Monday's Music Moves Me

Color Me in Mewsic #4M

Good morning, Kittens and Dawgs! In case you didn’t get the memo…. DST started yesterday. Are  you running late today?

It makes no difference what time it is because Curious as a Cathy (as in my blog only) never sleeps and I welcome you! Y’all probably recall my mentioning the 1993 Blizzard. 25years ago today, Knoxville was buried under nearly two feet of snow. We measured 22″ at our house.  You can read WBIR remembrance of that day, here and here are my little darling angels playing in all that glorious white stuff. DS wasn’t born yet.

DD#1, age 4

DD#2, age 2

In keeping with this week’s theme, COLOR ME WITH MEWSIC; any songs with a color in the title or about the song”, I felt this song an excellent choice to remember this event.

Are you ready to groove? Do you have some moves? Let’s listen to some mewsic!  I’m going to keep today’s post short and sweet. Next month, I’m doing the A to Z Challenge and I preparing my posts for the annual event. If you’ve done this then I don’t need to tell you why this makes life so much easier. Anywho, here’s  a short Elvis Costello COLOR playlist

Please read….This is a weekly hop for mewsic enthusiasts regardless if you follow our weekly theme if you have tunes to share then we’re ready to dance with you. Otherwise, I ask that you do not link non-related posts below to boost traffic to your site. You’re welcome to leave your URL in comments with a brief description inviting me (and others) to check it out. Thank you!  I invite you step on the floor with my dance partners:  XmasDolly (Party Coordinator )and fellow co-hosts Stacy and Colette who’s on blog leave due to health issues, so please keep her in prayer.

[tweetthis]Tell a friend & hit the dance floor with “Color Me In Mewsic” ith the #4M gals! #music @xmasdolly [/tweetthis]

What mewsic moves you today?

I invite you to plug in with the “Sparks” community hosted by good pal, Annie at McGuffy’s Reader where you can energize your soul and make the world a little better with sparks of encouragement. Let’s make the world a better place, one person at a time beginning with #1! 😉

I have appointments today and plan to boogie with y’all early or at least with as many as I can but don’t worry I’ll catch you tomorrow on the dance floor for sure. Meanwhile, keep those tunes playing and your body swaying. Between now and the end of the month, I’m taking it easy in Blogsophere as I prep for next month’s A to Z Challenge. Watch for my Theme Reveal this coming weekend. Anywho, I’m placing daily posts on hold, except on Mondays so you will find me the dance floor each week. You can subscribe via email for new post notification so to not miss my mews! Have a tunetastic week, my friend!!

I am so ready for our hour to be returned to us already! 🙂 LOVED the pics of your kids playing in the snow – so precious! And LOVED your song choices, Cathy! Thanks so much for the dance! 🙂

  • greyzoned/angelsbark

    Hey Cathy,
It’s Friday already and it seems like Monday was yesterday! Anyway, I LOVED seeing the pics of your kiddos playing in the snow. So precious!!! The look on DD#2’s face is absolutely priceless! You probably have heard me talk about how much I miss the cold and snow. I’m from Niagara Falls/Buffalo and I kinda miss blizzards. My most memorable was the Blizzard of ’77 when 96 inches of snow fell on the city. It was crazy. My brother worked for GM and he was stuck/stranded in the plant for a week. Vehicles were banned from driving and if caught, people got major fines. The only thing allowed on the roads were snow-plows and emergency snowmobiles. More than anything I miss the cold. I hardly ever gets cold here in Austin. Oh well…
Loved how your post started off with Cher! Great song there!
Fleet Foxes “White Winter Hymnal” was really nice! I enjoyed the video.
And a block of Elvis Costello was cool. My favorite was the first one, “Almost Blue”. How neat that he has so many “colorful” songs!

Have a great weekend. I’ll get over to your battle soon. Probably won’t be today but will get there, I promise… 🙂

You certainly kept it sweet! Love the song.
I too am preparing for A-Z. I am attempting two blogs again so, time is of essence.

