Battle of the Bands,  Monday's Music Moves Me

Boogie with the #4M crew on the dance floor to ‘your choice song picks’ and get the results of the ‘Under the Sea’ #BoTB showdown!

Welcome to 🎸Mondays Mewsic Moves Me on Sunday🎸 ! Before I step out on the dance floor with you this morning, let me tell ya how things went down in last week’s ‘Under the Sea’ BoTB Showdown between two new-to-me singers Jonathan Young and Alex Boye.

This ain’t any fish tale –  one artist clobbered the seaweed out of the other pretty bad.  Let’s me reach into the ballot box  🗳to begin the count…

Tom, Brian, & Amy voted for… Jonathan Young

Lee, Mimi, Debbie, Patrick, Marie, Jade, Stephen,  AngelsWhisper, & Mary went with… Alex Boyle

Didn’t I tell you it was a real beating?  The winner by a landslide is Alex Boye (9 to 3)!  Listen to this short playlist featuring Alex singing an old-time hymnal from my childhood and beloved favorite sung by my parents & grandparents in church, Wayfaring Stranger. As well as another old gospel hymn with a new twist Amazing Grace and finishing up with the introduction of Be Still, My Soul

Today’s 4M theme is ‘your choice song picks‘, so anything goes!  Feeling a bit in a pinch I looked through some archived YT vids I saved for times like this and found Selena ‘I Could Fall in Love’.  Although I knew Selena by name my ears weren’t exposed to the Queen of Tejano mewsic for years.

The singer died way before her time, IMO, at the hands of her manager, Saldívar, on March 31, 1995.  She was only 23. To remember the fallen vocal star, kindly join me on the dance floor with this Selena YT playlist discovery.

On behalf of the 4M (Marie, Stacy, Alana, Colette, & Kim) crew, we’re so glad you came to our party! 😘

🎶  This is a mewsic linky party, all other posts are subjected for removal or labeled – NO MUSIC!🎶

Keep those tunes playing, your body swaying, and I’ll be boogieing over to see you soon.  Please join me tomorrow in the A2Z Challenge letter ‘S‘ in my The Little Mermaid Art Sketch series! Have a sparkletastic day!  X💋X💋, Cathy

Like many others, I wasn’t familiar with Selena – more so after she was sadly killed way before her time. So sad! Love all your song choices, Cathy – thanks for the fun dance! 🙂

  • angelswhisper2011

Too young to die with so much talent. We remember that day when we heard of her passing 🙁
We hope you had a wonderful Easter time with lots of chicks and nipped eggs, CK🐤🌼🐤🐰
We have to skip this week’s episode, but will be back soon for another dance with you. Pawkisses for a wonderful day🐾😽💞

    • Cathy Kennedy

We’re sorry you weren’t able to hit the dance floor this week but we understand. We all have lives beyond Blogosphere that needs attention. I hope all is well. Yes, we had a nice Easter and fortunate to spend the day with our son. It’s difficult to get with all of our kids when they all lived in town and now that the middle kiddie lives in Maine…well, I don’t need to tell you that decreases the odds drastically of the whole family being together at one time.

  • Stephen T. McCarthy

I hear ya, CATHY! I don’t have anything but BOTB blowouts anymore. But as long as they’re not shutouts, I can live with it.

I hope you had a nice Easter. Mine was nice. I went for a long walk in the hills above my town – just me and my thoughts about God and Christ. I read The Bible from cover to cover every year (I’ve read God’s Book completely about 24 times, and some sections, like “The Gospels” and 1st John many more times than that), so I never feel a need to go to a church to hear a minister or pastor telling me things I’ve read for myself and seriously contemplated.

But when I do want to hear a sermon, I go to YouTube and listen to one of the recorded sermons of Adrian Rogers. That guy really had a preaching gift from God. Have you seen / heard any Adrian Rogers sermons? I think you’d like him. I think ANY Christian would like him.

Bless And Be Blessed, My Friend!

      Stephen,

Shutouts aren’t fun and I’m dealing with the blowouts. I guess they are better of the two, aren’t they?

We had a nice Easter. Organized religion isn’t my cup of tea. ‘The church’ has its corruption with each thing its way is the best instead of God’s way. Like you, I don’t need an educated man of the cloth to tell me what I already know or what God places in my heart. Between DH and my daddy’s spiritual guidance, I feel like I can get reassurance when needed or additional direction. I’m impressed that you’ve read the Bible 24 times. I have not even done it once but maybe before my number is called in life I’ll finish it. I have listened to Adrian Rogers in the past and what I’ve heard I like. I will check him out on YT. James Dobson is good, too. I think you’ve shared some of his podcasts in the past, haven’t you? Or, am I thinking of another spiritual leader that you like? Well…I appreciate you stopping in to see how this battle went down. I’m heading over to check out yours now. 🙂

I was not exposed to Selena’s music until I saw the movie, but of course read about the murder when it happened. She was definitely taken way too soon – beautiful Selena with her beautiful voice. In 1999 I got to hang out with her husband/widower when his band played in Memphis. They were all so nice. Chris was also very talented and I know his band did well, but I hoped they would eventually be bigger.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Kim,

Whoa, that’s cool that you spent time with Selena’s widower. I don’t remember reading that she was married at the time of her death but I did gloss over a lot of the Wiki content because I was short on time. A few others mentioned the movie based on her life starring JLo is good. I don’t know that I would like because of generally those types of films no matter how good they are do not appeal to me. Incidentally, I hopped over to your place just now. Your comments feature isn’t working so I am not able to leave a message. Technology…you can’t live with it; you can’t live without it! What a pickle we find ourselves in, huh? Thanks for stopping by to boogie with me.

