Monday's Music Moves Me

A Special January Song Playlist

Good morning, Kittens and Dawgs! It’s fabulous to see you! How was your holiday season?  I can’t believe it’s now all behind us as we look toward a new year.  I cannot keep or even start resolutions so I’m not even going to go there.  I do know what I hope to accomplish but whether I do or don’t I’m not gonna beat myself up over it.  Are you ready to groove to some mewsic?

My brother-in-law’s wife, Susan, celebrates her birthday this week and a few days after that, they celebrate their wedding anniversary.  Today’s ‘your choice‘ song picks inspiration comes from these two special occasions in which I used source material from playback.fm Top 100 Songs (1955)  & Top 100 Songs (1972 charts.

I decided to use Bill Haley & His Comets primarily for my playlist because one of Susan’s passions is star gazing and this band had four songs from the year she was born (1955) – Rock Around The Clock, Rock a Beatin’ Boogie, Razzle Dazzle, & Mambo Rock.  I finished up with only one song from 1972, Bobby Vinton Sealed With A Kiss dedicated to her wedding anniversary year.

Fun facts about Susan…she’s an avid cat lover, a pastor’s daughter, a number-cruncher, list-maker, biker-chick, pianist, NASCAR fan, environmentalist, stargazer, and gutartist.

Keep those tunes playing, your body swaying, and I’ll be boogieing over to see you soon. Have a sparkletastic day!  X💋X💋,  Cathy

So sorry I didn’t make it Monday to say a few words here, but I therapy & I was pooped & I really didn’t feel all that well. The last few days were just about the same. Anyway, therapist said to hold off until after my shot on the 24th so we’re going to pick up on therapy about 4 days after my shot & we’ll start up again. Anyway, here I am. Your tune here Bill Haley & Rock around the Clock.. believe it or not I still have a tiny lil’ record I recorded with my mom when I was about five I think singing this song in one of those do it yourself record a record booth & singing “Rock around the Clock”! hahahaha Isn’t that a hoot? Anyway, thank you for your understanding my friend! HUGS…. And thank you once again for everything!

      Marie,

I’m sorry you’re not feeling so well but your body is going through a lot right now. Hopefully, after you get your shot on the 24th you’ll get a bit of relief and can resume PT. Ahhh, that’s sweet that your mother had a recording made of you singing ‘Rock Around the Clock’. I don’t remember these record booths that you referred to. I guess these things went away by the time I was a little girl. Take it easy and no worries here, my dear. All is good, so don’t fret if you can’t get over to boogie or anything else. I know you’ll be back when you’re good as new again. xx

Bill Haley was a classic! And I like Bobby’s take on “Sealed With A Kiss,” though I think the Brian Hyland version (the original) is the definitive one. Can you figure out why the person who made the video chose The Everly Brothers as the image to go with the song? Good set!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      John,

I remember Brian Hyland’s “SWAK” original. Now, I’m confused as to which one heard growing up mostly. I definitely like Hyland over Bobby Vinton’s cover. My memory isn’t what it used to be not that it was anything wonderful and I have no clue why the creator of this clip used The Everly Brothers. I didn’t even notice that goof! lol

Awww, on all those adorable babies. They were all so cute. I think I liked all those pandas and the bunny with the backpack the best.

Love that video. Haven’t heard that one in a very long time.

Your blog is such a cosy little place, Cathy. So glad to have met you. <3

Have a fabulous new week! xo

Happy Birthday, Susan… Some spirited music here, for the occasion. Now I want to see a Season One episode of the television program, “Happy Days.”

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Myke,

“Happy Days” is a fun old show. I loved watching that when I was younger. They just don’t make programs like that anymore. Did you hear the mews that Penny Marshall passed away last month? I liked the “Laverne and Shirley” show, too. The 50s produced some lively, infectious tunes that you just couldn’t help to boogie to. I’m glad you enjoyed my playlist honoring Susan on her birthday as well as her & my BIL’s anniversary.

      Mimi,

Thanks! I sent bday wishes to Susan over the weekend and she mentioned having a nice one, as well looking forward to celebrating their 46th wedding anniversary. That’s just wonderful!

      Jacqui,

January is a cold month. We’re slated to get some really cool temperatures by this Sunday which I am not looking forward to at all. Winter seems to linger so long before spring’s arrival and even then the coldness can stay around a bit longer than desired. It’ll be nice when things warm up again.

  • Thomas Anderson

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy 4M Monday on Sunday, dear friend! 🙂

Those baby animals stole my heart! Thanks for posting that video. I already shared it with other friends.

I was age 5 when Susan was born, and already down in the basement listening to these records by Bill Haley & His Comets on my tiny tinny turntable. I’m not sure if my parents bought those 45s or if it was my big brother, but I dug that driving beat. “Rock Around The Clock” was a phenomenal hit and the band’s subsequent singles kept teens jitterbugging throughout the 50s. I don’t think I ever heard Bobby Vinton’s 1972 cover of “Sealed With A Kiss,” but he does a nice job with the song. “Sealed With A Kiss” was originally recorded in 1959 by The Four Voices and became a hit when covered by Brian Hyland in 1961. Several other artists have recorded the song including Gary Lewis & The Playboys, Bobby Vee, Shelley Fabares and Spanky And Our Gang. I am sure Susan will appreciate your song selections as she celebrates her birthday and her anniversary this week.

Thank you for the mewsic and memories this morning, dear friend Cathy, and have a tunetastic week ahead!
