Battle of the Bands,  Christmas Music Marathon

Day 28 : S.a.D In the Bleak Midwinter

This month, I’m sharing a Christmas song a day and although Christmas Day is now past, I’m finishing up the challenge I started.  In the Crosswalk article, I mentioned in a previous post, I found a Christmas carol based on poem from 1872 surrounding the birth, life, and second coming of Christ.  It wasn’t until the early part of the 20th century that the song was set to music.   I was moved by Susan Boyle’s lovely rendition and wish to share it with you now.  I give you, In the Bleak Midwinter!

Don’t worry about commenting.  There’s no worries or fuss or strings attached, simply a moment for you to refresh your body and mind. 😉

Let me do a quick mention of my last BOTB on the 15th.  It would’ve been a total blow out had it not been for the few individuals who voted against the grain in this round. That being said the results aren’t going to come as a shock that the winner of Cool Yule Showdown was Colin James with a 11 to 2 victory.  I think I was bit surprised at how this went down.  I liked both artists quite well but I might’ve enjoyed Setzer a smidge more and I even listened to his entire Christmas album at YouTube. I made a comment to DH how much I liked it and wouldn’t you know the boy got me the digital album. Whoo-hoo!

Alrighty this is how the votes stacked up.  Patrick and Driller’s Place tossed their ballots in the hat for Brian Setzer. Thanks boys for keeping this showdown from being a total blow out!  Myke Todd, Stephen, Birgit, Mimi, Brian, Lee, John, Debbie, Sandee, Eugenia, & Tom ensured Colin James victory.  I appreciate everyone who took part in this Battle of the Bands.  My next showdown is scheduled for January 1st, so don’t miss it!

I’ll be here with bells on tomorrow morning with another Christmas song to start your day.  Allow yourself time to enjoy the last few days of the holidays without anymore fuss.  Reflect on the beauty of the season with your favorite hot beverage and think about the wonderful things to come in the new year.  X💋X💋, Cathy

I remember when Susan Boyle came out to sing and everyone looked at her and rolled their eyes until she sang. She has an amazing voice.

Love them all and my favorite is Susan Boyle. I just love her. I remember her audition on Britain’s Got Talent. I was as shocked by her voice as the panel was.

Have a fabulous day and week, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥

      Sandee,

I’ve known about Susan Boyle ever since she won on Britain’s Got Talent but I’m not sure how closely I listened to her until she appeared on AGT a few years back. Her voice is really beautiful!

With his greater renown and larger fanbase I would have expected Setzer to get more votes if not score a win. But I can see why my pick was the winner here.

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy Tickle Me Tuesday and S. a. D. Day 28, dear friend!

I don’t think I wanna try smooching that kitty at the end of your post. That’s a “hard pass,” as they say, but a funny cartoon.

I well remember Scottish songbird Susan Boyle who gained international fame via her appearances on Britain’s Got Talent. I enjoyed listening to Susan’s pure, clear voice singing “In the Bleak Midwinter” accompanied by serene music and heavenly backing choir.

Thanks for reporting the result of your latest band battle. Right from the start on day one, I could tell it was going to be a lopsided affair. How nice of DH to pick up on your comment about liking Brian Setzer’s Christmas album and putting it in your stocking for Christmas. I like Colin James even more after hearing his swinging Santa song this morning. If you’re gonna go secular at Christmas, “Boogie Woogie Santa Claus” is the way to do it.

Have a wonderful Tuesday, dear friend Cathy, and I’ll see you tamale. I have a morning doctor appointment, but I should have time to visit you and comment.

      Tom,

Yeah, you might want to stay away from that kitty. lol

I’m glad you enjoyed “Boogie Woogie Santa Claus”. It was one of his better songs off his 2017 Christmas album. Colin James is good but I think I prefer Brian Setzer a smidge more and I really didn’t see such a lopsided showdown when I paired these two artists together. Secular Christmas tunes that swing have grown on me over the years but there’s no replacing the traditional sounds of the holiday for sure. I love a mix, though.
