Thursday Art Date

Celebrating the return to TAD

Today’s post was a hopeful idea that I decided on last week but really didn’t want to say anything beforehand just in case I didn’t deliver.   It’s been a long time since I’ve been on a date… an art date that is with Rain’s Kitchen and Garden and community.  I missed this more than I realized.  Last year was just crazy.  I am struggling still to regain normalcy in my blogging routine.  At least I’m holding it together for Mondays.  Now to get other things snapped back into place – waist, thighs, hips, … blog.  Ha-Ha!

Rain offers weekly drawing prompts but she encourages us to show whatever we’ve created.  While visiting her place last week, I noticed one her tutorial video on how to draw simple champagne glasses.  I didn’t have time to watch it but it did inspire me to sketch my own.

Celebrating the new year with the return to TADs!

This week’s prompt is aerial view. I took a quick look at Rain’s examples.  One particularly inspired the direction my creative brain went but I didn’t come off with an image that will give you the feeling that you’re looking down onto something.  After all, it’s art and isn’t art left to the artist’s interpretation? If you don’t mind, I’m sticking to that! 😉

Catching snowflakes
When you’re happy and it’s snowin’

The snow does make me happy, if I’m snuggly warm indoors watching it or dreaming about the white fluff through my illustrations.

Rain often reveals her creative endeavors from her kitchen.  Last week, after making a return visit, Nicole included in her post that she made a Taco Casserole.  My first thought was, “That looks like a Taco Bell’s Pizazz pizza!” Fueled with inspiration, I did a quick search for a copycat recipe and found one at The Country Cook.  I made home-made enchilada sauce following an old recipe I lifted on the net many years ago and turned some left over pintos into refried beans for the recipe.  My first attempt wasn’t too bad.

I think I have enough left over to build a couple more Taco pizzas for this weekend.  I might even make a spicy Mexican chicken casserole with green chile rice on the side.  Mexican cuisine is my favorite food ever! My plan for 2023 is to get back into the art groove.  I’m not sure how successful I will be at making all the weekly dates but I will try.  Just like blogging, sketching is for enjoyment and if I push myself beyond my capability then the fun goes away.

I’m going to wind down by giving thanks to the One who makes all things possible.  First thankful is continuing to get positive feed from ENT doctor.  The one remaining tube is hanging in there still in the perfect place more than four and a half years post-op.  Both ear drums, the right more so than the left, are collapsed but he says the ear drums are clear which is very good because hen the ear drum collapses then it can allow debris (dry skin) to collect in the caved in area and it eats away the small bones of the inner ear. That wouldn’t be a good thing.  Anywho, I’m still on the four month follow-up visit schedule which is an inconvenience but if it keeps me from loosing my hearing then I’ll keep doing it.

All day yesterday, I worked on a future post. I finished and clicked published but I didn’t realize I had the wrong publish date.  A few hours later I saw an email to my designated address announcing my “latest post”.  That freaks me out every time. Anyway,  I pulled it back to draft and changed it to go live in March, so if you subscribe to CAAC’s email updates and you can’t find it now that’s why.  I’m super sorry for the screw up!  I’ll be back Monday boogieing to whatever music moves me since there’s no there and I hope you’ll join the party.  Have a doodletastic day!

I`m a very great fan of Cool and the Gang. I was dancing at Teenager in the Disco… Lovely memories. Thank you for sharing.

    Your drawings are lovely.

So good to see your “doodletastic” art again and your happy words … always happy words from you, which I love. It is good that you still have your hearing and follow up is so important. I am glad you are keeping up with what the doctor ordered. I love your champagne glasses and awesome that you did them on your own. Your girl in the snow is soooo me, not her prettiness, but her love of the snow. We have only had one or two light dustings so far this year. I am looking forward to a real snow if we ever get it.
Now food is another matter … I too love Mexican food, though as I get older I am not so big on the spicy part. Taco anything would be my choice and your Taco Pizza puts Taco Bell to shame …. yummmm !
Welcome back, Cathy … it is wonderful to have your happy voice in the mix again. I will look forward to your future posts …
so glad you are doing well.

Nice art this week Cathy. I think champagne is good any time, but especially if you are getting back into blogging. I don’t know if I’ve been blog, but it is good to meet you. Especially if you make yummy foods like your taco casserole.

