Monday's Music Moves Me

6 Songs to honor Marie’s Mama

Awww Mondays hosted by Sandee from Comedy Plus.

In 2017, I started a series Famous Musicians & Their Musical Kids in which I featured Dean Martin.   For the Marie’s final theme, she wants to pay tribute to her mother through music using some of her favorite artists to choice from Dean Martin, Glenn Miller, and Frank Sinatra to swing to on the Monday’s Mewsic Moves Me dance floor.

My first thought was pick one of the three artists but then I decided to go with a couple of songs for each going with the ones that pulled on my ear the hardest and came up with these 6 songs to honor Marie’s Mama.

Track list: 1. Sway (Dean Martin) 2. Fly Me To The Moon (Frank Sinatra) 3. In The Mood (Glenn Miller) 4. Mambo Italiano (Dean Martin) 5.  Strangers In The Night (Frank Sinatra) 6. Chattanooga Choo Choo (Glenn Miller)

This month’s honorary co-hostess is Marie from XmasDolly

This is a mewsic linky party. Every other week we have a suggested mewsic theme (see side menu) to build your song set around and all participants share YouTube or Vimeo videos for our mewsic enthusiasts.  Failure to meet this basic guideline puts your URL in danger of being removed or labeled – NO MUSIC.

A special thanks to our darlin’ Marie for the fabulous March themes.  I’m sorry you had computer issues and couldn’t participate in your own themes.  Hopefully, you’ll be back soon.  Next time we meet on the dance floor it’ll be a brand new month with a brand new honorary co-host.

I’m taking the next three days off from my normal routine to prepare for the A to Z Challenge beginning April 1st.  Until then, have a boogietastic week!  X💋X💋, Cathy

I thought I didn’t know “Sway” but once the music started, yes, I knew it. The others are all classics. Strangers in the Night was a hit when I was in junior high (now called middle school) and that song helped me spark my love for Frank Sinatra. Nothing like those classics! Good luck with A to Z.

Awww on the mom and pup. Adorable.

Love the play list. Now that’s some great music. I love big band music and Glenn Miller a huge favorite.

I miss Marie something awful. I hope she gets that new computer up and running soon.

Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week. Love and hugs. See you in April. ♥

I have to admit, Sway was my favorite this morning. Not only was the arrangement and vocals great, but the dance scene was beautifully filmed. There was a just a little bit of casual velvet in Dean’s voice that made him so popular with everyone.

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy Awww-some 4M Monday, dear friend! I hope you and DH had a nice weekend in Tennessee.

That’s an aww-some picture of the mama seal smooching her cub.

I thoroughly enjoyed the six songs you picked to help Marie pay tribute to her mama. I knew the song “Sway” right away, but it was Bobby Rydell’s version I grew up with, a single that reached #14 on the chart. I like Dino’s version more. Wiki sez: “The first version to achieve considerable success in the United States was recorded by singer Dean Martin with the Dick Stabile orchestra in 1954.” Many other artists have recorded the song including Michael Bublé and The Pussycat Dolls.

“Fly Me To The Moon” is another blast from my mewsical past, and I remember this version by Ol’ Blue Eyes. I own a CD released in 2004 by the dazzling blonde former ABBA star Agnetha Fältskog. The album, entitled My Colouring Book, contains her dreamy version of “Fly Me To The Moon.” It’s interesting that the song was originally titled “In Other Words” and that title was used on Kaye Ballard’s original recording and subsequent releases by other artists throughout the 50s. It wasn’t until Peggy Lee had success with the song in the early 60s that it was officially renamed. Frank Sinatra’s version was closely associated with the Apollo astronauts’ missions to the Moon.

Glenn Miller’s “In The Mood” and “Chattanooga Choo Choo” were among my parents’ favorites. They danced to those tunes in their youth and throughout their lives practically every Saturday night when they went with friends to venues that played big band swing of the 30s and 40s.

My mom also owned a copy of Dean Martin’s “Mambo Italiano” and played it often, creating a festive mood at our house.

Of course, I well know Sinatra’s Grammy Award Winning hit “Strangers In The Night,” a song that topped both the pop and the Easy Listening chart in 1966.

Thank you for bringing us some of the greatest sounds of the last century, dear friend Cathy. Have a wonderful week!
