Friday Fun Stuff

Vintage Pin-ups & Giggles

Purrs and hooowdys, Kittens & Dawgs! While I’m despensing the bulk of today’s meme participation, I decided I couldn’t let the week pass without sharing a weekly dose of laughter with Vintage Pin-ups & Giggles. Enjoy!

Oh, yeah I have this job! 🙂

A while back I stumbled on this image while looking for vintage dancers.

If this image made you smile, then you’ll gonna enjoy checking out these kitty vintage pin-up wannabes. I decided to not share some of the more risqué pin-ups but will leave it up to you to decide to visit or not. 😉

Next Friday, I’ll run at full capacity with Friday Fun Stuff and so I’ll leave you with these vintage hotties singing but I invite you back for a double feature post with freebie mewsic pick on Mondays Mewsic Moves Me and Battle of the Bands!

I’m outta here for now. Have a laughtastic weekend and I’ll see you on the dance floor Monday!

X💋X💋,

Those were fun. Thank you for the kind words you left on my blog for the loss of Phoebe. XO

      Ellen,

I hope the giggles helped to alleviate your heartache even if for a minute. I know this is a sad time for y’all with the passing of your sweet kitty, Phoebe. Pets add immense pleasure to one’s life and become just like a family member. God bless you, dearie!

Your kitten drawing is great! Keep it up and keep showing your artistic style. Love these sayings and these pin up posters are also artistic and their bodies way more appealing than the sticks today. I will be looking at more of the art with kittens. Good ole Raquel ….she tries her best.

      Birgit,

Oh yeah, I prefer a few womanly curves as I like to describe these gals over today’s shapeless figures. Have you noticed slender women don’t have the classic figures of those 30+ years ago? Girls/young women have little to no hips. Sometimes they have big breasts but no hips which make their shape out of balance and I don’t think that’s nearly as attractive. A lot of gals have very wide shoulders, no hips, or breasts kinda making them look like a boy. Nope, nope, nope, I like a little curve and thankfully I have just that. 🙂

Yes, I have noticed that…it is too weird looking plus many actresses are too skinny so their heads look huge and remind me of the bobblehead dolls

I especially like the one with the dancer and the cat striking the “jazz hands” pose. Alberto Vargas did some great pin-up art in his time, for Esquire and Playboy.

    • Cathy Kennedy

      John,

Vargas did some excellent work and is so talented. I’d love to be able to draw life-like female forms like him! I recent months I made the happy discovery of his Esquire and Playboy images. His girls always have a certain innocence in their naughtiness which you don’t find today.

Cathy, I love the quotes. I like to see women be strong. I don’t like the pin up, though. I prefer women to rely on their wits, rather than their bodies. I prefer they be respected for who they are, not their looks. I do have personal reasons for feeling this way, and so thought it was worth sharing. Sadly, I know I am in a minority. Hugs.

      Annie,

Not all sexy women come off being strong but I believe they are some who are quite strong and ready to stand their ground when needed. Why not have both wits and good looks? 😉 I think women have the hardest time dealing with body issues due to insecurities or whatever so I understand. One should never look at one aspect of a person without seeing the full picture. Hopefully, if a woman is beautiful or has a drop dead body that there is more to her than looks and it’s up to women and men to see past the exterior. Yeah, I know easier said than done. We are programmed to see one thing for whatever reason and that’s it. Oh well… I like seeing all facets of a woman’s capabilities brains, good looks, and more! 🙂

I understand. I know I am in a minority with this subject, but I have valid reasons for not liking pin-ups. Without going into detail, I was a childhood victim of someone who was very much into this. He shattered my self-esteem and altered my life as a female in this world. I am strong in spite of him and those who allowed him to victimize.

        • Cathy Kennedy

          Annie,

No explanation is needed, my friend. It breaks my heart to know that you had a horrible experience and can only imagine what happened. Hopefully with God and your sweet husband’s help you’re able to push all of this aside. I’m glad for you that you were made strong from this experience instead of allowing yourself to be a victim of it for a lifetime. There are those who never recover and that’s so sad. I don’t understand how an adult can do things to young children and even more adults who knowingly turn a blind eye to it all. God bless you, dear friend!

    Hi, Cathy!

I forgot to tell you last time how much I admire your sketch of the ticklish, giggling kitty. It’s another fine piece of artwork! You know how much I enjoy your pin-ups, and I got a kick out of the memes you posted along with the cats that think they are pin-ups displayed on the Rooster site.

I also enjoyed the four songs performed by vintage female sex symbols. I didn’t care too much for Rachel’s singing but I have always enjoyed Marilyn Monroe’s vocal ability and liked her song. Ann-Margaret has a kittenish voice and I also enjoyed her performance. As you probably already know, Jayne Mansfield’s daughter, actress Mariska Hargitay, is the star of the long running TV series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

Thanks for the smiles, dear friend Cathy. I’ll be back for your big MMMM – BOTB double feature. Until then have a great weekend!

      Tom,

I’m playing catch up. So, sorry for not responding before now. Hey, no worries about not mentioning that you liked my Friday Fun Stuff (formerly Friday Sillies) post image change. I drew the laughing kitty for the A to Z challenge if you recall and decided to use it for my humor post. Oh yeah, I love the vintage gal pin-ups! Everyone woman has a little desire (maybe a lot) to be like these gals and there’s nothing wrong with wanting to be/feel sexy. It doesn’t mean you aren’t capable of doing other things and I found many sex symbols of yesteryear were quite strong women. I wish I had included Julie London in my mewsic playlist. She really was a pin-up girl! 🙂 Anywho, I’m delighted you enjoyed the laughs, artwork, & mewsic! BTW, I didn’t know Jayne Mansfield’s daughter starred on Law & Order. I’m horrible with names, let me take a quick look now….holy moly, I know the face now and had NO clue Mariska Hargitay is Mansfield’s daughter. WOW, I would not have guessed this is million years. She looks like her mama when I see their photos side by side by but it’s Mariska non-plantium do that throws my brain off track. Just color her hair and wah-lah, you’d have the return of a 50s sex-bomb. She died young which I did not know until now in a horrible auto accident with Mariksa and two of her siblings asleep in the back seat. How sad!
