Wild Wednesday – music, hodgepodge, and art

Posted on September 22, 2021

Howdy-hi, folks!  If you’ve been reading CAAC for awhile, then you might have followed my April 2020 A2Z Challenge Pinup Girl Art Sketch series.  I finally completed bringing the last of my pencil designs in living color but we’ll get to those in a few.  I’m starting things off first with today’s WSC song picks with Wednesday Hodgepodge responses to follow and I finish up with my Procreate pinup girls X, Y, & Z “in living color” redesigns. 😉

This week’s prompts are: A Song with Angel in the Title,
A Song with Dog In The Title, & A Song with Stand in the Title. Link up with Mary at JingleJangleJungle to join the WSC party!
WSC 9/22/21 playlist: 1. Kiss An Angel Good Mornin’ ~Charley Pride 2. Black Dog ~Led Zeppelin 3. Stand Up ~AC/DC

Here are my responses to Joyce’s Wednesday Hodgepodge questions this week.

1. It’s fall y’all! Officially that is and in the northern hemisphere only, so if you’re visiting from down under happy spring! Does it feel like fall where you live? Does it look like fall aka are the leaves beginning to change? What is your favorite fall color? Scent? Flavor?   It is feeling a little fallish for the first day of autumn.  Our over night lows are expected to dip into the 40s for the next couple of nights. Brr, that’s chilly for east Tennessee.  Honestly, I’m not sure that I have a favorite fall color.  I love all the hues and shades of the season.  My favorite all scent is cinnamon.  I tend to equate the scent with fall more so than winter.  I guess my favorite flavor is pumpkin spice.  I’m looking forward to having our first pumpkin spice latte this weekend.

2. What’s something you’re not? Tall.  That’s the first thing to come to mind.  I’m quite petite 5’2″.  I’m on the shorter side of average and on the few occasions I come across someone who’s shorter than me then I feel like a giant.  My mommy has shrunk over the years.  I don’t know how tall she is now but she has to be at least 2 to 3 inches shorter and that small of a difference really makes me feel like I’m towering over her.

3. Share a favorite quote related to fall and tell us why it’s a favorite.

4. Besides Thanksgiving, what’s your favorite fall meal? I suppose when I think of fall, I think of home-made chili.  In fact, I was just thinking about it and plan to make a big pot of it soon.

5. Share a favorite photo you took last fall?

Originally I shared this last November, unedited. This time, I adjusted the color giving the landscape more of an autumn effect. We’re far from looking like this which usually comes mid to late October. I have seen fall leaves hang on tree well into December. It’s the craziness thing if you ask me.

6. Insert your own random thought here.  I’m happy to finally bring to you the last of my 2020 Pinup Girl “in-living color” Art Sketch series with the last few letters in the alphabet.

From April 2020 A-Z Challenge my X pinup girl design which I should’ve titled “Xray Vision Not Needed”
Original Yawn Pinup Girl artwork
I prefer prayer but Zen (original drawing) moments regardless if spent on the mat or sitting on the sofa as long as you’re having quiet time to talk to the Master of the Universe. That’s a good way to begin one’s day.

I dedicated a new page with quick links to all of my Procreate illustrations in this series which published this morning and is ready for viewing.  😉  I’m doing the same thing with past A2Z art series which are a work in progress but I will notify you when a page publishes in future posts.  Thanks for patiently waiting for the 2020 April A2Z colorized illustration completion, my friends.

I’m linking with these Wordless Wednesday Communities… Sandee, Natasha,  Marie, & Wordless Wednesday!

Off and on over the years, I’ve hosted the linky party mid-week and over the years the participants have dwindled considerably.  I’ve gone from Wordless Wednesday to not-so Wordless Wednesday for photo enthusiasts and now I’ve opened the party for everyone to join regardless of topic.  Have you lost interest in this linky party and others?

Thanks for including me in your day.  I’ll be by your place soon to visit.  Tomorrow, I’ll be back with more artwork for TAD with Rain and I hope you’ll come by to check out my newest creative contribution.   Have a wild and wonderful day! X💋X💋, Cathy

Enjoy the first day of fall, my friends!

