Good morning, kittens & dawgs! It’s November. Election day is 7 days from now. Have you voted? Speaking of which I know some of you voted in my October 15th BoTB while I was on hiatus and I didn’t make it back to share the results.
In the Pink Moon #BoTB showdown, I asked you to pick your favorite artist between Meshell Ndegeocello and Walt Mink. The vote was tight. I went with Mink. I preferred his vocals and uptempo over his rival but in the end, Ndegeocello clinched the victory with only a two point lead.
I thought with the fate of America waiting in the balance on November 8th, I thought today’s BoTB song choice is a perfect fit, the Beatles Revolution (reference only, please don’t vote on the original version).
Contender #1 is an English Pop Supergroup started in 1985 by Genesis founding member, Mike Rutherford.
Contender #2 covers this popular song country-pop style.
Who gets your vote, Mike & The Mechanics or Rascal Flatts?

Both sound good and I have always liked both groups, but Rascal Flatts sounds better.
Thanks, Ellen!
Rascal Flatts gets my vote on this one. They had more energy with this song.
I am a big Rascal Flatts fan, but not so much for this song. So… give me Mike and his Mechanics!
I vote for Rascal Flatts because they had that harder edge but yet still retained their own distinctive quality. I found Mike and the Mechanics good but a bit safe which this song is anything but.
Birgit, thanks for voting for Rascal Flatts. They really are flat out stealing this showdown! I’ll be over to see you later, my friend.
CATHY, you wanna know one of the things I like best about ya? I like the fact that you’re…DEPLORABLE!!
This was indeed a good song choice for the last BOTB before Presidential Election 2016.
I am such a God-loving, peaceful man, but if this election doesn’t turn out right, I think I’ll be ready to “lock and load” and get my 15-minutes of “Revolutionary” fame. We Christian, Constitutional people have put up with… ENOUGH!!!
Have you seen THIS one?…

As for the Battle: So many people have raved about MIKE + THE MECHANICS that I always wondered why I didn’t like them. Ahhh, a “Genesis” connection, eh? That e’splains it. Me no likey Genesis or ANY ProgRock.
However, I thought the RASCAL FLATTS version was really danged good — BETTER than The Beatles’ original. So, obviously, THEY get my vote.
Considering our Christian and pro-Trump outlooks, I’m a wee bit o’ surprised that I’ve never found you in the comment section of my ‘FERRET-FACED FASCIST FRIENDS’ blog. It’s all about politics and Spirituality, and we seem to be *mostly* on the same page regarding BOTH.