  • Birgit

Hope your Easter was a good one and love the cute seal. Not surprised by the BOTB and still enjoyed it despite the big voting to the one side. I did watch the Selena movie and J-Lo was excellent in the role. I never heard of her until she died and felt so sad as she was so young and talented. It shows the dark side of being a celebrity.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Birgit,

I barely remember Selena but I can’t say that I knew her mewsic. By that time, I wasn’t listening to the radio much unless I was in the car. It goes to show you don’t know what a person is capable of doing and sadly these sorts of acts are done against a person of someone they know and trust. That blows my mind. How sad. Thanks for sharing the mewsic.

  • DrillerAA

Like most folks, I had heard of Selena but never really listened to any of her music. Very nice selections here from a talent taken away too soon.

  • Debbie D.

Happy Easter, Cathy! Your blowout was even worse than mine.:) Oh well, better luck next time. Selena had a beautiful voice and her premature death was such a tragedy! Did you see the bio pic starring Jennifer Lopez? It was her first major movie role and she did a great job with it. Have a good week!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Debbie,

No, I never did see the film with JLo portraying Selena. It’s so sad that this young woman was murdered. I hate hearing about stuff like this, too. Yep, my battle was a big blowout but at least it wasn’t a shut out. Thanks for visiting!

  • Arlee Bird

I could have told you the outcome. Oh wait, I guess I did in a way and then you told me. From the comments on that post it seemed like a lot of us agreed about a certain authenticity in the Boye version.

Did you watch American Idol’s Disney show? I just finished watching it and I thought most of the song presentations were pretty good.

      Lee,

Honestly, I didn’t think this showdown would go down this badly initially but after the tie was broken it soon became quite clear who was going to win it. We are behind on the AI episodes since we’re watching the show on streaming. We’re finishing up the contestant/celebrity duets. I’ll be looking forward to these budding artists’ Disney cover presentation. Thanks for visiting!

  • 15andmeowing

Selena was so talented. So sad her life was cut short by a crazy lady. Happy Easter!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Ellen,

It’s always tragic when someone so young is taken from this life at the hands of another. What a senseless act of violence! The evil of others is heartbreaking.

  • Alana Mautone (@RamblinGarden)

A wonderful post because you introduced me to two great artists – Alex Boye (loved the Wayfaring Stranger video, both in the music and the production values) and Selena. I had heard of Selena but don’t think I ever heard her mewsic, and I was absolutely blown away by her disco medley (as a disco fan). I am so surprised I never had heard anything by her before because her talent is so evident – and she died so young and so tragically. Have a good week, Cathy.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Alana,

I’m like you, I heard of Selena but never heard much of her mewsic. So, this was a nice discovery in recent months. Thanks for sharing the dance floor with me, my friend!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      John,

I barely remember hearing the news of Selena’s death. Our youngest was less than two months from his first birth. My son will be 25 this year, so yes, Selena has been gone for a long time. She was so young! Thanks for joining me on the dance floor, my friend!

  • Sandee

I knew Alex was going to win.

Love both videos today. Selena was so very young indeed. What a voice she had.

Aw, love your Awww Mondays contribution. So cute. Thank you for joining in.

Have a fabulous day and week ahead. Happy Easter my friend. Hugs and love. ♥

  • Thomas Anderson

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy Easter to you and your family, dear friend!

Seems like the only thing my BOTB vote is good for this year is to prevent a shutout. 🙂 Few other ears have matched mine in recent battles. I noticed you stopped revealing which artist you voted for in your battles. Why is that? I ask because I thought that was part of the game and I am always curious to know about your taste. I listened to the Alex Boye playlist and enjoyed “Wayfaring Stranger.” It is only the reggae sound on some of his recordings that I do not like as well.

I well remember Selena, the Queen of Tejano, and how J-Lo got her big break portraying the slain singing star in the film bio. Her murder was an incalculable loss to music.

Once again, happy Easter, dear friend Cathy. I will be back tomorrow to join you in the home stretch of this year’s A to Z Challenge!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Tom,

I’m glad you kept my battle from being a shutout. I decided a while back to step down from including my favorite pick because I always pick what I consider the best two artists in my search and then leave it to my readers to crown the winner. I hear redeeming qualities in both singers, liking both arrangements and vocals. If I narrowed it down to just one I’m not sure how I’d go in this one because I really enjoyed them both. It would’ve been a hard pick for me. I hope you and Mrs. Shady had a lovely Easter. Thanks for joining me yesterday, my friend. Have a blessed week!

  • aisasami

Happy Easter, Cathy! We don’t celebrate Easter here in Japan as Japan is more about shintoism. I had an audition (which I sucked at it because my singing is so horrible) and I am having bad allergy attacks.

I have been a fan of Selena since I was little. I love “Dreaming of You”. She died too young but her legacy has influenced the music industry and my generation (and future ones too).

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Amy,

Thanks for hitting the dance floor with and for remembering the young Selena. I’m sorry your allergies are still bothering you. Hopefully, you’ll be free of this bother soon. Have a boogietastic week!
