Monday's Music Moves Me

The Best of Yazoo & Top 40 hits from 1957

Awww Mondays hosted by Sandee from Comedy Plus.

Hello, I’m so happy to see you today!  What brings you by?  If you’re a fellow A2Zer, then you’ll find my alpha post for the letter D, right here, but you don’t have to hustle off just yet, stay for a bit before you click away. 😉

How was your Easter weekend?  Ours was nice.  We got to see our son.  He needed to replace his brake line on the passenger side of his vehicle, so we met up with him.  We were there mostly to offer whatever help we could, but mostly it was a good opportunity to spend time with him.  I did get the honorary job of helping him to bleed his brakes.  He said with the his truck on a jack with me being the smallest one in the group that I got that task. lol  I remember doing this for DH many times years ago when we were first married.  Before I forget, I wanted to show you how the solid chocolate bunny turned out for our LA.

I purchased a candy mold from Etsy.  I melted Ghirardelli milk chocolate melting wafers per the instructions and filled both cavities then placed the candy mold in the freezer to harden the chocolate.  Once ready, I popped both pieces out of the mold, lined up, and bonded the two pieces along  the seams with some of the left over melted milk chocolate.  I used my finger to smooth the edge.  The softened chocolate will set up almost immediately so I had to work fast.  It wasn’t perfect but it didn’t turn out too bad for my first try.  I returned the solid chocolate bunny to the freezer.  I got the wild hare, pun intended, to make the big kids cherry nut cream filled chocolate Easter eggs.  I melted less than half a cup of Ghirardelli white chocolate melting wafers then added color to write Happy Easter on each egg. Blue for the boys and pink for the girls.

As you can see in the first photo, I got to thinking about LA’s chocolate bunny’s eyes so I used the melted white chocolate giving the bunny personality.  The pink ribbon was a nice finishing touch, too. 🙂  Now for the recipe as promised!

The flavor was good but the recipe needs some refinement.  Feel free to make changes to mine and let me know your outcome.

Last week was a push.  I didn’t get things done that I wanted so yesterday I did a catch up post containing my normal daily blogging content.  If you’re interested and have the time feel free to catch up with me.  😉

I just can’t believe it’s April.  Back in February while making my 4M rounds, Marie from Athena Cat Goddess was rounding out her alphabetic musicians with a Yazoo, “Only You”.  A song that sounded familiar but yet I don’t recall it.  This week’s Monday’s Mewsic Moves Me theme is your choice song picks and I thought it would be interesting to share with you a The Best of Yazoo YouTube playlist.

Tracks:  1. Only You 2. Ode to Boy 3. Nobody’s Diary 4. Midnight 5. Goodbye ’70s 6. Anyone 7. Don’t Go 8. Mr. Blue 9. Tuesday 10. Winter Kills 11. State Farm 12. Situation 13. Don’t Go (TNT Radio Mix) 14. Situation (Club 69 Future Funk Mix 15. Only You (1999 Mix)

I couldn’t figure out why this 80s band didn’t ring with me but after reading Wikipedia it became clear to me that their presence mainly stayed in the UK. A few of their songs released in North America to sit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and made Billboard 200 album chart in 1982. “Only You” peaked at # 67 and perhaps that’s why it sort of registers somewhere in my brain. The band broke up in 1983 but in 2008 did a reunion tour and then again reconnected in 2011 on stage.

This is a mewsic linky party. Every other week we have a suggested mewsic theme (see side menu) to build your song set around and all participants share YouTube or Vimeo videos for our mewsic enthusiasts.  Failure to meet this basic guideline puts your URL in danger of being removed or labeled – NO MUSIC.

Yesterday my mother celebrated her 76st birthday, so I’m signing off with a special playlist of Top  40 hits* from 1957.  The year my mother turned 13…oops, correction 12.  Math was never my favorite subject.   Happy Birthday, Mom!  I’ll be back again tomorrow joining in with the A2Z community.  Stop in for a peek at my latest Looney Tunes illustration.  Have a boogietastic week, folks.  X💋X💋, Cathy

Yaz. I knew three of these songs – Situation, Don’t Go, (both of these seemed to be remixes, not the versions i knew) and Only You. I enjoyed a couple of the new to me songs, too. It was a delightful playlist. So was the chocolate recipe, although I admit to wanting my chocolate premade. I’m lazy!

Your Easter bunny looks great as does the eggs but I would have wanted blue since that is my favourite colour:) Happy birthday to your mom for turning 29. 🙂 My hubby was born in 1957 and love all those songs. I enjoyed listening to YAZ…they are really great! I know “Don’t Go” very well and danced to that many times in the 1980s.

Awww on that little one and his feathered friend. So cute and I said Awww.

Oh the chocolate. You’re so talented.

I’ve never heard that video before. I like it though.

Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week. Love and hugs. ♥

The Aww Monday image is priceless. Sorry about my HTML inadequacies. Maybe I’ll get it figured out by next week.
What an awesome playlist from the infancy of rock ‘n roll. I have to admit, I always like Buddy Holly, but it is impossible to pick a favorite from this Mt. Rushmore of rock ‘n roll hall of fame super-stars. Have a blessed week.

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy Awww-some 4M Monday, dear friend! Seems like you and DH had a wonderful Easter. It’s nice that you had a chance to spend some quality time with your son and you were kind to devote part of your holiday helping him with his truck. I’ll better Little Angelina’s eyes popped when she saw that big chocolate bunny! Those choco Easter eggs, with blue icing for boys and pink for girls, look mighty yummy, too!

As you pointed out, the English synth-pop duo Yazoo aka Yaz enjoyed international success, but were more popular at home in the UK than they were stateside. Like you, I don’t remember them as well as other bands of the new wave/synth pop genre. I checked the peak chart positions of all their singles and found that they scored four chart-topping hits on the U.S. Dance chart but only two of their singles landed on the American mainstream Hot 100 pop chart and neither of them reached the top 50. I remember the music videos for “Don’t Go,” “Situation” and “Nobody’s Diary” being played on the Mid-Day and Afternoon Drive day part segments on the MTV station where I worked in the 80s. As is usually the case, I prefer the original studio recordings to the remixes you posted.

Happy birthday to your dear mother, Cathy! Turns out I am a lot closer to her age than to yours! 🙂 It was kind of you to post a set of songs from her adolescence in 1957, and I hope she tunes in and listens to them. I recognize each and every song and have used or will use them on my blog. As you know, I am detail oriented. When I saw the title of that Chuck Berry song posted on YouTube as “School Days” I knew it wasn’t the correct original title. A bit of quick research revealed that the official title of that single, released in March, 1957, is “School Day (Ring Ring Goes The Bell).”

This was a delightful 4M post, dear friend Cathy. Thank you very much for the mewsical entertainment. I’ll be “E-ing” your tamale on your A to Z feature!
