A-Z Challenge

Cathy’s Pinup Girl #AtoZChallenge art sketch series (‘B’)

How’s the social distancing coming for y’all?  I hope everyone is safe and sound today. That’s the important thing. We’ll get through this crisis together.  While it’s not a good idea for us to mingle with one another, that doesn’t limit our interaction on the net and can enjoy each other’s company until our heart’s content.

Can you believe this is my 7th year to to participate in the annual A to Z Challenge blog fest? I can’t!  This month, I may roll two posts into one to make things less hectic for me and it’ll give you an idea of what I normally do on a daily basis in Blogosphere if you’re new here.

My vintage bath time beauty was inspired after an Etsy user,  Digital Diva design. I’m not sure if Digital Diva actually did the artwork but hers reminds me of some of the retro pin up posters I’ve seen by Gil Elvgren.  Per my warning, the gal in my pencil illustration is a bit revealing.

Be advised, this  post contains sensitive material and not recommended for a younger audience. Use discretion before preceding.SaveSave

However, when I uploaded my original to my computer to work on colorizing the image, I made a few changes while in Procreate.

Procreate sketch

I was thinking this morning for some reason about our kitty and how much she hated bath time which prompted me to check the net for images of cats taking bubble baths when I found Ten Pictures of Cats in Bubble Baths.

Rain’s Garden art prompt today is stencil art. This is a stretch but I’d say my Procreate redesign loosely qualifies for the weekly prompt and if not I hope she’ll forgive me.

You’ll find previous A2Z posts listed in my side menu all month, so you won’t miss a thing.  Don’t forget to leave your footprints (direct URL) in comments so I can find my way back to you easily. Continue to be safe and healthy, my friend. These are crazy times we’re living in. I hope you’ll come back again tomorrow for another illustration in Cathy’s Pinup Girls Art Sketch Series. Have a wonderful day!

Hi Cathy 🙂 You did a great job on your pinup taking a bath! That’s the kind of tub I’d love to have with the same view from the window!! 🙂

      Rain,

Yeah, I’d love to have a tub like this, too. My parents had one in my childhood home and I’d spend what seemed like forever soaking in that thing after a long day’s play outdoor. It was so relaxing!

Very creative! I particularly like the ambiguity in the execution of the sun – is it a picture frame or is it a window? Well done!
All the best for the Challenge!

Ahhhh What I wouldn’t give to be her in the tub. I haven’t had a nice bubble bath in ages. Sure made me envious for sure. So life like my friend. Your tune was putting me to sleep. I must be tired. Have a good evening my friend. Stay aware & cautious, but most of all stay healthy!!! HUGS

So I spotted a few differences between the two pics. Overall, you did a great job! Sorry to be late to comment – I spent my morning at wound care and then picking up groceries. And… due to the nature of my pressure sores, I’m not able to sit at my computer for very long. Can a girl catch a break? I think I could use a spa day!

  • Lisa

I’d love to have a bath like that! My grandmother did. I’d lounge in it daily! With bubbles! And a good book (if the libraries weren’t closed, I am re-reading whatever is in the house!). Nice relaxing scene, thanks!

      Binky,

A relaxing, soak in a hot tub of water sounds wonderful! I haven’t done this in years and I hope in our next house we have a tub like this for me to do just that!

  • SteampunkCow

Sweet! A pleasure to visit your site again, and how this bubble bath looks so relaxing. Great work. I’ll keep coming for more. Hugs. 😉

I love your pin up and wish the bubbles didn’t hide her boobies but, aside from that, the bubbles are well done. They are not easy to capture. I have not been out of the house since Saturday and will have my hubby deal with the groceries. This spa music put me to sleep while writing this!

      Birgit,

I delight in knowing that you liked my bubble bath beauty. In the pencil sketch I didn’t cover my pinup girl’s breast but when I did the Procreate redesign I filled in with bubbles. I thought I was only going to put up the digital illustration but then I decided to be bold and shared the original, as well. I was a wee bit afraid of getting negative reactions but so far I’ve gotten nothing but positive feedback. 🙂 I’m glad we won’t have to worry about trips to the store for a week or two. It’s hard to fathom what’s truly going on in the world because it hasn’t hit too close to home yet and I hope it doesn’t. A long time friend’s BIL died a few weeks ago from the virus but her sister tested negative for it. My niece and her family was in quarantine but I’m not sure if it was precautionary or she actually had it but she seems okay now. I think Monday they will be released from their lockdown. Take care and be well, my friend!

I’m sorry for the slow response but I was busy knitting yesterday. Nah…I’m just kidding. I can’t knit. I had to make a run to the hardware store. 🤣😂😄

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy “B” day to you, dear friend! You are right. Even though we need to practice social distancing, if you think about it, we are only inches away from each other on the opposite sides of our monitor screens. That virtual intimacy is a comforting thought. By now we would all benefit from soaking in a nice hot bubble bath, and your pinup girl is doing just that. From the serene look on her face, I’d say she is soaking her problems away. I like the clever use of the monogrammed towel for B day. The sketch reminds me of the Bobby Darin hit “Splish Splash (I was takin’ a bath).” I went over the the site with Ten Pictures of Cats in Bubble Baths. Surprisingly it looked like most of those kitties tolerated the water and bubbles very well. That luxury spa shown in the video looks inviting. Imagine how good it would feel to hang out in it for a couple of hours listening to that soothing mewsic.

Thanks for the morning smiles, dear friend Cathy, and have a safe and happy day!

      Tom,

I think staying socially active online is going to help many of us get through the pandemic. It’ll distract us from any fears mainly and help us to feel braver by sensing the calm of others which is what we need. One way to bring calm into our world is through mewsic and relaxation like a bubble bath or for me I enjoy doodling. I used ‘Splish Splash’ a few years ago for my A to Z “S” sketch if you recall of a baby enjoying bath time and decided against using the song again. But, I did come to mind while I pulled this post together. Thanks for joining me for the letter ‘B’, good ole buddy!
