Good-morning, kittens & dawgs! How are things in your little corner of the world? All is well here, except for the pain in my left knee for the past 2-weeks. Thankfully, it’s doing better. I think the culprit behind the inflammation is the daily salmon oil supplement, which I temporarily stopped taking. I’ll try taking it again in a few weeks to see if the pain returns and if it does then I know that my body just doesn’t handle it well.
Speaking of pain, I know everyone deals with it. Sometimes it’s mind blinding, debilitating agony and other times it’s just a constant nagging ache, but what ever degree of your discomfort, know music helps to soothe your pain.
- Music processes pain. Listening to pleasing tunes, increases the activity in the reward center portion of the brain that releases the chemical dopamine ~ that feel quality associated with food, sex, and certain addictive drugs.
- Better relief with good music. Depending on how gratifying the song is can improve your perspective of pain. For instance, the sound of soft romantic ballets such as The Blue Danube Waltz reported to ease pain suffering by the listener than when listening to clashing, unpleasant notes of Pendulum Music. (Personally, I found it annoying and I’m not in pain.)
- Music provides distraction. One obvious reason with music’s ability is it creates a competition for the listener’s attention. If the pain suffer gives his/her mind over to the music then he/she feels less pain.
- Pain reduction proof from music. Improving one’s wellness with music isn’t only a perception, but is documented that playing music for patients before, during, and after medical procedures can help lower blood pressure, reduce anxiety and stress, ease muscle tension, and more.
Last week, if you read The one thing I want to accomplish in 2015 then you know I’m making changes in my approach to blogging this new year. I thought it appropriate to let the cat out of the bag one of the decisions I made and that is I am stepping down as co-host of Monday’s Music Moves Me.
Before you get all misty eyed on me, let me just say this doesn’t mean good-bye. Au contraire, I hope to be right here week after week boogieing with you. I just want to do things a little different in pairing my Monday morning posts with an appropriate song choices. After all… isn’t the reason we’re here for the music?
