Which is it, are you hunting for Bambi or your sweetie? #BoTBresults

It’s Monday…again but that’s not really all that bad when you have mewsic to ramp your mood. Welcome to Monday’s Mewsic Moves Me! This week is ‘your choice song picks‘.

In January I kick started a new mewsic series and this morning, I experimenting with two more bands with the same or similar names, both are new-to-me.

I guess I gotcha wondering about my post title, eh?  Today’s bands with the same or similar names are Deerhunter and The Dear Hunter.

Honestly, I thought of the 70s film starting Martin Sheen (The Deer Hunter) when I saw Deerhunter. How about you?   Anyhow, who is Deerhunter?

In 2001, Bradford Cox lead vocalist and drummer, Moses Archuleta formed Deerhunter, a rock band that falls into the genres of noise, garage, art, indie, and experimental.  Interestingly it wasn’t either of these guys who came up with the bands name. It was the groups first drummer, Dan Walton. I wonder if he’s kin to John Boy? I’m confused by that with Archuleta, the co-founder, also credited as a drummer but Wiki mentions some band members have multi-roles in the group. I guess that explains that.

Billboard tells me is Halcyon Digest(YT playlist) is the groups’ best charting album listed for 7-weeks, peaking on October 2017 to #37. I tried to listen this album but the mewsic didn’t really take root in my soul.

I invite you to sample Deerhunter’s songs from their 8th studio album, WHY HASN’T EVERYONE ALREADY DISAPPEARED?.

Deerhunter is still active to date. Band members include, other than the co-founders, are Lockett Pundt, Josh McKay, and Javier Morales.  Prior to the band’s album (above) release January of last  year, bass guitarist Joshua Fauver who unexpectedly died (cause unknown) at the age of 39 in November 2018, making this the 3rd death of band members (Justin Bosworth head injury skateboarding accident & Bradley Ira Harris heroin addict both died in 2005).

The Dear Hunter initially started with former The Receiving End of Sirens band member, Casey Crescenzo, as a side project for his spill over creations that didn’t fit well with the group in 2006. In 2006, Casey made a demo of Dear Ms Lending to share with friends and posted online for download which became the springboard for the soon-to-be American progressive rock band to evolved the one song into a story with five additional acts that you can hear below.

The last thing Wiki shares on The Dear Hunters is from 2017 announcing their headlining tour with The Family Crest and Vava, as well news of their six-track EP, All is As I Should Be that released December 1st.

The sound between the two bands bearing same/similar names are different. I think overall I may prefer The Dear Hunter’s style to Deerhunter but I don’t think I’d buy either.  Exposure to both I count valuable in my mewsical education. After all, one can’t get too many tunes stuffed in one’s head, can one? 😉

What do you think, which group suits your ear best?

Before I wrap things up, let me spill the beans let me share the results of my Mad World #BoTB Showdown. If you cast a vote then you probably have a good idea how things went down.  The majority spoke clearly giving The Brooklyn Duo victory with a 8 to 2 to 3 vote count. Many thanks to everyone who joined in the fun! Next showdown is set for the 15th, so please stop in to cast your ballot. 😉

Have a boogietastic day!  X💋X💋, Cathy