Great choices in the songs but not much of a country gal but i do love the Led Zeppelin. I don’t know the last song at all. I love your pin-ups which you have done so well. The first one reminds me of the actress, Wendie Malick, who played the eventual wife of Martin Crane in Frazier (the last 2 years). She was also in Hot In Cleveland. I love the rich reds of Autumn and love spiced cranberry smell along with cinnamon. I love that quote which struck me with reality that I am going through right now. I love your picture of fall. It has been raining the last couple of days but it still feels muggy outside.

Hi, Cathy! It’s quite fallish in my neck of the woods with temps in the 50s and I’m loving it! I see dips and dives in blogosphere and I attribute some of it to uneasy feelings about what’s going on in the world. Also, some blogging ideas just wear themselves out and perhaps need to be revamped. I’ve changed my weekly prompt ideas many times.

I just recently joined in Sandee’s Wordless Wednesday so can I add my same Wordless Wednesday link to your Wild Wednesday linky? 🍂 🍁

      Eugenia,

Absolutely join my Wild Wednesdays linky party! Other than you, Mary was the only one to say anything about the linky party. Maybe people don’t understand that it’s open to anyone wanting to generate a little traffic or just to share to be sharing. I think it’s rare for anyone to go to someone’s blog in comments unless there is a direct link. I was one step away from not doing it next week but I may give it one more shot. Thanks for letting me know how you feel. 🙂

I really like that quote. We think of Spring as a time for “cleaning” but you’re right that in Fall, we look to the trees as a lesson of letting go.

We actually had fall weather here today, it was so pretty and cool! Summer’s not really over, not for us, not for a while, but these tastes of the season to come are most welcome.

Love your post, your drawings, and all of it!

      Mimi,

Yesterday was a bit drizzly and this morning, we woke with temps just under 52º. It was a bit chilly. Over the next few nights, it’ll really feel like autumn is here. I put on an extra blanket on our bed to keep snuggly warm.

    Hey there Cathy!
Really enjoyed your picks for WSC. I wasn’t familiar with the AC/DC tune, so that was new for me. As for linkys… I’m about ready to give up on them myself. I know that more than just 2 people participate in mine, bur NEVER do they comment or share their links with me,. I don’t know if it’s because the linky is difficult for them, or if they simply don’t like me. Either way, it’s causing me to rethink this whole blogging thing…

      Mary,

Yeah, I hear you about linky. It’s a bit of an aggravation to go the extra step for a handful of people to link up. The only time it’s worth it is for 4M. The numbers there aren’t like they used to be in the early years but I think that’s because bloggers have fallen away from blogging. I’m not blogging for the numbers. I do this because it’s a nice way to stay in touch with like minded people. The blogging community is my immediate circle of friends these days. You said you wonder if linky is difficult. The only time I find it misbehaving is when you need to add a thumbnail to the link up. I’d rather have the simple one like you use and I (WW only). I’d like go to that for 4M but I’m not sure how others feel about that. What do you think? Does it matter or not? Just rethink the linky thing but don’t ever rethink the blogging thing. Trust me, you’d certainly be missed by your circle of friends. 😉

I like the way you color manipulated your fall photo. It’s almost time for the heavier foods of fall and winter (only two hours to fall!) and chili is a good one – so warm and satisfying. I liked both your sketches but especially the 2nd one (the woman waking up) and the third (woman doing yoga). I don’t do yoga but that looks like a wonderful stretch. I have to stretch in the morning just to get me going. As for linky participation going down, I don’t know, but it is definitely happening. Myself, I’m trying to limit online time and do more reading from physical books. I don’t always succeed!

      Alana,

I love soups/stews and chili when cold weather moves in. It is great comfort food for the changing seasons. I don’t do yoga, either. The closest I ever came was pilates. If we ever get into a bigger place where I have the floor room then I’d like to start pilates again and Zumba routines. Hopefully, I’ll get this back/leg issue taken care of before long. This has been a big hamper to what I feel like doing. I have my MRI follow-up on Tuesday. I’ll update asap. Thanks for stopping by!

Good morning, Cathy. I love your fall shot again this year. Most beautiful. When I think of fall I think of comfort food. Hubby and I are waiting until it cools down and we’re going to make a pot of Cheeseburger Chowder. That and some wonderful garlic bread will be our dinner for two nights. Delicious.

