2022 A-Z Challenge

A Brown Horse with a Star-forehead

It is day 8 of the A to Z Challenge.  In 2017, I sketched three horses on one page.  I decided to pick one of the images to colorize.

I brought to life my sketch to resemble a beautiful brown horse with a star forehead that once lived in Cades Cove.  He would frequently come up to the gate for people to feed and pet him.  He was really sweet, gentle creature.

An old photo of that brown horse in Cade Cove taken November 1989 with my late mother-in-law holding DD#1

Thanks for allowing me to be a part of your day.  I’m heading over to the A2Z headquarters to leave my calling card and maybe I’ll take notice to see who else came to the party.  I will close with a new-to-me song “Live Like Horses” by Elton John.  Don’t we all want to live free like horses? This is CAAC signing off, tomorrow is an off-day for this month’s challenge so I’m inviting you to hit the dance floor with me in the Sunday Edition of Monday’s Music Moves Me with whatever music moves you for freedom of music choice week!

I love horse pictures. It was one of the first things (and ONLY) things I ever learned how to draw. I love the Star in the forehead. I used to have a pony as a child and she had a colt we named Star for that very reason. This was a great memory my friend. As you can see I have not been keeping up on my visits like I should. As always though you are so very talented. Keep drawing and painting my friend.
    Cheers,

Nice to see that Cades Cove photo. It’s a site I’ve seen many times. Nice horse drawing. It’s like the horse is eying the viewer.

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy H-day, dear friend! I hope your week went well. I love your full color illustration of a “Brown Horse with a Star-forehead,” based on that horse you remember visiting along a pasture fence in Cades Cove all those years ago. The picture you took showing your first daughter and the horse exchanging gazes and “sizing each other up” from opposites sides of the fence is enchanting and metaphoric. It shows an innocent child and an innocent beast willing to give each other a chance, a fair shake, without judgement. In commenting on your post in 2017, which included sketches of three horses, I remarked that you drew them with kind and gentle eyes. I do indeed admire your ability to do reveal the true dignified nature of the horse without the need for adding whimsy or assigning a personality and attitude. He is simply a horse, living life the best he can, and I find that beautiful and comforting. We can learn a lot from our animal friends.

The horse song by Elton John is new to my ears this morning. The lyrics are inspiring:

    Someday we’ll live like horses
Free rein from your old iron fences
    There’s more ways than one
    To regain your senses
    Break out the stalls
    And we’ll live like horses

I thoroughly enjoyed your H-Day post, Cathy. Just a reminder that I have had a new post running for several days now. I don’t think you received an email notification about it. I hope you can stop by for a visit before it is bumped off the front page. As always, your friendship and support are greatly appreciated. I wish you and DH a safe and happy weekend, dear friend Cathy. I’ll be back tamale to hit the dance floor with you and listen to your 4M Monday on Sunday songs!
