Don’t mess with me, pork chop. What day is this? This is just one of Bill Murray’s funny lines in the popular movie Groundhog Day. The worse job possible to have today is that of Punxsutawney Phil. You either love the chubby rodent or hate him depending on whether or not he sees his shadow. The poor fella didn’t ask to be the weatherman yet the eyes of the world turn to the small western Pennsylvania town on this secondary day of February 2021 to see if we’ll have six more weeks of winter or six weeks until spring. To quote Bill Murray from the movie Groundhog Day, “The question is does Phil feel luck?”
Saturday night we watched Groundhog Day on AMC. This movie has become almost an annual event to see. It’s truly a classic. Everything about the film is perfect – location, script, acting, and music. There are so many great lines in this movie and it never fails to make us laugh. We just love it!
I remember when I was a kid, I really though the groundhog really predicted if winter would stay with us a little longer or if we’d get spring sooner, not realizing the season change occurred six weeks regardless of what the groundhog sees its shadow or not. What innocence!
Personally, I think the whole festival that takes place in Punxsutawney is delightful and I’d love to go to it…if it wasn’t for the cold weather. lol The history behind groundhog day is interesting if you care to learn more. I found a bit of interesting info at APNews to share with you.
Punxsutawney Phil may be the most famous groundhog seer but he’s certainly not the only one. There are two other high-profile “imposters,” as the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club calls them, in the region.
Staten Island Chuck will be asked for his prophesy Tuesday around 8 a.m. at the Staten Island Zoo in New York. That event will be streamed on Facebook since the zoo is closed.
Also without fanfare, Chuckles, Connecticut’s official state groundhog, will make a prediction from home: the Lutz Children’s Museum in Manchester.
Speaking of weather, yesterday ours was cold and snowy. It didn’t amount to much just a dusting. It’s still cold but no precipitation today. Here in east Tennessee we’re on a weather roller coaster. One day it’s cold, the next it feels like spring. Things will warm up again for Thursday and Friday before another cold snap makes it way into our area. Winter is definitely with us. I’m really ready for spring!
It’s cold out this morning and I’m so happy that I don’t have to brave the weather. It’s time to grab a cup of coffee. I’m heading off to visit a few of my friends Comedy-Plus (Sandee) and Stacy Uncorked. Wanna come with?
I’m taking one day at time in Blogosphere. It seems I’m feeling a bit burned out. This being said, I wanted you to tell you to not worry if you don’t see regular scheduled posts. That’ll mean I’m just sitting it out for the day. Hopefully, I’ll get energized to bring you another a new edition of Wild Wednesdays – the party where just about anything goes. Whatever you do or don’t see here, stay safe and be warm! 😉