Love your sexy sketches. You’re so talented.

Love the cartoon. A great dance indeed.

I have always been a fan of Charlie Pride. He had one of the most recognizable voices in country Music and always seemed to have a smile for everyone. Your sketches are very well done. I have never been able to sketch humans well so I admire those who can get the proportions correct and bring the drawing to life. Nice work. Have a blessed Wednesday.

Charley Pride does have an unique voice. It was a happy rediscovery when I spotted him in my search. Drawing the human form is tricky and I still have miles to go. I admire those who do it well and I love portrait artists who can duplicate someone’s image. That’s really amazing. I’d love to be able to do that but I don’t think I have that gift. I’ll keep practicing at it when I can, though. Thanks for joining me!

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy Wild, Wacky and Almost Wordless Wednesday + First Day of Fall, dear friend!

Great job on your WSC picks! I haven’t heard anything by Charlie Pride in many years, and it was nice to listen to his old school country style on “Kiss An Angel Good Mornin’.” I’ve noticed that the songs of Led Zep continue to be covered in the 2020s by many artists around the world, including “Back Dog.” I enjoyed watching the mewsic video for AC/DC’S “Stand Up.” The band was at their rowdy best on stage and I like the choreographed dance performed by the girl in the audience. Best of all was the inclusion of an animated fly who goes bonkers after ingesting red hot chillies on a burger. I’m sure the artist in you appreciated those animated sequences.

    Here are my picks:

ANGEL SONG: “Angel On My Shoulder,” a song penned and waxed in 1960 by Hollywood, California, pop singer Shelby Flint. The single made a run at the top 20 in early 1961.

DOG SONG: “Watch The Dog (That Brings The Bone)” by highly respected R&B queen Inez Foxx. “Watch The Dog” was released in September, 1972, on the B side of “You Hurt Me For The Last Time” on the Stax Records subsidiary label Volt. Both sides of the single kill, but both songs missed the pop and R&B charts. It was another case of a record company struggling and about to go belly up, and unable to promote the great artists on its roster.

STAND SONG: “Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing in the Shadow?” by The Rolling Stones. The single reached the top 5 on Cash Box in November, 1966.

I enjoyed reading your answers to the Hodgepodge questions. You are lucky to be getting a cool down. We’re still sizzling down here. We had a whole day of soaking rain yesterday and last night and the moisture was welcome. You might only stand 5 feet two, but you keep yourself fit and nicely proportioned. Your body will thank you for the effort as years roll by. I love that quote about autumn! It feels good to let go, but too many people continue to cling, even when it is unhealthy, unrealistic and futile. I also love how you boosted the chroma level on that fall photo to bring out the warm brilliance of the season. Won’t be long now until fall is “in full bloom.”

The highlight of this and most of your posts is viewing your artwork, Cathy. I am thrilled to see your pinups return to CAAC In Living Color. My favorite is the multicolored drawing of the ponytailed redhead assuming the downward dog position on her yoga mat.

I am Curious as a Cathy to know if you are receiving email notifications about my new posts. Please let me know. FYI, I published the David Lynch post this morning if you’d care to check it out at some point. It will run 5 days. Have a wonderful Wednesday, dear friend Cathy!

      Tom,

You pitched three song titles for the WSC I do not recognize, so I’m heading over to YT right now to sample them to see if they ring a bell. BRB Shelby Flint sounds like an angel singing “Angel On My Shoulder”. It turns out I didn’t know the song but if my memory serves me correctly, you’ve feature Shelby on SPMM, am I right? Inez Foxx’s song is an introduction. I enjoyed listening to “Watch The Dog (That Brings The Bone)”. Although, I know the Stones by name I am not versed in their song history and your pick is also a new to my ears. I think my favorite pick of your three has to be Shelby Flint. I need to listen to more of her songs to see if she has the same angelic vocals. I really love that sound!

I’m delighted you enjoyed the last of my “in living color” pinup girls. I also appreciate your encouragement with your lovely comments. You’re such a dear friend. Thanks for making me apart of your Wednesday!
