Monday's Music Moves Me

7 Crossover Artist Song Titles

Good morning, Kittens and Dawgs! How was your weekend?   By now, you may know I’m slowing things down for the summer.  I know things will clamp down with folks taking vacations, doing yard work, chauffeuring kids to summer sporting events, and lots of other outdoor activities.  Who am I stand in their way?  It sounds fabulously wonderful and that’s where you need to be or want to be then have fun.  This is a great time.  As for me, I have specific chores that I like to do when the weather warms up. The cold months leave me totally unmotivated but now I’m ready to get going.  Are you ready to groove to some mewsic?  This week’s theme is “Crossover Hit Songs” contributed by our newest co-host Alana who’s also this month’s honorary pick.   That means she gets the fun of picking the themes this month, excluding freebie weeks.  You’ll find an explanation in my side menu and while I’m unsure if all my selections quality, I came up with a mixture of country to rock and rock to country artists with these 7 Crossover Artist Song Titles.

These online articles 25 Best Country Pop Crossover Songs of All-Time & 21 Most Unexpected Rockers To Go Country provided today’s inspired playlist song choices.

  • The End of the World ~ Skeeter Davis
  • Rhinestone Cowboy ~ Glen Campbell
  • If You Love Me Let Me Know ~ Olivia Newton-John
  • We’re All Somebody From Somewhere ~ Steven Tyler
  • All I Ever Needed Bret Michaels
  • Help Me Make It Through the Night ~ Tina Turner
  • I Fall To Pieces ~ Cyndi Lauper

Now, join my fellow co-hosts: XmasDolly (Party Coordinator), Stacy, & Alana on the dance floor (ONLY link mewsic posts) below.   Colette stepped down temporary as co-host because of vision issues but she’s dancing along with us when she can but please continue those prayers.

To start your week off on a positive beat I’m keeping with McGuffy’s Reader ‘SPARKS’ of light, hope, and inspiration but she’s taking a bit of a hiatus. Have a sparkletastic day! 😉

Before you go, I’d like to invite you to cast your vote in June 1st BoTB.  Keep those tunes playing and your body swaying, I’ll see ya around the cyber block!

I’m with you – the motivation isn’t there during the winter months, but as soon as things warm up and the sun comes out, motivation returns! 🙂

GREAT song selections, Cathy! Some were introductions! 🙂 Thanks for the dance(s)! 🙂

  • greyzoned/angelsbark

    Hi Cathy,
I sure enjoyed Cyndi Lauper ‘s country version of Patsy Clune’s Classic “I Fall to Pieces”. I heard Patsy’s version oh so often growing up as my folks and my aunts and grandparents were al heavily into Country. My Aunt Judy, who had an incredible voice, could really belt out some Patsy Cline and Connie Francis! Cyndi did a really nice job with it.
I never heard any of Tina Turner’s country songs so that was neat to hear her do it.
I don’t know anything about Skeeter so not sure what she was before or after the song you presented here but I liked that specific song choic
The other songs we both had featured today.

You’re excited for the warm weather and I’m already cursing it. It was 103 the other day and I’m already sick of summer… and it’s not even really here yet…but it is, as far as I’m concerned. If I didn’t feel so stuck here with my house because I’ve put a ton of money into remodeling it just the way I want it, plus my business, I think I’d probably move back home (Niagara Falls/Buffalo, NY). I’m afraid it’s going to be a brutal summer. You’ll probably get sick of hearing me bitch about it. Haha
I’m already sick of bitching about it. I say the same thing every single time I come in the house now : “OMG It’s so effing hot out there!!” Nobody wants to hear it anymore. I need to just shut up already cuz it’s gonna be a loooong summer…

    See ya round the bend…
    XOXO

      Michele,

Wiki says Skeeter was a country artist who did crossover pop songs. I’m not excited about being out in the hot weather but it does allow me to get things indoors done easier. Our home doesn’t heat well and I’m always too cool in the winter so when I move things around then my joints or muscles don’t react well. That seems odd because I can use my elliptical without issues. I hope our next place is better insulated. You said you’d move if it weren’t for your remodeling investment, have you tried selling? I’d say right now is a good time to do. The economy is doing better and the housing market seems to be really shaking. I’ve already begun to bicker about the too hot & humid conditions. When it gets in the upper 80s then I’m like, “I’m ready for fall!”

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Marie,

Thanks for making time to dance with me. I know you are exhausted from your travels. How was the wedding? Have a pAwesome week, my friend!

  • Kimberly Robello

I haven’t heard Rhinestone Cowboy in years!

I was a big Olivia Newton John fan back in the day and used to listen to her songs over and over on our stereo. Even her unknown songs were good.

A lot of people don’t realize that Cyndi Lauper has a really nice voice. They can’t get past the image.

    Have a good week!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Kimberly,

I’ve always been a fan of ONJ, too. Cyndi Lauper has unique vocals and a lot of fun to watch. She’s a little odd but then, aren’t we all? I think she does a good job with the country tunes. Did you listen to her Detour album? I shared a link below in response to Debbie’s comment. I’m actually listening to it play in the background right now. 😉

  • Retirement Reflections

Hi, Cathy – I’ve stopped by from #AtoZChallenge Road Trip. I greatly admired your Challenge theme (doing double duty creating iPad Art and writing about it)! I also enjoyed your link up song for today — it’s currently playing in the background and is greatly mellowing my mood!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Donna,

It’s always a delight to meet someone new. I’m glad that you found me through the A2Z road trip link up. I have yet to commit some time to visit those on the sign-up but I hope to correct this soon. Thanks for sharing the dance floor with me! 😉

  • Melissa Lapierre

I love The End of the World! Help Me Make It Through the Night is one of my all-time favorites too, but the country versions 🙂 I’ll be posting tomorrow!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Melissa,

I’ve always liked “The End of the world”. It was reintroduced to me a few years back in the Mad Men series. That show always played the best oldies. Thanks for stopping by to dance with me.

