Monday's Music Moves Me

Christmas songs from other countries

Awww Mondays hosted by Sandee from Comedy Plus.

Welcome to Monday’s Mewsic Moves Me!

This is the farewell week to 2019.  I can’t believe another year has nearly blown right past me.  With no honorary co-host for December, our month-long theme has been nothing but Christmas mewsic!  This is it, no wimping out folks and although Christmas is technically behind us, there’s no room for the mean Mr. Grinch or the bah-humbug from an old Scrooge if you’re not with the Christmas program, then kindly take yourself elsewhere cause we don’t want you spoiling our party!

It’s really hard to come up with something interesting and different where mewsic goes this time of you, so I’m going to go with a bang with one final share of Christmas songs from other countries.

Lasst uns froh und munter sein translates to Let Us Be Happy and Cheerful is a traditional German Christmas carol sung on the Nicholas Eve, December 5th.

Dormi Dormi Bel Bambi (Sleep O Sleep My Lovely Child) is a traditional Italian song from the 18th century performed acapella by the US Army Band Chorus.

Petit Papa Noel (English translation: Small Santa) from 1946 sang by Tino Rossi.  Popular vocalists Josh Groban and Celine Dion covered this sweet French Christmas carol of a child wishing for Santa to bring the toys from his/her dreams.

Mi burrito sabanero (The Donkey of Bethlehem), the original song title is El Burrito de Belénis and it’s a popular Spanish song from Venezuela, the artist singing in this video is Juanes. The melody is joyful and the words tell Juanes the excitement of one traveling to see the baby Jesus on a little donkey.

Táladh Chrìosda (The Christ Child’s Lullaby) is a beautiful Gaelic Christmas carol written by Father Ranald Rankin in 1855. This version is sung and arranged by a Scottish lass, Rachel Walker

Please readthis is a mewsic linky party, which means all participates are sharing songs that one can listen to from YouTube or Vimeo and a not a post about mewsic or mewsicians.  Failure to meet this basic guideline puts your URL in danger of being removed or labeled – NO MUSIC.

It’s now time to join the 4M dance party!

ATTENTION!!! Would you like to be an honorary co-host? If so, shoot me an email or leave me a comment saying ‘YES, sign me up!’ and I’ll secure the next available month for you then send you the details. 😉

The next time we meet on the dance floor it’ll be a new year, so I’m going to say goodbye to 2019 now and leave you with Dan Fogelberg singing, Same Old Lang Syne.

What do you have planned New Year’s Eve? If you get out in the madness then… please be safe, be wise, and be happy! Oh,  yes and keep those tunes playing coz I’ll be boogieing over to see you soon.  😉

As much as I enjoyed the Christmas music from other countries (especially the last one; what a voice Rachel Walker has), I must admit my favorite was “Same Old Lang Syne” . I tend to forget about Dan Fogelberg, and he died so (relatively) young, but I do have a family connection with Peoria, IL (where the song takes place) my last living uncle, and one of my cousins, his wife, and his daughter, live there. So that makes it even more special! It’s such a sweet song, and it’s based on a true event in Dan’s life. So thank you for your friendship, Cathy, thank you for taking care of Music Moves Me these last few months, and I hope you have a wonderful New Years.

      Patrick,

Thank you for joining me on the dance floor for our final Monday in December as we wrap things up with this month’s Christmas mewsic fest. Have a blessed 2020, my friend!

Awww on the kitty. I don’t know if that would work, but it’s worth a try. Let us know how it turns out.

Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥

      Birgit,

Thanks for sharing YT video. You wrote Stille, Stille, Stille. Oh Du Frohicle but the info on the clips reads: Leise rieselt der Schnee – Nana Mouskouri which is quite lovely. It’s so peaceful. 🙂

      Robin,

Ahh, thanks! I love reading that you’ve enjoyed my Christmas songs selections this month. I got a bit carried away with the song-a-day challenge but I love the concept after learning Driller’s Place does this annually. I think last year was the first for me to catch some of his contributions. I’d like to do this again next December but we’ll see how things develop. Anyway, I appreciate you stopping by for some boogie time!

    Hi, Cathy!

Your Monday Mewsic really did Move Me, dear friend! It was refreshing to hear seasonal songs of other countries, all of them new to my ears. I was especially touched by “Petit Papa Noel” sung in that scene from the French film Destins released at Christmas time in 1946. I was also enthralled listening to the Gaelic Christmas carol performed by Rachel Walker, a folk-singer who was born in England and moved to Scottland at age eight. Her voice is pure and clear. I also enjoyed Dan Fogelberg’s soft rock song “Same Old Lang Syne” released at Christmas 1980.

I wholeheartedly agree with your closing meme. Everybody gets a clean slate on the first day of January. We can make 2020 a better year if we choose to write and speak words of kindness and respect all along the way. Surely our words and deeds, whether good or bad, will come back to us.

Mrs. Shady and I plan to watch the film The Irishman tomorrow night and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood on New Year’s night.

I remember you and I, BB and other bloggers remarking numerous times that 2019 is whizzing by, starting way back in the spring. Now here we are down to the final two days. I can honestly say that I have enjoyed all you had to offer this past year, Cathy, your delightful artwork, your travel photography, your Sillies and your selection of mewsic. Thank you very much for another great year of friendship. I wish you and your family all the best in 2020. See you next year, dear friend Cathy!

      Tom,

Thanks for joining me today on the dance floor! I’m happy you enjoyed my Christmas tunes from around the globe. When I came up with the idea to do this, I instantly thought of you with your Bandstands in Foreign countries series. 🙂

I can’t wait to get your opinion on your movie marathon on NYE. We have ‘The Irishman’ in cue on Netflix and we’ve heard ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ is a good film. Please let me know what you think!

The year indeed did zing by. I think we all have too much going on and that’s why our year seems to disappear. This year I’ve blogged more continuous days in a row than I have in the past few years and while I enjoyed every moment of it, I have to wonder how much longer I can go at that pace before burn out strikes? I definitely do not want that to happen.

You’re such a sweet friend. Blogging opened the world to me so-to-speak giving me opportunities to do something that I love share with others and forging new friendships. Many of which including yours have turned out to be the genuine thing. Here’s to the new year, may it hold many wonderful things for you and Mrs. Shady!