Hi Cathy, Thank you so much for your comment on our blog. Hubby and I will start making our way on trips to the Blue Ridge mountains sometime this year. He isn’t a fan of driving up mountains so we haven’t pushed it yet. Plus we have not wanted to be away from Tommy and Teaghan for very long since we moved here. So day trips here and there are the pattern. Plus we live near the beach and that has been our go to until we get it out of our system :-).

I love your post today! Your artwork and especially with the snow is beautiful and joyful. You have inspired me to do some painting today finally. I had an idea in mind for doing some circles with watercolor just to watch the paint swirl around and your New Year’s painting just gave me another idea :-). Thanks for the link to the tutorial. I will save that one or try it quickly. I have been on a creative streak these last two months finally. So it’s really nice meeting fellow creatives through these blogs and being inspired by their art and writing. And I’m trying to learn how to blog a little differently than in the past. and create a better workflow.
I am also a lover of Mexican food so today’s post is a double thankful day! I’ll have to try to work that into my new diet routine.
Looking forward to seeing more of your artwork on future posts! xo

      Brenda,

Good for you on getting back to your painting. If the mood hits, perhaps you’ll want to participate in Rain’s Thursday Art Dates. 🙂 Thanks for visiting, my dear!

    Hi Cathy!

I am very late today because I’ve been jammed up with family matters and errands. We hit the road early yesterday afternoon and drove to the airport to place Mrs. Shady’s retarded brother on his flight back to San Diego. We needed to arrive two hours before takeoff because he is a special needs person and Mrs. S. needed to accompany him to the gate, even though she was not flying with him. That required a special pass which took extra time because they spelled her name wrong on the first pass and she was turned away and needed to go back and get in line to have another pass created. His flight wasn’t until 5:30 pm and we hit major gridlock on the way home. There was an accident a few miles ahead of us and traffic was backed up for light years. We arrived home hours later than expected, and didn’t even have dinner until close to bedtime. This morning, before I even noticed that you had a new post running, we were out the door again to take the rental car back to Enterprise and then drive to another part of town to pick up our car at the body shop where it had been getting repaired the last couple of weeks. As you recall, someone smashed into the rear of our car while we were returning from that same airport the day we picked up her brother when he first arrived to visit us for the holidays. After we got our car this morning, Mrs. Shady tacked on other errands, and I am just now getting back online to catch up. Believe it or not, we have a full slate of errands coming up this afternoon that will involve driving Mrs. Shady’s son around because he doesn’t have a driver’s license, so this is my narrow window of time to visit you. I didn’t even have time yet to reply to your kind comment on my post today, but I hope to do so after submitting this comment on yours.

With my lengthy explanation out of the way, I will now wish you a Happy Thankful Thursday Art Date With Rain, dear friend!
I’ve been missing your artwork and am excited to see it today. The clinking champagne glasses look very realistic, Cathy. The happy juice is sloshing in the glasses just as it would if a couple were toasting the start of a new year at midnight on New Year’s Eve. I like it! I love the two drawings of the little girl celebrating the snow. I smiled when I saw that she had her tongue sticking out because I used to catch snowflakes in my mouth. The second image of the girl expressing glee as she takes a snow shower also reminds me of myself as a boy and the joy I felt whenever it snowed enough to cancel school the next day. Most adults outgrow their love of snow and regard it as strictly a nuisance. I’m glad you and I still get excited in a good way when the white stuff comes down.

I am very happy to know that your ears are doing AOK according to the doctor. It would be a disaster if you’d lose your hearing and no longer be able to enjoy music. I know how much it means to you.

That dish you made looks so yummy! Did DH eat “the whole enchilada”? 🙂 🙂 🙂

Monday is going to be another day when I will need to show up late here at CAAC for your 4M feature. That’s the morning I drive to the other end of town for my monthly visit to the infusion clinic. There’s always something standing in the way of our fun, don’t you agree?

Have a happy and Thankful Thursday, dear friend Cathy!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Tom,

DH could’ve eaten “the whole enchilada” literally but he ate only half. I’m happy you found time to check out my TAD comeback post. I agree with you, as we get age we loose that special feeling the way snow falling makes you feel when you’re little but honestly I still get that way a bit until my big girl side kicks in. 🙂 Snow means it’s gotta be cold enough to make any precipitation freeze. I’m not a fan of the cold. It’s fun to draw snowy, wintry scenes. Thanks for joining the fun, my friend!

  • Christine

Welcome back Cathy you were missed! Lovely art for the Art Date. The enchilada sauce looks delicious! Prayers for the healing of your ears. That Celebration song is a favourite of mine.