  • John Holton

We’re the exact opposite: we come alive in winter and go into hibernation in summer.

Some great songs here. I always think of Olivia being country before pop, but I think it’s one of those chicken-egg things, and besides that, she could sing the telephione book and some of us would be enchanted. Tina Turner and Cyndi Lauper did all right with their covers.

    Off to deal with BoTB…

    • Cathy Kennedy

      John,

I don’t like being too active outdoors. Mainly it’s the indoor things like deep cleaning and organizing that I like doing when the weather warms up. When it’s colder my muscles and joints don’t seem to like to move a lot, except it doesn’t seem to bother me when I use my elliptical. I think I’m just crazy. I always think of Olivia Newton-John as a pop singer and I remember when she went country it seemed a little strange. So, which was she country or pop first?

  • Mary B

It seems that quite a few rockers took a stab at country music at one point. I had completely forgotten about Bret Michaels. and Tina Turner. Great list!

    ~Mary

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Mary,

Yep, more than I would’ve thought. The interesting thing is many do a pretty good job with the switcharoo even if it’s short-term. Thanks for dancing with me!

  • scr4pl80

Fun list of songs here, Cathy! I’ve been loving Mondays because I get a lot of great music to craft to! I just visit all of the M4 participants and listen from playlist to playlist. Thanks!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Janet,

I love hitting play and catching up with bloggers who stop by at the end of the previous week or over the weekend. Sometimes, I’ll listen the really long playlist the following day while I work on staying ahead with my posts or I’ll listen to the tunes while doing chores. I just love mewsic! Thanks for stopping in for a visit, dearie!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Cathy,

I’m not familiar with Soul Asylum. Now, you got me curious. I’m going to have to check that band out. With a name like that, I can imagine they are a heavy metal group. Am I right? Thanks for making time to dance with me!

  • Jacqui Murray

Good list. Rhinestone Cowboy–there’s a memory. And Cyndi Lauper–really? I remember seeing her as a recurring character on Bones, a weekly show. She was excellent. Who knew she could act besides sing?

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Jacqui,

I didn’t know Cyndi did any acting. I will have to check out Bones. I always liked David Boreanaz from the TV series Angel. I’m glad you came by to boogie with me!

  • Comedy Plus

Love your Spark. I do that already. I like me just fine.

I love coming here on Mondays and finding out what you’ve posted. Then the rest of the day there is music in my head. It’s a good thing.

Have a fabulous day filled with love, smiles and laughter. ♥

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Sandee,

I’m always glad you make a point to dance with me each Monday. It makes my day a bit more special. I hope the tunes that I leave playing in your head don’t drive you crazy. 🙂

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Ellen,

That’s what Google is for…you know to get you out of a tight jam when it comes to ideas. 🙂 No worries for sitting this one out, though. We’re always happy to have you on the dance floor whenever you want! 😉

  • Debbie D.

Hi Cathy; This is an interesting theme! I had no idea Cyndi Lauper recorded a country song. She sounds great! 😀 As did Brett Michaels and Steven Tyler. Tina seemed to be struggling a bit, singing more softly than usual. The first three songs were huge hits and I remember them well. Have a great week!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Hi Debbie,

Yep, Cyndi Lauper recorded not only a country song but a whole album Detour(2016). I wasn’t really impressed with Tina’s country attempt but I thought it was interesting considering she’s such a superstar! Thanks for popping by for a dance, my friend. Enjoy your week!

  • Alana Mautone (@RamblinGarden)

I’m surprised I didn’t find the Rolling Stones list you did with the “21 most unexpected rockers”. There are so many crossover artists that perhaps my theme should have been “artists that didn’t cross over”. And then there are all the rockers who have taken up singing standards – thank you for the list and the dance! (I’ll be hearing Rhinestone Cowboy in my head all day, now.)

  • Thomas Anderson

    Hi, Cathy!

Your Monday mewsic moved me, dear friend! The first three selections on your play list are familiar to me, major crossover hits from the country chart to the pop chart. The other recordings were new to my ears. It pleases me when a pop or rock artist crosses over to country and does a convincing job of it. In my opinion Cyndi Lauper’s cover of Patsy Cline’s country classic “I Fall To Pieces,” from Cyndi’s album Detour recorded in Nashville, is the best of the bunch. I notice that Cyndi also covers on that album Patsy’s “Walkin’ After Midnight,” Wanda Jackson’s “Funnel Of Love” (featured on SDMM) and “The End Of The World,” the Skeeter Davis hit you included in your song set. The biggest surprise here was the recording by Bret Michaels, former frontman of Poison, the glam metal band from my region of Pennsylvania that paid several visits to our studios while I was working at that MTV style station. I didn’t even know that Bret ventured into country music as a solo artist. My favorite selection this morning is “The End Of The World” by Skeeter Davis released during the last year of innocence in America – 1963. The scenes from that old movie mesh well with the song and I wish I knew which film it is. Do you?

Thank you very much for the mewsic and memories, dear friend Cathy, and have a great week!

  • Naila Moon

This one was tougher for me for some reason but I got it down anyway. Great tunes you picked.
I was not going to do a spark because she took hiatus but you inspired me. So, I am going back and spark-ling up my blog post. HA!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Michelle,

I had a bit of trouble with today’s theme, too. I hope I did it justice and if not hopefully, everyone will still enjoy the mewsic. 🙂 I’m glad that I inspired you to go back to add some “SPARKS” of encouragement for others in your post. 😉 Thanks for boogieing with me!
