue the Friday fun, you may want to consider joining Friendship Friday and Friday Features linky parties where you’re sure to make new friends and get lots of inspiration!

The weekend is just starting, so I invite y’all to hop back tomorrow for some mewsic with Saturday Songsuasion!

Have a super funtastic Friday! ?

Great post, as always. I always read the fill-ins on Friday and then get back to them to comment. Weekends are so hectic right now, but will settle down as we get into Fall. I am struggling with some health issues right now. Thank you for participating in the Friendly Fill-Ins. We appreciate your participation. Hugs.

Annie, thanks for popping by my friend. I understand about hectic weekends. Mine are exactly the same and this week has been equally so. I’m sorry to hear of your health problems. I will keep you in prayer. Hopefully, you’ll feel more like yourself again before long. Take it easy and NEVER stress with getting over here for a visit. I totally get it. Be well, dearie. Hugs back at ya!

Love the popcorn sun one-:) I am also very scared of heights so that picture frightens me and I am sitting in my chair! When that guy gets up he could slip on a pebble and then down he goes!

    • Cathy Kennedy

Birgit, Speaking of danger and heights, there have been a number of incidents in the news where people mistaken how close they are to the edge and a slip of the foot sends them to their death. Another thing that’s caught my attention in the news is the new rage for getting selfies in dangerous places that results in people losing their lives. That’s just craziness! Anywho, I don’t wanna have any part of such stupidity! Thanks for visiting. I’ll be by to see you in just a few! 😉

Just popping in briefly while I have Wifi access during our vacation – and so glad I did because those funnies were a great way to start the day!! LOL
You are truly living via Jesus teachings when you forgive a debt! It’s an incredible way to live His example. And what a world it would be if we all did that.

    • Cathy Kennedy

Les, so happy you popped in for a few grins. We just realized it’s not only best for us, but for the party who owes money to not be saddled with the worries. I won’t lie to you. It would be nice to have the money back, but I know God will provide for us. I’m very glad we finally reconciled this difference in our hearts and are now at peace. Enjoy your vacation time, my friend!

    • Cathy Kennedy

I believe a lot of people share the same fear of heights. I remember when I was kid my daddy was on the roof doing some repairs and I had the bright idea of climbing up there to see what he was doing. Going up wasn’t so bad, but when I needed to come back down my head became all swimmy like and I was so afraid I would miss my footing. After that I tried to avoid high places. Thanks for visiting, Kisma!

  • lexacain

I’m a bit afraid of water and don’t go on boat rides either. I hate flying, but sometimes that’s the only way to get somewhere. Actually I’m not a fan of car or bus travel … or travel at all. LOL! I agree completely with you about empowerment! It was very kind of you to forgive the debt. I hope your kindness comes back to you in the future. Have a lovely weekend! 🙂

(I love David’s Dear Abby story. So funny! )

  • David E. McClendon Sr.

I am not a big fan of heights either. Napkins, just wipe you hands on the dog. He won’t mind.

      • David E. McClendon Sr.

I once read in either Dear Abby or Ann Landers about a woman who had a friend who always showed up at supper time. The woman finally thought she needed to put a stop to these “well timed”visits so, one time, right after they ate, she put the plates down in the floor for the dog to lick clean. She then placed the plates in the cabinet without washing or rinsing them. The friend never came by at supper time again. She said she washed everything in the cabinet again soon.

We use paper towels for napkins most of the time, they are always close at hand and are most absorbent than inexpensive napkins. I am certain my mother would not approve! 🙂 I see we share the same guru, and I think we have it right! I share your fear of heights! I can and do fly but mountain roads terrify me and you would not get me within 100 feet of that scenic overlook, definite No! It is empowering to check things off your To Do List, and in energizes you to start the next thing!

I love your “Celebrate the Small Things” item for this week, it feels good to help someone else out. I hope they appreciated your act of kindness, but either way your heart will be happy!

    • Cathy Kennedy

Josie, you’re right paper towels are more absorbent than napkins without the added cost. Oh, I doubt any of the women who properly set a table from those earlier eras would approve of paper anything or even having your dinner in front of the TV. That’s what we do allt he time. lol Oh definitely the big J.C. is the main guru of gurus. He rocks my world! You said exactly the way it makes me feel to check things off my list – energized! It does feel nice to help someone and yes they appreciated having their debt cleared with us. Thanks for visiting. I’ll be by your place soon!

