CAAC presents The Heavy Horses

Awww Mondays hosted by Sandee from Comedy Plus.

How are you doing today?  Friday was very spring like, short sleeve weather.  I began to doubt our over night forecast, but I know how volatile the weather is this time of the year and then I was remembered how the Blizzard of ’93 came in following beautiful sunny, warm temperatures.  The weather man did miss his prediction.  Instead of the 3 inches forecasted, we got at least 8 inches.  Our power went off during the night but thankfully it was restored before we had get up.  It was a frigid, windy Saturday.  Old Man Winter had to strike one last time just to prove that he’s not done yet.

Thanks for making the Sunday Edition of Monday’s Music Moves Me a part of your day!

March special guest hostess

The theme this week is whatever music moves you.   I’m turning to my music folder stash to use some gems I’ve been saving for the right chance to spin them on my virtual turntable for  ya.  While sampling tunes on YouTube today’s artist came up as a recommendation, The Heavy Horses.  Have you heard of the band?  It turns out THH is a pseudonym for singer/songwriter Justin Mahoney to hide behind.  He writes and records songs about angels, outlaws, and murder.  His 2012 debut album, Murder Ballads & Other Love Songs I’m sharing today was nominated for the  Country Recording of the Year at the 2013 East Coast Music Awards and Folk Artist of the Year at the 2013 Music NL Awards.  I found myself rather drawn to Justin’s music style and I hope you enjoy it, too.  Click play, let the tunes fly in the background while you do other things.

If you liked what you heard with this playlist, then you may also enjoy his 2019 album, With Darkness in my Eyes.  This isn’t the kind of music I listen to but it has a certain feel that grabs me.  It definitely makes me think of the untamed, wild west. It’s kind of fun to get drawn into Justin’s music, which magically transforms me the dusty rugged streets of Tombstone. I can pretend I’m the angel trying to save a desperado like in an old movie.  I always wanted to be a starlet. 🤩

Just in case you missed the hundreds of text alerts and other random announcements, it’s official, we’re now back on Daylight Savings Time.

This is a music linky party.  Your co-hostess are MarieStacyAlana, and Me.   Every other week we have a suggested music theme (see weekly prompts here) to build your song set around and all participants share YouTube or Vimeo videos for our music enthusiasts.  Failure to meet this basic guideline puts your URL in danger of being removed or labeled – NO MUSIC.

THE PARTY BEGINS HERE!

For any reason the linky code does’t display properly, please leave your 4M direct link in comments.  Last week I experienced a temporary issue with it not working right and felt I needed to mention this should it happen again.

Marie wasn’t well again last week.  That’s why you didn’t see her.  I checked in with her yesterday and learned that the doctor is treating for possible Covid.  She’s not under the weather and can use all of our prayers.  I’ll let you know as I learn more about our girl!

I’ll be back with a new edition of Tickle Me Tuesday, but whatever follows next is undetermined. Regardless, you can count on one thing for sure and that’s the return of the Sunday edition of Monday’s Music Moves Me throughout this madness I’ve put myself in.  This is CAAC signing off, have a boogietastic week!  X💋X💋, Cathy

  1. I liked that Heavy Horses mewsic, CK. We didn’t know it yet, so this was another great introduction😸I don’t know on which madness you put yourself in to CK, but we sure hope you can come out of it soon🙏Healing Pawkisses for Mary, hope she feels better soon🙏Pawkisses for a Happy Week ahead🐾😽💞 On may way to the swingers now…MOL

  2. No fear of snow where I am and spring seems to be well on its way with summer close behind. If we could dispense with Daylight Savings Time all would be better.

  3. Our temps dipped into the 20s, and we had snow flurries whipping around the pink buds on the trees. Thankfully, the buds survived. Love the music, Cathy! Have a great week ahead! 😘

  4. We got some cold here again, too. It’s nice to put off air conditioner weather a little longer.

Happiness is in the little things, good music in the background can be one of those little things that makes for big happiness.

  5. Wow…just wow! I am going to be listening to more of The Heavy Horses in the days ahead. I may even purchase a vinyl, just to keep it old school. Really great sound.

  6. Thanks for hosting and updating on /Marie. Please let her know she is in my prayers. Have a wonderful week Cathy. Appreciate all that you do! 🙂

  8. Sorry you lost power, but glad you got it back quickly. Have a wonderful week. XO

  9. Hi, Cathy!

Happy Pawww-some 4M Monday on Sunday, dear friend! I hope you and DH are having a nice weekend.

Awww. I just wanna smooch that trio of kittens in a swing! They look warm and cozy as they begin another busy day of snoozing.

Yessum, I was thinking about you and other “northern” friends after what my stepson identified as a “bomb cyclone” struck the eastern states, transforming your region and others into a winter wonderland. I’m so sorry your power was knocked out again, but happy to know it was restored in a reasonable amount of time. We had ferocious squalls, high winds, and heavy downpours and the temperature quickly plummeted from the 80s to 40 degrees. That’s the reading outside at this moment. It could still go lower because we turned the clocks ahead last night and that gives the mercury a couple more hours to drop before the warming sun rises. We didn’t lose power and we needed the rain, so we’re happy, albeit a little chilly.

Yessum, indeed I do like Canadian artist Justin Mahoney aka The Heavy Horses. I hear touches of old school traditional country in these songs that tell stories from the point of view of a lonesome cowboy or an outlaw desperado. As you noted, Justin’s 2012 Murder Ballads set was followed in 2019 by his second album With Darkness In My Eyes. i clicked over and sampled those songs as well. Justin uses light reverb and his vocals are intimate. His voice gets inside your head and his tales do indeed transport us in our imagination to the old West. This isn’t dance mewsic. It’s mewsic for chillin’ in an easy chair or in a rocker on the front porch on a Sunday afternoon. That’s my impression of it. I like his style and appreciate the introduction!

Yessum, isn’t it fun to lose an hour of sleep overnight? (LOL) I’m surprised you didn’t post a cartoon with grouchy Maxine chiming in about it. Yessum, I will certainly keep friend Marie in my prayers as she continues to struggle with health concerns.

Have a happy Sunday and Monday, dear friend Cathy. I’ll be back to see you on TMT day!