What theme are you going with this year? Drawing again perhaps?

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Michelle,

WOW, I always marvel at those who run more than one blog in the A to Z Challenge. My hat is off to you, girl. Yeah, I’m doing art again. How did you guess? lol Are you using two different themes for your blogs? I will try to look for you and perhaps, we’ll cross paths in all the fun. Thanks for stopping by!

  • Alana Mautone (@RamblinGarden)

The Fleet Foxes song was new to me – I enjoyed it. I have memories of my son (who was not quite 3) in that storm – for us in New York it was March 13. I remember him in his little red snowsuit making snow tunnels with a friend in our yard after that song. Have a great week, Cathy!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Alana,

Your son and DD#2 must be close in age because she was just 2 months short of her third birthday. I loved that little pink coat she’s wearing. Her big sis owed it first. That’s the beauty of having two girls, I got twice the use out of their clothes whereas I had to buy all new things when DS came on the scene. 😀 Thanks for sharing in the memories and mewsic.

  • Birgit

Ok so I am going to try here again:) I love that claymation video which I find quite touching and I love that song too. I am not one for Costello but I liked this song. I am thinking of Judy Garland singing over the rainbow but the one that truly makes me cry…when she is on stage singing it after doing her Be Aa Clown number. https://youtu.be/ss49euDqwHA

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Birgit,

You mentioned trying again, was my blog having issues? Thanks for the link to Judy Garland’s emotional “Over the Rainbow” rendition. Have noticed she looks just a little like Prince? The makeup on her face looks like a scruffy goatee and the way her hair (maybe it’s a wig) frames her face just reminds me of him. Perhaps, my imagination is working overtime. 🙂

Cher came out for Mardi Gras so we’ve not been able to walk into a shop for the last month without Cher blasting out in store…it made me smile when I saw the clip.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Lydia,

Do you mean, the stores were playing Cher’s mewsic? I always liked the Sonny & Cher show as a kid. I thought they were a cute but odd looking couple at the same time. I wouldn’t say I’m a huge fan of Cher’s but she does alright. Thanks for popping by for a visit.

  • McGuffy's Reader

Well, that was fun! I always felt bad when I broke my crayons, like they were victims. I used them first, then. And, I would take extra care for them. I am so happty that you add Sparks. I think a lot of you, my friend. Hugs.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Annie,

Oh, yes I felt bad when I broke my crayons, too. Isn’t that funny? I hadn’t thought about how that made me feel until now. I think of you often, too, dear friend! 🙂

  • XmasDolly

Hi Girlfriend, Your darling angels are adorable. What great pics! Thanks for the introductions to both songs I’ve never heard them before and Mr. Costello is one of our favorites around here too! Hubby really likes him. I was here last night, but you weren’t posted yet! Oh well, I’ve been at appointments all day myself and I’m leaving for one more in 15 minutes soooooooooo have a great week and thanks for the introduction to your sweet song.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Marie,

Thanks for making time to stop by to dance in-between appointments. I’m back trying to get settled in this evening with dinner going and DH doing a few things. Days like this really stretch me thin. Maybe, I can relax a bit tomorrow. Guess what? It snowed on me today, coming down rather heavy for awhile. I was getting a little worried that we were going to get a repeat of the blizzard from 25 years ago.Have a good evening!

  • Mary B

    Hello Cathy!

Great selection today! I’m pleased as punch that you selected Elvis Costello and his color songs. I had not heard these songs in such a long time. It was pleasant to listen and dance to them again this morning.

    ~Mary

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Mary,

Pleased as punch. LOL I love that phrase and haven’t heard it in a long time! 😀 You made my evening extra special with that, my friend. I wasn’t familiar with these Costello’s song picks but I do love sharing new finds. Thanks for stopping by for a dance with me. 😉

    • Cathy Kennedy

      John,

I’m happy that you enjoyed this selection. As I just responded to Mary, all of these Costello songs are new-to-me. I’m a bit pushed with being on the run all day and now doing the evening routine but I will get over to dance with you tomorrow morning, my friend. Thanks for popping in for a visit!

