Battle of the Bands

A Twisted Christmas #BoTB Showdown + Friday Fun Stuff Mashup #humor #CTST #fillins

Merry Christmas, Kittens & Dawgs! Can you believe it’s that time of the year again? Not me! I debated whether to pull together a post today but I thought why not. It’ll be great fun to roll together some Friday Fun Stuff with some sillies and a whole lot more including a funny BoTB showdown!

Today’s battle I’m using two different Bob Rivers songs and if you’re familiar with the songwriter then you know he adds a twist to classics that sure to make you smile or laugh out loud.

Ok, here’s the drill. Voting is open to everyone visiting. There is NO wrong vote, except if you DON’T vote. You can start by telling me in comments which songs gets your vote “Carol of the Bartenders” or “Police Stop My Car” and why (optional). If you enjoyed this battle, then I invite you to visit the official manager of BoTB, Stephen for a complete list of BoTBers.

Today, I’m playing alone with Lexa and her hostess in Celebrate The Small Things.

I’m celebrating the determination DD#2 shows in keeping us in her life. Sunday, she and DSIL Facetimed with us from a view overlooking Camden, Maine from Mt. Battie. It was gorgeous. The sun was setting as we talked, so we had to cut it short so they could hike back to the car while they had some light. Ain’t technology cool?

I’m celebrating having lunch with DD#1 on Monday. We had a lovely time. I hope we can do that again before the weather gets too cool, as I have to walk to meet up with her. Thankfully, she lives about a mile and a half from us, so it’s not a bad walk then there are some places near her we can grab something to eat. 🙂

I’m celebrating getting my chocolate (both milk and white chocolate) peanut butter balls (also called ‘Buckeyes’) and dark chocolate covered cherries made this week. DH says they are some of the best I’ve made, too. Yay, me!

I’m celebrating every day with Christmas mewsic. Yes, I’m beginning early but anytime I do anything Christmasy, I love to listen to mewsic.

I’m celebrating getting my handstamped Christmas cards off to a good start. I’ve nearly completed six. I am only sending these to family. I used to do them for everyone but poor returns forced me to scale back, but I enjoy doing what I do nonetheless.

What are you celebrating?

Switching gears, I’m rounding things out with these Friendly Fill-Ins hosted by the lovely, Annie and Ellen!

  1. I can’t believe Monroe Salt Works Pottery is still sold. More accurately, MSW Pottery went out of business 10-years ago. We discovered them while vacationing in Maine in 2004 and bought a bunch of their mugs. Luckily I found Peasley Pottery last fall online and the artist, Nancy, does a great job. We got two of her moose mugs for DD#2 and her husband last Christmas which they love!
  2. I have nothing on Craigslist.
  3. Going into December, the weather outside is NOT frightful. Seriously, we’re having some mild temps but that’s supposed to change next week and I’m not looking forward to that!
  4. My current weakness is homemade candy. I’m trying to not sample it as I make it but I cave every time. I really have to stop that!

DH was supposed to work but he had a floating holiday to use before mid-December, so he elected to take it today. Naturally, you won’t find me in Blogosphere. We have some fun planned but I’ll be by to see you soon. Mark your calender to join me next week for more Friday Fun Stuff including the results of this BoTB showdown! Also, don’t forget to hit the dance floor with me for “All Things Christmas” on Monday’s Mewsic Moves Me! 😉

Good fill-ins, Cathy. I have never made candy. The mild weather is so odd. Last Christmas was mild, too. Funny stuff here! I am sorry that I am so late. There were some unplanned things over the weekend. HUGS!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Annie,

The mild weather isn’t too unusual for us but it’s expected to cool off 20º below normal in the next few days. I’m not looking forward to our forecast for the next 2-weeks, either. 🙂 No worries with the delayed visit, my friend. Have a good week!

  • messymimi

Had to come back when i had time and read your fill-ins and vote. That first one is so funny! The Carol of the Bartenders gets my vote.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Mimi,

No worries, just glad you found time to visit & vote. 😉 Oh good golly, now my battle is evened up again! Who’d thought this race would be this tight? Thanks for joining in the fun, my friend!

Hello! I am back and listening to your BOTB. They are funny and thought provoking and true! I have to say I like the second one with the great song, Feliz Navidad. I thought it quite funny especially the reference to the donuts and cops.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Birgit,

I’m glad you came back to vote in this round of BoTB. You pushed “Police Stop My Car” into the lead but for how long? Thanks for joining the fun, my friend!

I could see my kids switching names on the computer like that. Sounds like you have a lot to do and celebrate. Thanks to skype, my husband is able to keep wonderful contact with his parents in Europe. It’s an amazing thing and a blessing.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Tonja,

Technology definitely bridges the gap of here and there allowing us to stay close to those we love. I’m thankful to live in such modern times.:)

  • 15andmeowing

Thank you for participating in the fill-ins, great answers. Homemade candy would be tempting to taste test 🙂 Have a great weekend!

