Chats on a Farmhouse Porch

Chats on the Farmhouse Porch with Patrice

I’ve tried to wrap my brain around daily calorie intake for my age, height, & weight. When I enter my data into one of the calorie calculators, it outputs 1800 calories. Okay, I understand this is what I need to do, if I don’t want to lose weight. I re-key data making my weight 10 pounds less and I get the answer 1700 calories.

The problem I see with this is it’s too many calories period! Whenever I take the time to really watch what I’m eating and physically chart everything out then I can keep my calories between 1000-1200. This is easily 500 calories fewer than what’s recommended, which means within a week’s time I should be able to melt away at least one pound. The good thing about this is, I’m not hungry with the reduction in my diet.

My next weight in will be Sunday. I should see some loss on the scales, but I’m always troubled by this because in the past I’ve seen first hand all of my hard work – closely monitored diet and exercise to yield a big fat NOTHING. sigh

Oh well, I’m not going to worry with such things this morning. Instead, I’m going to happily skip off to visit Patrice for Chats on a farmhouse porch.

This week’s questions…

  1. What do you do when friends or family pull out a camera? Hide, pose, smile, pull out your own camera and take a photo of whatever they are photographing, or something else? It depends. If I’m presentable, then I may pose and smile real big or if I’m in one of my blah moods then I may cover my face insisting the person go away.
  2. Did you take any type of music lesson in elementary school? I was in band from grades 5-8. I played a flute. At some point, I took a little piano. I wish I had stuck out piano lessons now. Is it too late to learn how to play?
  3. What is your favorite color of cat (even if you aren’t a cat person)? I think I prefer a calico with three colors best. We had a calico years ago, but I’m allergic to cats and had to give her away. 🙁
  4. What did you have for dinner yesterday? Chilly dogs with cole slaw. I made slaw over the weekend and since this is something I don’t do too often I made sure to make hot dogs so I could have my favorite hot dog.
  5. Do your feet hit the floor running in the morning, or do you drag your self out of bed? From Monday-Friday, I get up with no problem. The alarm clock sounds and up I go, but the weekends are entirely different story. All I want to do is sleep, sleep, sleep!

Before you hop away, I want to call attention to these giveaways on my blog:

A Little Bird Told Me rubber art stamp set (ends June 26th)
Elfishki and the Giant Cake iPad interactive book (NO entries so far – ends June 19th)

Feel free to participate in these and I would love if you could retweet these posts. I’ll say, thank you  in advance for being such a honey of a friend! 🙂

I’m about to buy a scale myself.
Seems since my doc visit I’m putting on the pounds along with the pouch. I don’t like this.

Good luck with your weigh in Cathy.

    Interesting Q&A too.

One thing the Man did for me that I totally loved, was to get me a personal trainer/dietitian. I was struggling at 160 pounds & this is what she told me. I’ll use my 160 pounds as an example. Add a 0 to your weight (1600). That is how many calories I needed to maintain the 160 pounds. Now to lose weight drop 200 (1400) & that’s how many calories I needed per day to lose 1 pound a week. Now add 30 minutes 4 days a week of exercise ( I walked my daughter around the block in her stroller) & you can realistically lose another 1 pound per week. THE TYPE OF CALORIES DOES MATTER! We are HUGE sweet tea drinkers…when I cut down to 1 glass per day…I lost 3 pounds in a week. Once you reach your goal weight…Add a 0 to it. Mine was 120, so I need 1200 calories per day to maintain it. It took me 6 months to reach my goal. Good Luck & have a blessed day :o)

It’s never too late to take up anything! So take those piano lessons again- it’ll be fun! Hot dog?! Did you say hot dog? I want a hot dog!!! LOL Used to LOVE those things. Try livestrong.com for figuring out how many calories- it will ask you how much you want to lose each week and then tell you how many calories you need. I’m using myfitnesspal.com now but they don’t ask- they just make it for losing 2 lbs/week. I do know that I need to keep mine at 1200 for loss but am usually coming in at 1400 each day. It’s annoying as hell when that scale doesn’t move.