  • Suzanne Gunter McClendon

I think that it feels great to get things marked off of the to do list, too. That isn’t happening too often here lately thanks to several days of thunderstorms.

I am not afraid of heights but I am afraid of falling and hitting bottom. I could never sit on that ledge like that, or even approach it.

It is great to have had grandparents and others around to instill the love of Christ in us. You and I have been truly blessed. 🙂

    Have a blessed weekend, Cathy!

    • Cathy Kennedy

Suzanne, we’re experiencing stormy weather most of this week. It’s cloudy today with the chance of thunderstorms in the early evening. We hope to get outdoors to resume some of our yard work. I can’t go near railing of high places because I get really dizzy headed, so I always keep my distance from the edges of things and I could NEVER sit on the ledge like this person is doing in the photo. I’d sit down and be too scared to move. I’m thankful for the Christian influence in my life. Those principles helped to shape my moral compass and convictions.

      • Suzanne Gunter McClendon

We’ve had storms for days now and the pressure is giving me a horrendous headache. It feels like a hangover, minus the vodka rush. I hope the storms go on by very soon before my head explodes. I hope the thunderstorms don’t get too bad in your area.
I understand getting dizzy in high places. I sometimes get light-headed or dizzy, too. My balance is horrible, so I know I’d fall off if I was on that ledge like the person in the photo. I wouldn’t be able to pry you off of the ledge because I’d be wobbling all over the place. haha
I am glad that you had Christian influences in your life. We have been so blessed, haven’t we? 🙂
        Have a great day!

  • Ellen @ The Cynical Sailor

I love the picture of the cats with the flag on the top of your blog – patriotic and adorable. We could use more cute kittens during this election cycle. 🙂 I’m very afraid of heights. For some reason, the water doesn’t scare me too much. Have a great weekend!

  • Stacy Uncorked

Your Friday Funnies are funny! 🙂 Love your fill-in answers – I do the same thing, use paper towels instead of dinner napkins…either when I’ve run out, or if I don’t feel like washing them afterwards. 😉

    Jesus is an awesome guru!

You and the hubby are on the same team when it comes to heights – though he used to have his pilots license and flew small planes (and wants to get a license again), but he will not ever go somewhere high up – not even the roof of the house! 🙂 Have a great weekend! 🙂

Substitutions, Gurus, Fear and Empowerment – just some Fun Friendly Fill-Ins on a Friday!

  • pilch92

Those 2 popcorn comics are cute 🙂 Thank you for joining in the fill-ins, nice answers. I agree that Jesus is the best guru. I am impressed that you use dinner napkins. And how kind of you to forgive a debt. Have a great weekend!

  • Thomas Anderson

    Hi, Cathy!

I got a chuckle from your Friday Sillies, especially the third meme which uses the idiom “scraping the bottom of the bucket.” I would have her friend reply with the following: “She told me she always wanted to date a kernel.” (colonel 🙂

Folded paper towels do make a more economical substitute for dinner napkins, but I draw the line at using toilet tissue at the table. 🙂

It was very nice of you and DH to erase a debt that someone owes you. Mrs. Shady and I do that quite often. It is indeed empowering to make a list of goals, large and small, and derive satisfaction from checking them off one by one.

I am celebrating the completion of season one of From Dusk Till Dawn – an action-packed, suspense filled TV series that knocks my socks off. The special effects are superb. Thank you very much for recommending it!

Have a wonderful weekend, dear friend Cathy!

    • Cathy Kennedy

Tom, LOL yeah, your caption for the third cartoon is not only well suited, but quite funny. Good call on such a clever play on words with such a great return caption. Yeah, TP at the dinner table is totally unclassy! lol Glad to hear you finished the first season of From Dusk Till Dawn. I can’t wait for season four to show on Netflix. I’m surprised that we liked it as much as we did. BTW, there is another new Netflix original series you and Mrs. Shady might want to try called “Stranger Things”. There’s only one season available. It hooked us! Well, y’all have a grand weekend and thanks for popping by for a visit, my friend!