    HiYa, CATHY!
I don’t believe I ever heard of Bob Rivers before, but I really liked BOTH of these Christmas satires!

I think POLICE STOP MY CAR made me laugh a bit more, so I’m gonna send my vote there. This was a really fun BOTB. Good job!

    Guess I’m off now to go listen to SANTA CLAUS AND HIS OLD LADY — a Cheech y Chong Christmas tradition for me. [:^)}

      Stephen,

This battle is crazy tight, you just evened the playing ground. I hope this doesn’t end up being a tie with my vote deciding who wins. Thanks for playing along. I’ll hop over to check out your battle in a few!

All three video were entertaining. Thank you.

Oh, way… This requires a vote, doesn’t it?

The one about Bartenders Caroling, I believe, is my favorite.

    Happy TGIF, Cathy!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Myke,

I’m delighted you stopped by to vote in my December 1st BoTB. It’s hard to remember that you gotta make a choice on these entertaining songs but I’m glad you didn’t forget in the end and cast yours giving “Carols of the Bartenders” one up! See ya soon!!

These were both hilarious tunes. I see where “Police Stop My Car” is currently in the lead, but honestly “Carol of the Bartenders” had me laughing and singing along, so that one gets my vote here. Funny Christmas songs just make the holiday merrier, don’t they? Time to bring “It’s A Spike Jones Christmas” out of mothballs…

    • Cathy Kennedy

      John,

I like both songs. It’s gonna be fun to see how this battle goes down. Usually when I think of twisted Christmas carols “Grandma Got Ran Over By a Reindeer” always comes to mind. 🙂

I love Bob Rivers! I have four or five of his twisted Christmas CDs. So much to listen to! Of these two that you presented, I’m going to vote for Police Stop My Car.

    Great post!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Mary,

You’re a real Rivers fan! Everything I’ve ever heard has made me laugh. 🙂 Thanks for playing along in this round of BoTB, my friend. I’ll hop by to see you next!

      Sandee,

I think I discovered them last year but like so many groups I forget about them until I’m poking around YouTube. “The Chrismtas Can-Can” is a lot of fun. They have exceptional talent by today’s standards. Thanks for dropping in. Now, to play the catch up game starting with you next! 😉

  • Thomas Anderson

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy December to you, dear friend! I wish I could have voted for “The Christmas Can-Can” because that was a very clever and energetic performance by Straight No Chaser. In your actual contest, I prefer the first Bob Rivers creation “Carol of the Bartenders” because I like the melody of the Christmas carol upon which it is based and the inventive lyrics. Both songs should sober us up to the fact that drinking and driving don’t mix. This holiday season if you drink – don’t drive. It is sound advice to follow all year long. Give my vote to “Carol of the Bartenders.”

I am happy to know you connected with your daughter and son-in-law via FaceTime and got a panoramic view of their community in Maine. Did you catch a glimpse of Duke Crocker’s boat? 🙂 It is also nice to learn that you hooked up with your other daughter for lunch and that your sweet toothed hubby likes the holiday treats you made.

Have a wonderful weekend, dear friend Cathy!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Tom,

It’s good to see you here! This weekend, I’ve been away from Blogosphere spending it with DH. I have a few minutes to spend on responding to comments this morning. I really wanted to use “The Christmas Can-Can” as part of my battle but since I didn’t I still wanted to share it in this post. It’s really a fun song!

I’m sure DD#2 isn’t looking for Duke Crocker or the rest of the Haven characters in Maine. In fact, I’m not sure that she’s watched the series yet even though we’ve mentioned it to her. She seemed interested but her TV viewing is limited with her crazy schedule while she lived here. I’m not sure what it’ll be like once she finds work there. She’s been in a hold pattern for more than a month now. I think she’ll begin looking for a job now that things have settled. I love technology and how it keeps us close! It’s always a nice treat when I can see my children. I wish it were more often but I’ll take what I can get. 🙂

Thanks for voting in this round and for the reminder to all to be responsible this holiday season to not drink and drive. I’ll see you at your place soon!

I can’t argue with the message of “Don’t Drink and Drive”. The song started with promise but then it started to seem really long–much longer than the timer said it was.

The instrumental backing helped on the second one. The catchy ditty nabbed me right away and the lyrics made me laugh.

I’m going to vote for “Police Stop My Car”.

      Lee,

I wish I had I thought to include the motto “Don’t drink and drive” in this battle, instead I got swept up in the laughs. I’m glad that Tom saw this as an opportunity to encourage others to be responsible, though.

Thanks for joining the fun this round. I have your vote recorded.
