Thank you for joining me for another edition of Pencil Sketch Inspired Procreate Recreation Art Series Part 2. For those not familiar with what I’m doing, I’m picking up from last year’s A to Z Challenge theme using this time slot to showcase artwork I would’ve shared in April had I participated in the annual event.
Three years ago inspired by Rain’s Garden weekly prompt, I did a pencil drawing of an old painting of the Girl with A Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer. I am a self-taught artist. I did not go to school to learn about art or how to draw. That being said here’s my original pencil drawing.
At the time, I felt proud of my sketch. It’s not perfect but still I liked what I had created. I was eager to re-illustrate and bring to life with color. Here is my Procreate version.
To achieve textures one might get using colored pencils and paper or paints and canvas, Procreate has various brushes built into the app. I used various types smooth, jagged, flat, round, and even a luminance paint brush to make her earring appear to shine. I did several corrections before sharing this final version but I’m proud of it.
Next I used my Procreate color sketch in the Brushstrokes app. This is how it turned out.
The Brushstrokes app really brings to colors together nicely giving the appearance of creases and shadows in the right places. The only thing it has trouble handling is the light reflective dots in the girl’s eyes which got lost a bit. Not bad enough to dissuade me from sharing it with you.
This is the last WW for the year. I’m scaling back to enjoy the holiday season. I hope to resume this series in the new year at some point. Coming up next on CAAC is my December 1st BOTB and I hope you’ll decide to join the fun! Have a doodletastic day. X💋X💋, Cathy
