Christmas Music Marathon

Day 10: S.a.D Santa Claus Is Watching You

Christmas greetings!  For the month of December, I plan to share a Christmas song each day with the hope of adding a little extra cheer to your holiday.  Part of my challenge in this series is to bring to you a new-to-me song or artist discoveries.  There’s no telling what song pick I’ll go with but you’ll find artists from all genres celebrating in song this almost magical, holy season.

It’s Friday.  I thought it would be fun to add a little humor into the holiday mix and who better to do that then Ray Stevens with Santa Claus Is Watching You!

Don’t even worry with leaving a comment. This is for your enjoyment.  There’s no worries or fuss or strings attached. Simply a moment for you to unwind and refresh your mind or body. 😉

I’ll be here with bells on tomorrow morning with another Christmas song waiting to start your day and please don’t let the hustle of the holiday weigh you down.  The holiday festivities are beautiful and fun but the true reason warms the heart better than these earthly things. Take time to bask in God’s great love.   It’s the most wonderful time of the year! X💋X💋, Cathy

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy Day 10 of the S. a. D. seasonal song sock hop, dear friend!

I well remember this novelty song by prolific singer and songwriter Ray Stevens. “Santa Claus Is Watching You” was first released on Stevens’ 1967 album The Best of Ray Stevens and re-released as a single with this accompanying mewsic video in the weeks before Christmas in 1985, It was fun to watch the antics in the video this morning. The ditty carries a melody that’s very similar to “Yakety Yak,” the 1958 hit by The Coasters. In the song, “Clyde” the camel, the lead character from Stevens’ 1962 hit “Ahab the Arab,” makes a cameo appearance replacing Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer who is “on a stakeout at your house.” Stevens has stated that Clyde the camel was named after R&B singer Clyde McPhatter, formerly the lead singer of The Drifters. Clyde became Stevens’ mascot over the years and was used as the name and logo of his record label.

Thanks for the mewsical Friday Sillies and morning smiles, dear friend Cathy. Have a safe and happy weekend!

      Tom,

Thanks for sharing the factoids about Clyde the camel which I didn’t know. I didn’t make the connection that this song has a similarity to “Yakety Yak” but I do hear that now that you mentioned it. I love Ray Stevens! I’d love to go to Nashville to see him. His show is broadcast locally and sometimes when DH is flipping through the channels we’ll see it and pause briefly to watch. He looks a bit frail but he will dance with a female audience member at the close of the show and his performances are a still fantastic!
