How was your weekend? Ours was great! We spent Saturday with our son and his wife shopping for baby things. The wind was so stout it nearly carried me off to Oz. I’m glad the temperature was warm to off set the strong wind which could’ve made for a not-so fun experience. In case you wondering, I’m skipping the A to Z Challenge this month. I hinted at the possibility of my participation, but in the end I needed to do what’s best for my sanity. Anyway, it’s Monday and Mondays means music, so welcome to Monday’s Music Moves Me! This week’s theme is songs that express fragile emotions yours or another.
What makes you feel vulnerable (fragile)? A broken heart, being alone, sickness, suicidal thoughts, death, something else? I’m sure we can all relate to most if not all of the possibilities I mentioned. Still fresh in my mind is the fragile condition I was in, physically and mentally after being hospitalized twice within two weeks almost a decade ago which led to surgery. Being unwell, I mean seriously sick makes you question your mortality. I know where I’m going when I die but the thought of leaving those you love can shake anyone. I’m healthy as a horse these days so such things are far away from my thoughts. Out of painful situations, songwriters gift to us a way to self-heal using the power of music, the perfect prescription to mend the heart and lift one’s mood. Hit play to free your mind!
Evanescence Going Under was a follow up to the band’s 2003 first hit single ranking #5, Bring Me To Life. Unfortunately, the song didn’t gain quite the popularity needed to hit the Hot 100 list. Amy Lee co-wrote the song with her bandmates. It’s a story about a woman coming out of a bad relationship and is at the end of her rope. I don’t have experience with bad relationships but I do know that feeling of being at the end of my rope.
Beatles While My Guitar Gently Weeps, written by George Harrison in 1968, never charted but quite popular on classic rock radio. I think it was a cover of this old song that I remember best but the original is an enduring Beatles song that I since have grown to love. Harrison penned the lyrics as an inspired Chinese I Ding writing exercise in randomness. The song basically tells of George’s sadness for the world of its unrealized potential for universal love as mentioned in the song as “the love there that’s sleeping”. I think you’d have to be a zombie for this tender song’s melody and lyrics to not tug at your vulnerable side.
Post Malone Take What You Want with Ozzy Osbourne and Travis Scott is a new discovery released in October 2019. The song refers to heart break. All three artists adding a bit of their story to the song how their girl’s abuse hurt them. Take What You Want debuted number 8 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart making this Osbourne’s first Top 10 hit in 30 years. Anyone whose gone through a break-up understands the feelings of an exposed, raw heartache.
Stevie Nicks wrote Landslide in 1974 inspired by events in her life. The song is about the fear of life changing suddenly. Nicks recorded the song after joining Fleetwood Mac. Landslide is an excellent way to describe how one feels when its out of his/her control. You just can’t stop it from happening. When you’re powerless in a situation, you’re defenseless in what comes at you.
Former REM band member, Barry wrote Everybody Hurts for those who felt there is no hope as anti-suicide song. I can relate to the pain of this song but never to the degree to inflict self harm because deep within it is hope Jesus that keeps me hanging on. I pray that others can see and follow the light Jesus offers through those darkened times.
Glen Campbell I’m Not Gonna Miss You co-wrote this song in the early stages of Alzheimers. It’s with his wife of thirty years in mind that he penned these words. “I’m never gonna hold you like I did / Or say I love you to the kids / You’re never gonna see it in my eyes / It’s not gonna hurt me when you cry / I’m not gonna miss you.” This is a difficult thing to think about. How many of us will find ourselves in Campbell’s shoes in years to come? One’s health is a fragile thing. Take care of yourself. Let’s live everyday like it’s our last creating loving memories for those who’ll mourn our loss.
Plumb was inspired to wrote, Need You Now (How Many Times) about the difficult years in her marriage and Need You Now brought to mind her battle with anxiety attacks from her teen years. I totally connected with her pleas to God. I remember years ago when that’s all I knew to pray, I need You now, whatever the crisis. God calmed my worries. Things didn’t get immediately better. I knew each day was a work-in-progress til my prayers were answered.
This is a music link up. Your 4M party hostess are now featured in my right side menu near the top. Every other week we have a suggested music theme to build your song set around and all participants share YouTube or Vimeo videos for our music enthusiasts. Themes aren’t mandatory to gain access to the dance floor but failure to meet the basic guideline (post must contain music) puts your URL in danger of being labeled – NO MUSIC.
Last week I missed Ellen’s Friendly Fill-in statements, so I’m doubling up today to share both sets.
1. My favorite character from a film, tv or book is Hanna Marin from the series Pretty Little Liars.
2. The one word I would use to describe myself is cheerful.
3. If I had to give you my best piece of advice, I would tell you don’t let stress make you feel overwhelmed or tramped. It’s okay to step away from certain circumstances to alleviate those times and for things out of your hand, have faith things will improve.
4. A man of worldly riches will never compare with my sweet DH.
Tomorrow is my mom’s birthday. She doesn’t read my blog but still I want to say, Happy Birthday to the prettiest lady I know and I hope your day is just as special as you are to me. 🫶 😘
My Apr. 1st BOTB launched this past Saturday for anyone interested. You’ll find the link in my side menu under Current Headline News. I’ll be back on Thursday for Rain’s art date. Thanks for dancing with me today! This is CAAC signing off, have a boogietastic day. X💋X💋, Cathy

“You might be surprised at the strength of the fragile. And for some people it is ordinary life that is most challenging, not so much the extraordinary.”
