Where Did The Good Stuff Go?

Last week, my DH began to show signs of not being well. You know, achy joints, congestion, stuffiness, and coughing. He didn’t have a fever, though. On Wednesday of last week, I noticed I was beginning to feel not quite right. I chalked it up to as an allergy flare-up since I was moving some dusty stuff around. Wiped out by the weekend but I had no aches in the body just lots of congestion and lethargy, which brings me to my ramblings. NyQuil the sniffling, sneezing, coughing, aching, stuffy head, so you can rest medicine DOESN’T work anymore! At least not for my DH or myself.

What’s going on with NyQuil? Years ago, we would reluctantly take NyQuil because it would clobber us so badly we would have trouble getting up the next morning. Do you remember that? Is this still happening with you? Well, it certainly isn’t with us.

My DH and I took NyQuil last week in hopes to get a good night’s rest. I slept soundly for a few hours and then woke up. My nose was so stuffed up, I couldn’t fall back to sleep for well over an hour. The room just spun around and around while I lay in bed praying for sleep to fall upon me. A similar thing happened to my DH, too.

The bottom line is Vick’s has changed the formula. They no longer use the ingredient pseudoephedrine, which really makes this the sniffling, sneezing, coughing, aching, stuffy head, so you can rest medicine. I suspect this all came about with the new regulations on OTC meds to make it harder for the bad boys making meth.

Where did the good stuff go? Supposedly, you can still get this active ingredient behind the pharmacy counter. It sounds like you’re trying to buy something dirty, instead of a cold remedy. Anyhow, I can not speak with any authority on this matter since I haven’t inquired at my local Wal-Mart pharmacy to see if this is true or not.  However, according to the net (and you know it must be true) to purchase any product with pseudoephedrine, you have to show your id and sign a logbook.

Dah, don’t you think the bad boys can get a fake id? It’s not like they aren’t afraid to break the law or somethin’, you know? Isn’t that frustrating or what? I mean, the honest and innocent Mrs. Suzie Homemaker buys the good meds to help her family combat a nasty cold, and then something goes wrong with the system. Mrs. Suzie Homemaker gets carted off to jail one day accused of buying pseudoephedrine to make meth in her kitchen. I don’t trust the system. It has Big Government written all over it!

You can call me paranoid (Maybe, I should leave the house under an umbrella to camouflage myself from satellite surveillance), or you can call me strangely cautious.  eerie music fades out** Let’s just leave it at that. Somethings are better left unsaid, don’t you agree? big cheesy smile*

Oh yeah, it’s Valentine’s Day! Here are a couple of pictures of my red velvet cake I made for my DH. I took a wee bit of a short cut this year, I used Duncan Hines boxed Red Velvet cake mix, but I made my cream cheese frosting. For boxed cake mixes Duncan Hines is great!

Happy Valentine’s Day to all of my bloggy pals!  XOXO!!!
