Thursday Art Date

TADwRain week 5 #art theme ‘LONELY’

I’m struggling to find balance but one thing I am not having difficulty balancing is my time spent sketching.  I’m enjoying very much Rain’s prompts calling me to challenge myself.  This week she’s thrown ‘lonely’ at us to inspire our creative energies. I’m taking one from Rain with my first illustration.

Looney Tunes Martian feeling lonely far from home. Will he find a way to get back?
A lonely little girl trying to find solace on her tree swing. Why is she lonely? Purrhaps, she misses her best friend.

Could this be who she’s missing?

Procreate illustration

The next art piece share, I used my favorite drawing app, Procreate to illustrate a lighthouse.

Nothing says lonely better than the beacon of light in the night far off shore.
I call this a lonely lighthouse after a storm. To feel the true effect of its loneliness, I need to apply color to my illustration. This will have to wait until another time, though.

I got carried away with drawing this go around. I hope you don’t mind.  I dare say I won’t be able to do this next time but if I do then hooray for me.  😉

Thanks for stopping in with your coffee for a peek at my masterpiece and …oh yeah for not spilling it on my artwork. lol  It’s been a super pleasure to share my sprinkle of talent I have with you this morning. 😘 If you like to see what others are bringing to the art play date, then I invite you to high tail it over to Rain’s Garden to browse through the gallery of artistry!

Y’all come join me on the dance floor with a ‘Summer Songs‘ on Monday’s Mewsic Moves Me on Sunday!

I like the maritian one the best. I couldn’t zoom in but do I see bugs bunny emerging in the corner there?

I don’t see lighthouses as lonely but perhaps that’s just me?

These are lovely and fits the theme very well.

    Have a lovely day.

      Lissa,

I’m glad you came by for a visit and to check out my ‘lonely’ artwork pieces. Yep, you spotted ole Bugs peeping out of his rabbit hole. I think you’re the only one to see him, too. I see lighthouses as lonely and haunting or beautiful and romantic. 🙂

I love your sketches, Cathy. Reminds me of a Beatles song – Eleanor Rigby – Ah look at all the lonely people,,, The martian and the little girl can be friends and play with the teddy bear by the lighthouse! Voila and so it goes.

  • Magical Mystical Mimi

I really love these sketches. It’s like as soon as you see them you feel them – if that makes sense. My favorite are the lighthouses. I love lighthouses and try to visit as many as I can.

    • Cathy Kennedy

Thanks, MMMimi! 🙂 I love lighthouses, too. On our last trip to Maine (2004) we made a point to see as many as we could and did a good job, too. There were lots more to see but not on the route of our sightseeing plans.

Beautiful Cathy – your drawings convey the atmosphere loneliness very well – not easy to do. I haven’t had a cup of tea yet but it’s 10.30 so I’d better put the kettle on – thanks for the reminder!

Those are all excellent examples of lonely. I want to give the little girl a hug. XO

You’re so gifted! I love these; wish I had even a tad of creativity in art!

Just reading about Summer? Reminds me of an old, old song “A Summer Place”. 🙂

    xoxo

      Sally,

Thanks for your lovely words. I believe there’s an artist in each of us. We just have to be brave to let it out. 🙂 Reading is an excellent pastime. I wish I had more of the mindset to do it but I do get my dose of reading through blogs or internet research. Have a great week!

Hi Cathy :)!! I LOVE YOUR POST this week! Seriously, every one of your sketches gave me happy goose pimples!! 🙂 I’m so happy you did Marvin the Martian…he looks so darn lonely…I guess this is how he REALLY feels when the camera is off! 😉 Your little girl is really well done, I love the details in her skirt and the flowers by the tree! Poor gal, your Teddy Bear makes me want to cry! But the grand finale…the lighthouses. What an amazing creative idea for “lonely”. Lighthouses always fascinated me but I always thought of them as lonely places, well done!! Hooray for you indeed!!! If you can find it, a really brilliant film about men working in a lighthouse is called The Vanishing (2018) – It also goes by the name “The Keepers”: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4131496/…the movie is a thriller and is very tragic but my gosh so well done. I love that you drew lighthouses for this theme! Bravo and thanks for joining in!!! 🙂 xx

      Rain,

I’m glad that you mentioned the movie, The Vanishing. We watched that a few weeks ago and I actually thought about it while I did my sketches. I intended to reference the film in my post but forgot. It’s been all I can do to keep things together in my little head. I’m looking forward to taking a semi-break beginning on the first of July. I haven’t quite figured out how I’ll work in my art but I plan to follow your themes to create and worry about sharing at the appropriate time. Thank you for the return visit and for the words of praise. You’ll really way too kind. 🙂

  • Sandee

You capture lonely very well. You know how much I enjoy seeing your artwork. You’re most talented.

Have a fabulous day, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥

  • John Holton

Some of these feel desolate. Good drawings, though.

So, summer songs is the theme for Monday? I’ll have to find another angle on it, because I have the playlist from last year, and it was pretty exhaustive…

  • Debbie D.

You are so talented, my friend! 🙂 I love your sketches and isn’t it wonderful to have a hobby you’re passionate about? Keeps us young, don’t you think? Looking forward to seeing more or your artistic offerings in future. Have a lovely weekend!

  • Laurie

Perfect examples of lonely! Beautiful work! I’m really enjoying Rains challenges she set for us!

    • Cathy Kennedy

      Laurie,

I am having a great time with Rain’s prompts. She’s keeping me on point to doodle often while inspiring me to create something new. This challenge is just what I needed!

  • Thomas Anderson

    Hi, Cathy!

Happy Art Theme Thursday to you, dear friend! Why would I mind if you get carried away with drawing when I derive so much pleasure from examining your work? You don’t have a sprinkle of talent… you have a torrent of talent! “The eyes have it.” Your sketch of the Looney Tunes Martian, the little girl on the swing and the stuffed bear all convey loneliness through their eyes and down-turned lips. Excellent! My dad dabbled in art, and I have one of his lighthouse oil paintings on the wall of my home. A lighthouse makes a great focal point for a scene, and I admire both of your renderings that feature one. I can imagine sailing on a boat far from shore late at night and spotting that beacon in the distance. It would reinforce my feeling of loneliness while at the same time offer reassurance that I am not lost and can find my way home, a useful metaphor that can be applied to anyone’s life. I look forward to seeing your “lighthouse after a storm” drawing In Living Color at some point.

Thank you for sharing your gifts with us again today, dear friend Cathy, and enjoy the rest of your week!

      Tom,

You’re so thoughtful and kind. Thank you for letting me know that you find pleasure in looking at my artwork. I’m having such fun with this weekly art challenge. It’s exactly what I needed to keep me focused and to drive my creativity. Whenever I colorize any of my art pieces I’ll be sure to do the same thing as I’m doing with my A2Z Little Mermaid sketches which seems to be working out pretty well. What a treasure it must be for you to have one of your dad’s paintings hanging in your home. I know he’d be honored that you take such care and pride to display his work. Thanks for dropping by so early this morning. I’m fixing to have my 3rd cup of coffee. I might have to make another pot. 🙂
