Di-rect from the Netherlands

Awww Mondays hosted by Sandee from Comedy Plus.

WOW, it’ s hard to believe yet again this is the last Monday of February.    I’m not all that disappointed, though.  In less than month it’ll be spring once more.  I’m sure you’re like me when I say, I’m ready for warmer weather, unless you live in Florida then you’re not ready at all.  It’s not only the lovely temperatures returning but signs of new life – flowers blooming, trees budding, birds singing, … The earth awakens from it’s long winter slumber refreshed, ready to brings gifts of beautiful and harvest to all.

Last November while visiting Binky, our little furriend, I heard Solider On which made me want to hear more by Di-rect.  For  your choice song picks on Monday’s Music Moves Me,  I am sharing the bands’ Wild Hearts album released last October.  Hit play to listen to the 10-song playlist.

Song tracks on Wild Hearts playlist: 1.  Born Again  2.  No Goodbye  3.  Nightcrawler  4.  Hibernation  5.  Soldier On  6.  Naked 7.  Wild Hearts  8.  Color  9.  Snakebite  10.  Black Cat

This is a mewsic linky party. Every other week we have a suggested mewsic theme (see side menu) to build your song set around and all participants share YouTube or Vimeo videos for our mewsic enthusiasts.  Failure to meet this basic guideline puts your URL in danger of being removed or labeled – NO MUSIC.

Before I skedaddle off, let me share last week’s BoTB results in the triple “Photograph” song title (all different) showdown.  This is how you voted:

Mike S., Birgit, & Brian voted for Engelbert Humperdinck

Lee, Mimi, John, & Stephen preferred Ella Fitzgerald

Tom, Mary, & Eugenia liked best Def Leppard

It was another tight battle and I nearly had a three-way tie but Stephen kept that from happening when he cast his bote on Friday.  We have a winner in this showdown, Ella Fitzgerald!  I think Joe Pass played a big part in sealing this victory for her, though.  I’ll be back with another BoTB on March 1st.  I hope you’ll play along again.  I’m gonna leave you with more music by this magnetic duo with their 1976 Again YT playlist.  Have a boogietastic week!  X💋X💋, Cathy

  1. It was a good battle, Cathy! And I love the spinning bird rocking out to mewsic! I am sooo ready for spring. 🌺 🌸 🌼 🌻

  2. Darling little bird on the turntable! And Ella was my fav when I was a teenager in the 50’s and she still rocks for me! Cheers!

  3. Nice choices. This year is going by quickly despite still dealing with COVID. XO

  4. Awww I love the little cutie pie taking a ride on the turntable. So cute.

Love the video. They are very good.

Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week. Love and hugs, my friend. ♥

  5. Very good playlist. Thanks for the introduction to this band. I can hear a little bit of Electric Light Orchestra, Journey, and Boston going on here.

  6. Hi, Cathy!

Happy Awww-some 4M Monday, dear friend! I hope you and DH had a nice weekend.

Awww – that birdie’s having a ball spinning on his turntable. I wonder if he’s listening to The Byrds, The Flamingos, The Penguins, The Cardinals or The Orioles. 🙂 That video reminds me of the Parrot record label, home to The Zombies, Tom Jones, Engelbert Humperdinck, Lulu and other UK artists, plus America’s Boris Karloff imitator Bobby “Boris” Pickett.

You are correct, dear friend. I am not looking forward to spring, and we have already had waves of warmer weather, signaling that winter’s on the run. I don’t think the groundhog gave us our money’s worth this season. 🙂

I thoroughly enjoyed this introduction to Di-rect, a Dutch band that has performed pop rock, alternative rock and pop punk since it formed in 1999. I especially like the funky retro 80s sound of “Hibernation” which reminds me of the Michael Jackson sound. I see that “Soldier On” reached the top 3 on the Dutch Top 40 chart last year. That one, along with “Color” reminds me of Phil Collins. The entire Wild Hearts album is tunetastic with great vocals and musicianship.

Thanks for reporting the result of the band battle. As you recall, I voted for Ella & Joe before I realized that Santana & Chris were also entered in the contest. I switched my vote to their collaboration which helped make the outcome more even than it would have been. I love the album by Ella & Joe. Today’s young people are missing something special if they never listen to the great mewsic of past generations such as these fine old jazz recordings.

Thank you for getting the week off to a sensational start with smiles and tunes. Have a wonderful week, dear friend Cathy!

    1. Tom,

Oh that’s a good one of the birdie listening to popular oldie bands akin to feathered friends. I’m happy to know that you enjoyed the introduction of Di-rect. I strive to bring new-to-me sounds to others. Your vote switch did help to tighten this BoTB. I was happy to see things fairly even for all three contestants which doesn’t happen often. It was certainly a close and interesting call. Thanks for dropping by this morning, my friend. Have a good week!
