Don’t (Cats Can) Be Cruel, Cathy’s Mews, & #BoTB Results

Visit Sandee for Tuesday Fun!

I said ‘CATS” not Cathy can be cruel.  I didn’t want to worry any of y’all about visiting this CAThy.

Originally I slanted this post to be simply mewsic and a few giggles but then a turn in events last week through the weekend cause me to spice this up just a bit.

I took an unscheduled leave in Blogosphere beginning last Wednesday because DH had some comp time he wanted to use.  Our plans were to tackle some yard work at the start then make time to take a day trip or two to the mountains.

We managed to get the yard work done and changed the oil in our car which made for a really long day and we were really sore the next morning. I felt pretty awful because of a ginormous headache, too. We decided to take it easy around town on Thursday but that’s when the shoe dropped on our plans.

DD#1 calls totally freaked out and perhaps with good reason to report her OB wants to induce her labor Saturday night at 12:30am.  The reason for the urgency is she developed gestational diabetes.

The news hit my ears and after we hung up, not being up to par I felt a bit confused.  DD#1 kept saying Saturday night but 12:30am? Did she mean Friday after midnight or Saturday after midnight?  She said she’d call back on Friday after 11am with more details.

This changed our plans to go to the mountains not knowing if it was Friday or Saturday night plus we knew regardless which night it was we knew that we couldn’t rely on Sunday to do our weekly shopping. So, that’s what we did.  We went to Walmart got groceries and we traipsed through four or five stories looking for the purrfect little outfits for our little grand-daughter.  Let me just say, it was a devil of a job to find what we wanted.  You can’t find soft pink and white baby apparel like you could 30-years ago but we did manage to pick out several all soft pink outfits which are so precious.  I wish I had taken a picture of them now.  Before coming home, we stopped at Chili’s to get take-out for dinner: Chicken Margarita and Southwestern Egg Rolls.

Friday morning I waited and waited for DD#1 to call.  I figured she was just super busy and couldn’t talk so I called the hospital for directions and what time should we be there in order to spend a few minutes with her.  The nurse confirms Friday night at midnight would be good as they will begin inducing her at 12:30am Saturday morning.

Concerned that either I misunderstood DD#1 or that she did about the appointment time, I called her.  It took a few attempts we connected.  After I told her what I found out, she panicked.  The appointment desk gave her a card with Saturday night into Sunday morning as the time to be there but the hospital somehow had it different. I gave her the number to call which she did and got it straightened out.  All was good as originally set by her doctor.

This mess up in communications knocked us out of going to the mountains on Friday but that’s ok.  I think it was for the best.  This gave us a chance to look for some lacy white baby dress socks.  This was another very hard find.  Don’t mothers dress their little girls up anymore?  Of all the places we went to there were only a grand total of two stores that carried these items.  The evening got away from us before we knew it.  We got some take out from Olive Garden to take home to have with plans to watch ‘The Originals’.  We decided to stay up late to sleep in longer on Saturday since we would need to be at the hospital at midnight.

Saturday, we slept until 11ish. After breakfast we lit into a long list of things that had to be done before going out. Once we got everything crossed off, we went to Walmart to buy flowers, headphones & suckers for DD#1, and bottled water.  Headphones…I mean cheap ones that sit on the ear are really hard to find.  Why is everything that we like just vanishes?  It’s was almost 10pm.  We dashed into Chick-fil-a for dinner. Boy, did I ever need that boost of protein to get my brain going because there was one more thing we wanted to get but couldn’t find easily.  DH wanted to give to the baby’s daddy some chocolate cigars.  He did this when we had our babies decades ago and thought it would be fun to pass the tradition on to a newer generation of parents.  Guess what, we found a grand total of one box  ‘It’s a Girl’ milk chocolate cigars at Party City.  They also had ‘It’s a Girl’ bubblegum cigars so we got one of those, too.

As luck would have it, her appointment time was pushed forward an hour so we didn’t need to be there until 1:30.  I was able to be in with her the whole time and DH was able to visit much of the time, as well as DS.  DD#2 came in from Maine to be with her sister, too.  She did a furtastic job laboring and there were no complications in the delivery other than a little oxygen needed to improve the baby’s heart rate within those last few minutes.  I thought birthing a child was an pAwesome experience but witnessing the event is equally pAwesome.  What a marvelous miracle to see God’s handiwork enter the world before my eyes! I count myself immensely blessed sharing that moment with with precious first-born who did an incredible job.

May I present to you, my little angel, Angelina Nicole!

