Wednesday Mashup – #WW + Round 9 #BoTB Results

Two weeks ago, I began sharing my reinvented A2Z Little Mermaid art sketch illustrations and got a bit carried away with that share.  Today, I will keep things brief. Keeping my sketches in alphabetic order, my next share is Flounder. Originally, posted  here;  using my pencil drawing, I recreated the design digitally on my iPad with my favorite drawing app Procreate.

Now, in living color Flounder!

In last week’s BoTB, I featured two artists covering Ace of Base song ‘The Signs’. This battle sorta surprised me.  The winner in this round is…

THE MAINE!👏

Here’s how the votes stacked. Swedish Hitz Goes Metal took 5 counts – Tom, Debbie, Brian, Colette, & John. The Maine landed a whopping 11 tallies – Mike, Rain, Sandee, Lee, Michele, Linda, Mary, Stephen, Mimi, Eugenia, Msjadeli.

I thought you might enjoy another song by today’s winner.  From their March 2019, You Are Okay album here is “Broken Parts”!

In case you don’t know,  I’ve temporarily suspended the linky party and if you’d like a return visit please leave a breadcrumb (direct URL) to your site in comments.  Please join me tomorrow for more artwork with Thursday Art Date with Rain!  X💋X💋, Cathy

  1. Flounder is adorable! I’d get a kick hanging out with him…Looks like he has a fun personality. 🙂
Glad I was on the winning side of your battle. And I am enjoying the new-to-me Maine song here. Good stuff.

    1. Michele,

I think Flounder is adorable, too. He’s a bit skittish compared to Ariel’s adventurous spirit but that’s part of his charm. I’m glad to know that you’re enjoying the new discovery The Maine song!

    1. Deb,

I am having a lot of fun sketching! I’m so happy that I forced myself back into this hobby. I would’ve never guessed how much I would like doing this again after all the years that had passed. Now, I’m totally and forever hooked!

  2. Love the Flounder sketch, Cathy! 🙂 As for BOTB, my pick really took a beating. 😛 Responding to Stephen’s comment about metal: I’m older than most people here and love it! And there’s been some excellent metal music beyond 1978. Wanna argue about it? 😀 Just kidding! Musical tastes are completely subjective. Keeps life interesting…

    1. Debbie,

I’m not a metal band purrson but over the years I’ve grown to appreciate the artistry especially from older groups. I think had I tossed my vote in the hat, I was leaning slightly toward SHGM version. The only thing about there’s that I didn’t like is the tempo which is a bit too fast. The Maine’s tempo is a little too slow making it a way more mellow sounding cover. At least the battle wasn’t a shutout, right? You’re right mewsic tastes are subjective and it makes life interesting. I love hearing what others like that’s different from my ear because it’s stuff I wouldn’t seek out. Sometimes I get a surprise. 🙂

  3. That is such a cute drawing of Flounder. He looks a very happy fish.

      1. No worries. I think I stopped by yesterday. I might have landed on one of our other blogs but found this one but a different post or maybe I’m confused and didn’t do either thing. It’s been a crazy week. I’m so ready for the weekend to begin NOW! 😀

  4. CATHY ~
That was a pretty one-sided Battle. BOTB is mostly an older crowd, which is probably why, historically, “Metal” bands have never fared well in the Battles. I generally stay away from them, but that’s primarily because I really don’t care for that style beyond, say, the “Classic Rock” era. I don’t think anything innovative has been done since Van Halen’s eponymous debut album back in 1978.

Great drawing of Flounder. I think maybe you’re ready for a job as an Inbetweener at Disney.

    1. Stephen,

I figured SHGM would fair better than they did but I was wrong. Thanks for the confidence booster but as of yet Mr. Disney hasn’t sent an email, phone, or query asking if I’m available. 😀

  5. That was decisive. I guess a lot of us are a bit too mellow for the heavy stuff. Or maybe listening early in the morning.

    1. Lee,

I never was into heavy stuff and find I enjoy more nowadays or at least the older stuff but early in the mornings not so much. Thanks for checking in!

  6. I love, love, love your drawings and sketches. You’re most talented.

    The Maine deserved this win.

I hope your week gets better, my friend.

Thank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. Love and hugs. ♥

  7. Michele emailed me last night with that update on her mom. Let us continue to pray that she will pull through this terrible ordeal. Thanks, Cathy!

  8. Hi, Cathy!

Happy Almost Wordless Wednesday to you, dear friend!

Yessum, I certainly do remember Flounder from “F” day of the A to Z marathon, and I am delighted with the result after you worked your magic to bring him to life in living color. The finished Flounder is a wonderful illustration with an eye pleasing color combination and intensity level and just the right amount of added detail in the underwater scene around him. I love it!

For possibly the 50th time in a row, I wound up on the losing squad in your Battle of the Bands. 🙂 I’m doubling down on my contention that rough, rowdy rock and metal is more enjoyable, at least to my ears, than a band of emoting males. That style simply isn’t to my liking, but I do congratulate The Maine and the folks who voted for them.

Flounder is suitable for framing, Cathy. You did a tremendous job of fleshing him out. Have a happy Wednesday and I’ll see you soon, dear friend!

    1. Tom,

Thanks for joining me this morning. I’m rather pleased with Flounder coming full circle into the world of living color. He turned out just as I imagined he would. My Procreate drawing app with all of its cool features truly allow me to push the boundaries of my limited skill set making my designs take on a new dimension. I appreciate your wonderful encouragement. Just so you’ll know I’m seeking more opportunities to exercise my drawing from new art challenge discoveries and squeezing them into my posting routine.

Honestly, I thought SHGM would do better than they did but my call was really off. I knew they’d get your vote but some of the others who I thought would jump on the same bandwagon did not. Oh well…it’s all in fun to see how these go down and to me, there isn’t really a loser in any of these showdowns. BTW, I saw on FB that Michele’s mother came through the surgery. Are you on FB? If not, I can copy & paste her mews in an email to share with you if you’d like. Have a great day!