Wonderful Spark, Cathy! Broken crayons do indeed still color, and broken people still can shine! In fact most of us are broken in some ways, visible to others or not, but that doesn’t mean we aren’t amazing creations with our own special gifts to bring to the world. We need to stop judging anyone, and anything, by appearances only. Look what wonderful things can be done with broken colors! (My grandmother used to melt them and drip the colored wax inside of mason jars to make lovely flower vases for her farmhouse! <3

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Josie,

Isn’t that true, most of us are broken. I remember my uncles doing something with broken crayons, they melted them and dripped them in a way to make an interesting candle. I’m not sure if my memory is serving e well but that’s the memory I have stuck in my brain. When our kiddies were little I took their broken crayons and recycled them to make new multi-color crayons. Have you done that? That’s really cool and they loved it. Thanks for visiting.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Morgan,

DD#2 introduced me to Fleet Foxes several years ago. I’m glad you enjoyed the song. It was great to have you stop in to boogie with me. 🙂

  • Joyce Lansky

The kids are adorable! Love Cher and Elvis Costello. He’s kinda a weird dude who reminds me of a group of women who I didn’t like. They loved him, and that’s ALL we had in common. 🙂

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Joyce,

I really didn’t know who Elvis Costello was until I started blogging and while he’s not my fave, I do like some of his mewsic and I enjoy his style. You’re right, he is kinda weird which isn’t all bad. 🙂

  • Cathy Keisha

Yo! I did the A-Z Challenge a few years ago and once was enough. There are so many songs with colors in the title, as well as songs with black and white in the title. I’m doing the black and white on another day. Have a good week.

  • Arlee Bird

When that snowstorm hit K-town I had already been living in Los Angeles for two years so I missed it. I don’t remember hearing about it, but I’m sure my mother told me. That was a big snowfall for that part of the country.

Wowsa! Thank you for the fun-filled Monday, Cathy! I’m swinging and swaying to the mewsic! Love the pics of your kids playing in the snow.

  • 15andmeowing

I love you spark, that is very true 🙂 Great mewsic choices too, I had never heard Elvis Cosello’s Blue, I like it . Very cute photos of your kids enjoying the snow.We are supposed to get more tomorrow, this winter won’t end.

  • Thomas Anderson

    Hi, Cathy!

It has been a long time since I watched Cher’s iconic music video for “If I Could Turn Back Time,” a 1989 single that went top 3 in the U.S. and reached #1 on the charts in Australia and Norway. The excitement meter was pegged as Cher and her band performed to a mass of cheering sailors on board the battleship USS Missouri. I was producing my own music videos at the time and drawing ideas and inspiration from productions like that one. It is heartwarming to see pics of your daughters playing in the deep snow all those years ago. I’m thinking the DD that moved to Maine must feel right at home in that snowy locale. The color songs by Fleet Foxes and Elvis Costello were all new to my ears. I enjoyed them. Seems to me that the color blue is used in songs more often than any other. Remember Bobby Vinton’s hits “Blue Velvet” and “Blue On Blue”?

Have a great week, dear friend Cathy!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Tom,

It looked like that crowd of sailers really enjoyed having Cher onboard. lol Yes, DD#2 really likes her new home in Maine. It’s funny yesterday while out running errands it snowed quite heavily and I began to wonder if we’d have a repeat but by 2 pm Mr. Blue Sky made an appearance. Yep, I’ve noticed there are a lot of song titles with the word blue. After Blue on Blue released, Vinton’s 1963 album came featuring this song and nine other blue song titles. When Blue Velvet hit big, the album changed its name, making it the title track. I had hoped to find this complete album on YouTube but no such luck. Thanks for dropping by, my friend. Have a good week!