Mimi’s little angel (6-lbs 12-oz & 19″ long) and DD#1

The room filled with quiet tender
A symphony of mummers and whispers lingered
Awaiting for the important arrival
By and large
At a moment’s call
The family gather
To witness this treasure
Of one so small
A child’s birth
Our granddaughter
 Angelina Nicole

We called our grandparents either grandma, grandpa or mamaw and papaw, as did our kids but we decided to go with Mimi and Poppy.  This just somehow sounds less old, even cute to me.  I know our little one will look at us and see maturing faces but hopefully we’ll feel and act far more youthful than our age says.

🎶🎶🎶 Here’s my RMF song-of-the-day! 🎶🎶🎶

One more thing before I scat out of here and I apologize for the length of this post but sometimes it happens.  The results of October 15th BoTB 3-way showdown turned into only two artists competing in the battle. The Isley Brothers & Santana came up empty-handed getting no votes right until I tossed them my vote.  I’m not sure if I’d gone this way had Contender #1 been holding their own.  I liked all three covers.  The first two covers are considerably longer than last one.  This song off really was between Luther Vandross and The Chamber Brothers.  If you’d been following along then you know who won.

The final tally…The Isley Brothers & Santana (1-vote), Luther (11-votes) and TCB (7-votes).  Listen to Luther’s 1981 R&B #1 hit, Never Too Much.

I’m linking up taking a coffee break for some with Random Tuesday Thoughts with Stacy Uncorked and joining Eugenia for Tuesday Chatter (word prompt ‘by and large’) this morning, as well with Mary from Jingle, Jangle, Jungle for the month long Rocktober Music Mewsic Fest. You’re invited to come with and don’t forget to join me tomorrow for not-so Wordless Wednesday.

I’m was gonna share “Matrix Cat” parody with Mary for today’s mewsic choice but I was afraid it would be a catastrophe. Braw-ha-ha-ha!

I think Mimi suits you! 🙂 CONGRATS to your beautiful grandchild! So glad you guys decided to do the yardwork before the mountains, since it worked out that you weren’t gone when your daughter needed to be induced. 🙂 I got worn out reading about all your running around! LOL! So happy for you, Cathy!

CONGRATS Mimi! Your granddaughter is BEAUTIFUL!! What a sweet photo. Thanks for sharing all the craziness leading up to it. Isn’t it crazy how you can’t find baby clothes in soft pink or lacy baby socks?? Times change I guess. I thought for sure you were gonna say that chocolate cigars no longer exist!

I cracked up at your first meme, “don’t matter what you call him, he ain’t gonna come anyway” hahaha
And the “why you can’t tell a dog a knock-knock joke” one is hilarious as well. I think only folks who have dogs that go crazy when someone is at the door would get that joke so well. Because WE KNOW! Lol…

Congrats again on the birth of sweet Angelina Nicole! That’s a fabulous name too.
Your poem is beautiful too. Really nice touch.

(ps: I was on the losing side of your BOTB but that’s okay. Luther Vandross did good with the song too… But I love the Chamber Brothers… 🙂

    Hope you’re enjoying your weekend,

    Michele at Angels Bark

      Michele,

There really isn’t a loser in BoTB, is there? I enjoyed all the covers I showcased. I’m glad you enjoyed the funnies. They made me smile when I came across them and I knew I had to share them with everyone. Thank you for the sweet congrats and yes, she’s my first granddaughter. Angelina is a cutie-pie and I’m really taken with her. I had no idea the effect she would have on me but it’s a nice one. 🙂

What a beautiful little granddaughter you have, Cathy! Congratulations, Mimi and Poppy! ♥ Also to Luther Vandross, even though I picked The Chambers Bros.

  • A.C. Melody

Awww, congratulations on your beautiful little granddaughter, Mimi Cat! 🙂 I know it was probably even more amazing for you as a grandmother, but I know exactly what you mean about actually seeing a baby come into the world, I got to watch my youngest niece being born and wasn’t expecting it to sucker-punch me right in the heart when she finally arrived, I cried like a baby, myself, I was so awed! Anyway, I hope mom and baby are doing well!

p.s. the Catrix parody was cute & great song choice, another classic I forgot about! 😀

      Mimi,

Thank you and yes, we’re planning on taking time off next week to do the things that we couldn’t last but as you said we had good reason to postpone things. 🙂

      Janet,

      Thanks!

How long did it take for your blood sugar to revert to normal? I read that gestational diabetes can lead to Type II diabetes in the mother and/or baby. Did you have this problems or your child? This concerns me a bit.

      • scr4pl80

I had gestational diabetes with all my kids but the blood sugars went back to normal after they were born. I did develop Type II diabetes but not until the youngest was about 17 or so. I think that if your daughter watches her diet and exercise it will be better for her. I was up to about 235 pounds when I was diagnosed with Type II.