Stephen,
Yep, I’m totally deplorable according to Hitlary but what does she know? Anytime someone disagrees with a liberal then they are a racist, sexist, homophobe, or any number of labels they give someone who thinks for herself. I haven’t see the picture you shared but it looks like a good one to use an ammo in this election. I have similar ones but not with prison bars in the background. Hopefully, that’s where she and Bill will end up. I don’t know if, we the people, will get this lucky or not. There’s too much corruption in Washington, DC. I think I may have visited your political rant blog before and I will be sure to bookmark it for future visits. Generally, I’d rather poke around the edges of politics but this election I decided I needed to do more to take a stand. Who knows maybe my social media shares might pick up another Trump supporter here and there or maybe noone but regardless I can say I did something instead of sitting on my thumbs. I believe the future of America rides on this one and people need to say, “With Trump here are my future possibilities- live in a predominately Christian country, booming economy, 2nd Amendment Rights, Freedom of speech, good competitive health insurance, secure borders, illegals deported, Islamists stopped, … and do I go with Hillary who has taken money from women hating countries, promises to keep jobs out of America, raise taxes, continue Obamacare, have open border, allow Sharia Law,…” The answer seems clear to me who the candidate of choice SHOULD BE for Americans and yet they do not see the big picture because they DO NOT think for themselves. *smack forehead* What can I say, there will always be sheep. Alright, enough said on this topic.
I got your vote recorded for Rascal Flatts, my friend. I’m glad that you liked their cover. Next stop your place!
Hi, Cathy!
“Revolution” is one of my favorite and most inspiring Beatles songs. You surprised me with two versions that I never heard before and I enjoyed both. I remember Mike and the Mechanics because their videos were played often on the MTV station where I worked in the 80s and 90s. I am also familiar with Rascal Flatts.
As I told you on my blog I am traveling this week and listening to the BOTB offerings on a tinny laptop. However, my ears were able to pick up the differences in the two competing recordings and I had no problem picking a favorite. The version of “Revolution” by Mike and the Mechanics is good but I gravitated more to version #2, the countrified cover by Rascal Flatts. It stays close to the original but with a country twist and I found that very pleasing. Their version is melodic, the band is tight and the overall recording simply has more “swag” than the first one. Give my vote to Rascal Flatts, dear friend Cathy!
Tom, I must have missed that you’re traveling and using your laptop. I appreciate you taking time away to vote in this round of BoTB and I have you down for Rascal Flatts. Be safe!
I thought I would hate Rascal Flatts, but I don’t. However, I’m a Mike & The Mechanics fans and I vote for them.
Love,
Janie
Janie, I’ve been a fan of Rascal Flatts for years. Their new country sound with their amazing harmonic vocals are a real ear winner in my book. I’m glad that you didn’t hate them. I gotcha down for Mike & The Mechanics who do a great job on this song, too. Now, let me hop over to visit you!
My favorite was Rascal Flatts. Mike + The Mechanics just didn’t seem to get it right, and I didn’t like the way it faded out instead of ending with the power chords.
John, At first I thought this was going to be a close race but it looks like Rascal Flatts is flat out leaving Mike & the Mechanics far behind with a 5 to 3 vote count which includes yours. In fact, this showdown is turning into a lopsided one. Go figure, right? Thanks for stopping in to vote. Now, I’m off to visit you!
wow. tough one here! I really enjoyed both versions, but I think I’m going to have to give my vote to Rascal Flatts.
~Mary
Mary, Both artists are good. There aren’t a lot of covers of this song. Some artists tried to make it more their own song but the translation did nothing for me and felt they didn’t deserve to be featured, which lead me to pick these two bands that were similar to the original yet a hint of their music personalities shined through. Thanks for voting. Another tally for Rascal Flatts. I’m coming over to see you now.
This is likely to be a close battle, Cathy. Both versions are good, but I have to go with Rascal Flatts. Their rendition captures the energy of The Beatles’ original. As for the election, here’s hoping for a peaceful outcome. I’m in the thick of it, down here in California. 🙂
Debbie, Rascal Flatts does a great job capturing the energy of the original. I’m glad to see they are doing well in this competition. I know most folks in BoTB doesn’t have a keen ear for country style music. It’ll be interesting to see which band pulls off the victory. This is an interesting election to say the least and you just never know how it’s gonna play out. There are reports of Hillary’s campaign paying people to cause trouble and then that poor homeless woman a target of violence by angered Hillary supporters in Los Angelos. It’s just crazy. I have your vote recorded, so I guess I better hop over to see what you’ve put together this round. Thanks for popping in!
Both covers are good. I’m not much into country, but I do like music from Rascal Flats… go figure. Even though I’m an 80’s guy, I was never really into Mike & the Mechanics.
Please give my vote to Rascal Flats
Mike and the Mechanics. Love their version.
Patrick, I’m thrilled you weighed in on this round of BoTB. It’s great when others outside join in on the fun. I wish more people would do the same. I have you down for Mike & the Mechanics. 🙂
Well I think you’re going to have another tight battle on your hands here. Congrats on a close battle with Pink Moon.
I like both version of Revolution. I thought I’d be voting for Mike & the Mechanics but then I heard Rascal Flatts. That’s where my vote is going. Please count me in for Rascal Flatts.
Great battle Cathy!
Excellent song choice, especially given the current state of affairs here…
Crazy times!
Michele at Angels Bark
Michele, You might be right, this could be another tight race. We’ll see. I have you down for Rascal Flatts. I think Revolution is the way many people are feeling given the climate of things in the US right now. Obama has misused his power during his reign and Hillary promises to do more of the same. Trump isn’t perfect but he offers a lot of good solutions that can vastly improve things in this country. Thanks for stopping by to vote. Now, I’m off to see you!
Those are interesting and seemingly unlikely artists to be performing this song. The Rascal Flatt version is darn good, however I used to be a big fan of Mike and the Mechanics, though I’ve never heard their version of this song, so I’m voting for them.
This is a fitting song for this election season. No matter who wins, we might be seeing an upcoming revolution. Fortunately one side has most of the gun owners so this revolution could be interesting. I hope it doesn’t come to this, but I’m just saying.
Arlee Bird
Tossing It Out
Lee, I thought the song was a good pick considering it’s an election year and glad you think so, too. I hope there isn’t a revolution but you just never know. Big bad government is stealing away our liberties all around us and they want to do more harm than good to the American people. I say, enough is enough and I’m happy to see a more conservative movement in progress. I have your vote recorded for Mike & The Mechanics. Next stop your place to cast my vote!
