A-Z Challenge

2019 The Little Mermaid #art sketch series ‘YAZZY’ #AtoZChallenge

First up, thanks for joining in today.  Are you looking here to dance with me? I moved my 4M post to Sundays. We’re in the home stretch of the 10th anniversary of the A to Z Challenge and if this your first visit here this morning or you’ve missed any previous posts then you click on ‘Post At A Glance’ calendar for any given day to see my share for the day.

In the Little Mermaid series, I could not come up with any ‘Y’ characters, which left me to extend my thinking process to the ocean.  The only thing I came up with is a tuna fish variety called Yellowfin.

I didn’t want to draw a realistic yellowfin, so I found a cartoon version to model my little guy.  What should I call him? Think. Think. Think.  How about Yazzy?  What did you expect, his name had to start with Y! 😆 I think he needs some cool shades. I am planning to do another illustration of Yazzy on my iPad at which time I will featuring him wearing a pair of sunglasses. 😎

Did you know there’s a mewsical group by the same name?  It’s true. I put it in Google’s search engine revealing this tidbit. Have you heard of ’em?  Here’s a mewsic sample to tickle your ears this morning.

I’m heading off to link up with other fellow AtoZers and you’re invited to come along.  For my fellow A2Zers, please leave a breadcrumb (direct post URL) in comments so I might find my way easily to you.  You’re invited to return tomorrow for another the next installment in my Little Mermaid Artsketch Series! X💋X💋, Cathy

      Birgit,

I thought so and would make a great addition to The Catfish Club Band…after I add his shades and maybe a mewsical instrument. 🙂

Yay for Yazzy! I like your creative thinking process. Waiting for the color version soon.
Also I really like the mewsical group Yazzy. I liked the lyrics and tune.

Yazzy, oh my goodness who comes up with these names. I’ll tell you what I’m going to have to think of a new subject for next years A to Z because these end letters are soooooooo hard. Z is next to impossible. Great job girlfriend… I’m lovin’ each one of yours. Big hugs

      Marie,

I gave Yazzy his name. 🙂 You did a good job with your ‘Y’ songs and for Z, I betcha you go with ZZ Top or the Zombies or how about zen mewsic? Whatever you come up with it’ll be great!

      Gail,

‘In Technicolor’ makes me think of when I was young to see old movies flash those words across the screen. Today, we think nothing of colorized films but there was a time when it was a big deal. 🙂 Your description paints inspiration in my head on how to make Yazzy in living color when I get around to vamping my pencil drawing. Thanks for visiting.

Oh yes! Yazzy with sunglasses will be ultra cool! He’ll be the cat’s meow. Wait. That’s not a good thing for a fish. LOL

      Trudy,

Oh yeah, ‘the cat’s meow’ wouldn’t be a good thing for Yazzy. But…he’ll look cool when I sketch some sunglasses on his face. 🙂

It’s get harder to do when you get to the end of the alphabet. You nailed it though.

Love the video. Hadn’t heard this before today.

Have a fabulous day and week, honey. Love and hugs. ♥

      Binky,

I’m sure you’d make Yazzy nervous. After all, he doesn’t know you as I know you. He’d be quaking in his fins afraid you’ll have him for lunch and I don’t mean as a guest, see what I mean? Thanks for visiting.

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy Monday and “Y” day, dear friend! The A to Z finish line “draws” near! 🙂

It was a pleasure to meet and greet Yazzy the Yellowfin tuna. You did a superb job of “catching” him in motion and I like the friendly expression on his face. I agree that his future’s so bright, he gotta wear shades, and to look cool he should wear his sunglasses at night. See what I did there? I made references to two hit songs of the 80s that you should recall, the first by Timbuk3 and the second by Corey Hart, both big on MTV. In your sketch I also like the added details – the long grasses growing up from the ocean floor and gently waving back and forth with the current, and the school of fish swimming by in the background. You are resourceful as well as artistic, dear friend!

I never heard of the recording artist Yazzy. She has a wonderful voice and singing style and I enjoyed her song “Heal Me.” I looked her up on Facebook and see that she is from Devon, England, an area I know well because an old blog friend lives there and has posted numerous pictures of that beautiful area of the UK. You also might remember me posting a video by the UK synthpop duo Yazoo, known in America as Yaz.

Have a happy Monday and a wonderful week, dear friend Cathy!

      Tom,

Yep, the A2Z finish line is near. Although, my ‘Z’ post hasn’t posted yet today is it with hundreds of bloggers exhaustedly but exciting bursting forth ‘Yippees’ for completing the challenging A2Z course. 🙂

I caught the reference to ‘Sunglasses At Night’ but I had to look up Timbuk3 songs to decipher which title you encrypted (to me). There’s a reason why I didn’t pick it up. After figuring out ‘The Future’s So Bright’, I listened to it and it’s an introduction. I definitely am going to add sunglasses to Yazzy when I reinvent him either through Procreate or when I apply my Prismacolor pencils to the original. I’m undecided which path I’ll take or who knows, maybe I’ll do both.

The song selections I featured by Yazzy are the ones I came across quickly that I liked the best. Some of her songs didn’t match my ears purrfectly but I’m glad that you enjoyed the short playlist. I didn’t look for her on FB. I’ll have to check her out.

Have a good day, my friend.
