Skywatch Friday

Chimney Tops with low clouds & blue skies

DSC_5215 Chimney's SWF

Hello, kittens & dawgs!  I took this gorgeous view this past Monday in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The peak in the background is Chimney Tops, a very popular hiking spot in the mountains. We have not hiked the trail. We’re told it’s a fairly strenuous climb.

Fall is making its presence known gently with slight foliage change and nippier a.m. temps. In this shot the colors are beginning to show and I think by early next week the change will be much more visible

Has fall made its way in your area?

It’s been awhile, since I’ve joined the Celebrate the small things meme and I thought I’d do so today.

  • I celebrate being approved for the drug assistance program, since we have no insurance due DH’s job loss.
  • I celebrate the change in seasons. Fall is my favorite!
  • I celebrate my weight loss success.
  • I celebrate that my blog is back up after nearly being down a week. 😀
  • I celebrate spending time with DH.

Life should be celebrated, even when it seems like you have no reason to celebrate. Just look around, I bet you’ll see something good! What are you celebrating?

Let’s celebrate making new friends together. We can begin by joining Friendship Friday and Follow Who? Social-Weekend blog hops.

That’s a wrap this time. Thanks for stopping by.  Until we meet on the other side of the lens next, have a foto-tastic day!

you have the most gorgeous scenery around you! I’d love to hike that mountain. It’s all flat around here, but still: Yes – I celebrate the lovely walk hubby and I had in our own woods where Fall was finally bursting all around us in glorious hues. I didn’t even take my camera, I just wanted to enjoy being out in the fresh, crisp, clean air. But I’ll go back – you know I will.
Today, I celebrate our Canadian Thanksgiving with my family over for a big turkey dinner. I am thankful to grab my 15 minute coffee break, and have some time to visit my fave blogger friends too. Thankful for it ALL.

Les, Happy Thanksgiving Day to you, my friend! I so forget Canadians have their day of thanks in October. This is Columbus Day for us, but we don’t do much for the day. It would have been nice to have gone to the mountains, but we figured it would be more congested than usual with Federal employees and possibly students off for the day. So, we’re just chillaxing around the house. So, glad you liked my view! 😉

I’m sorry to hear your husband hasn’t found work yet (I’m in the same boat with mine), but at least the drug assistance program will help. Congrats on your weight loss and the blog troubles being fixed! I wish you both good news as fall continues. Thanks for sharing the pic, and if you decide you want back on the hop linky, let me know via email. 🙂

Lexa, I hope to be back at my routine blogging. After I set next week’s Friday post, then I’ll let you know to add me back to your linky list. Thanks for the offer, my friend!

Cathy – I love your photo. It’s been a long time since I was there. Glad your blog is back!!!

Thanks, Dixie! It’s good to be back. So, glad you liked the photo. The mountains are crawling with terrorists, I mean tourist. It’s crazy wild! I can’t wait for things to slow down in the mountains again.

So nice to celebrate the small things. Any good thing is good to celebrate. Love the pic. And others have already commented on today’s scorching temps in So.Cal. I’m so looking forward to cooler temps. Soon, we hope.

Fall has not made its way to So Cal yet, Summer remains an unwanted guest at this point.

Beautiful photo, thanks for sharing some WV Fall with us!

Glad to see all the little things that you celebrate this week, I will have to go check out that meme.

You’re most welcome. It was nice to have you stop by. Just wanted to clarify the Smoky’s are in Tennessee/North Carolina, but our temps are similar to WV, though. It’s a wee bit cooler there, but not by much. WV is our home state. We were born and raised there, then moved to Knoxville after we got married in 1979. Anywho, thanks for visiting!

Beautiful shot! I avoid the overly-strenuous hikes. No signs of fall here in S CA… still have the hotter than average temps with drought conditions. Enjoy your weekend!

    • Cathy Kennedy

Peter, although the trees are starting to change, our temperatures today made me think of late spring with temps around 80º and lots of sunshine. I’m looking forward cooler conditions. I hope y’all get some relief in Southern California.

Tonja, The Chimney Tops is an extremely busy trail in the Smoky’s. The parking area is very limited, so we see vehicles lining the side of the road during the peak seasons. It’s crazy!

I’ve hiked the Chimney Tops trail a few times, but that was many years ago back in the 70’s. I doubt that I’d make it very far now. Sure is nice to see the photo and think about being there.

Lee, I definitely don’t think I could hike the Chimney’s. I take that back, I can do it, but I don’t want to endure that much torture. Our first anniversary we hiked the over night trail at Fall Creek Falls and it’s super steep the last leg before we reached our campsite. So, steep the park built steps in the side of the mountain. DH had to push me up it and i had a 20-pound backpack. He was carrying more weight than me. I don’t know how he did it, but I was wiped out when we got to the top.
