Monday's Music Moves Me

A little testosterone to rock your Monday

The 4M 200th-week celebration is nearing an end, if you haven’t entered our contest then you have a few days yet to get your entries in. Join us now on the dance floor. This week’s theme is “male rock n’ roll or country artist favorites“.

Quickly…without peeking…what song comes to mind when you think Don Henley?

All She Wants To Do Is Dance

Maybe, All She Wants TO Do Is Dance popped in your head right off the back, but if not no worries. Henley, the former lead singer for the Eagles, has some fabulous songs ~ The Boys of Summer, New York Minute, Sunset Grill, and The End of the Innocence to name just a few.

Let’s get this party started with a little testosterone to rock your Monday!

You Are So Beautiful

You Are So Beautiful made me an instant fan of Joe Cocker. His gritty, bluesy sound captured my ear and maybe…my heart when I was a teenager. Through the years, he produced too many hits to narrow down to just one. However, this tune always puts me in the mood to dance, slow dance that is.

Blinded at birth or shortly after, this next artist signed a contract with Motown at the age of 11 and has been on the roller coaster ride to fame ever since. I think he has had more ups than downs, though. To name just a few of my favorites: My Cherie Amour, Superstition, Part Time Lover, and I Just Called To Say I Love You. Going back to his earlier musical roots, I decided to share his Motown hit from 1970.

Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours)

Like many artists, my next one is no different. In 1970 after winning the audition as the new drummer, this soloist got his start in a band, singing backup and even sung lead on two early pieces. Eventually, the group lost its lead singer and in the interim of finding a replacement, he filled the spot.

By the end of the 70s, Phil Collins became Genesis’ lead vocalist and at the start of a new decade established the group on the Billboard Charts with several highly successful albums. This positioned him for his mid 90s departure as a solo artist.

From the Tarzan soundtrack, one of Collins’ songs resonated sweetly with me. DH was working tirelessly away from home through the week and I missed him dearly. The words of the song manifested itself in my soul and to this day I get a bit teary listening to it.

You’ll Be In My Heart

With hit songs: Everything I Do I Do For You, Summer ’69, Heaven, and Cuts Like A Knife then it’s no surprise to find Bryan Adams among the roll call of my “favorite male singers”.