          Janet,

My daughter had a bit more weight than she should going into the pregnancy, hopefully now she can concentrate on getting herself into proper health. Exercise is good for so many reasons but it’s not the driving force behind weight lost, it takes a reduction in calories and when you put the two together then it just happens a lot faster. My grandparents had Type II Diabetes. My grandma was always heavy but my grandpa was tall and lanky but after he got elderly his weight settled around the middle. However, he wasn’t a large man. I guess his body couldn’t metabolize the sugar properly at that stage in his life. My mom was diagnosed in 2005. She’s shorter than me. I think she’s like 4’10”. I’m 5’2″ and I feel like I”m towering over her. lol Anyhow, she had about 50-60 pounds over but she lost a lot it those early years but then my brother died in 2006 and it seems she’s struggled ever since that time. She spends too much time caring for other people and not enough on herself. I’ve scolded her a hundred times for this, too. Daddy was diagnosed a few years back after being on steroids for his lungs that shot his blood sugar alarming high. His numbers are better but not where it should be. I worry about them not taking good enough care of themselves. Are you able to keep your blood sugar in line through dieting or are you on insulin?

        • scr4pl80

I am taking Metformin 500 mg twice a day. My blood sugars are in control with that regimen and also healthy eating. Since I was diagnosed I’ve lost 40 pounds but I put a few back on recently and I’m working now to get those off and more. My goal is 145. That’s a while away but I know that diet helps. I’m not a fan of exercise but I will occasionally walk the Bay Trail or around the block.

Love all the funnies and thanks for linking up.

Aw on your new grand baby. So adorable.

Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. Big hugs and lots of love. ♥

      Jacqui,

Having children isn’t for everyone. It took us more than eight years to decide to start a family with DD#1 being born just after our 9th wedding anniversary. It came as a shock to family when we revealed that we were having a baby. lol Our kids were my in-laws only grandkids. I know our youngest daughter and her husband do not want kids and our son has mentioned kids in general terms, so our oldest daughter’s little girl may be our only grand baby unless she decides to have more. DD#1 always said she wanted to be a mother and I believe she’s going to be a good one, too. 🙂

Things happen for a reason and you were where it mattered the most! Love the poem, Cathy! You eased the phrase into your lovely flowing poem quite nicely. I appreciate you joining in, especially since you had a lot on your plate. Wow!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Eugenia,

I appreciate the opportunity that you give with your word prompts. I just want to be a better me, exploring the deep seated desire and creativity that comes from writing. Thank you for taking time to read my contribution, dear friend!

    Hi, Cathy!

As soon as I read your comment at Shady’s Place I hustled right over here w/o even replying. (I will do so later.) I was hoping nothing terrible had happened to you or a loved one. Instead I am overjoyed to meet the newest member of your family, Miss Angelina Nicole – a baby with a name as pretty as she is! She was a good weight and length at birth, I see. I am so happy for you and your daughter, Cathy! What a wild and woolly 48 hours you had! I agree that items we used to find easily in stores are no longer readily available, especially things you need to find in a hurry for a special occasion like this one. I’m glad it all worked out for you and that you were on hand to witness the birth of your granddaughter. I am also delighted to know that your other daughter came down from Haven, Maine, 🙂 to join the rest of the family at the hospital in time for the delivery of the precious cargo. Do you think Angelina will acquire the nickname Angie? Of this I am sure. When she looks at you, she will see a very youthful grandmother.

I enjoyed your cat memes and the parody video, and I am happy to know that my Pick To Click, Luther V, won the band battle.

Congratulations on this blessed event in your lives, dear friend Cathy, and thank you for making time to visit me at SPMM. Enjoy the rest of your week!

      Tom,

From Thursday until Sunday afternoon was a push, push (no pun intended) to get things done. Talk about maxing out ones time to get necessary chores out of the work? Whew! I’m still rather exhausted but happily so. It makes me wonder how on earth I ever got through those early months of each of my children’s lives where I got very little sleep, especially with DS who had his days & nights mixed up for the first 6-weeks. I was like a zombie! lol

I’m sure Angelina will be shortened but I hope if it is, it’s Angel. We have an Angie in the family already. DD#1’s first cousin, my brother’s second daughter, given Angela at birth is called Angie. Of course, we also have a two Nicoles (different spellings), DD#2 and her first cousin, my brother’s third daughter. Well…I’m not sure how my little Angelina will see me but hopefully she’ll find my abilities to keep up the younger group amazing. I know I was always awed by my in-laws who seemed to wear me out with their go-go spirit. My late FIL while in his 70s used to ride his bicycle with us around Cades Cove. That doesn’t seem like a big deal now but back then it did mainly because we just didn’t think of our parents doing that sort of thing mostly.

I’m sorry for alarming you with my post on your blog but I didn’t want to spoil your surprise. Thanks for popping in to share in my joyful mews, dear friend. Have a blessed day!
