SWF: Clear Skies over Moses Cone Manor

Hello, kittens & dawgs! There were times in April we managed to slip away for the day. Our travels usually took us to the mountains. This day was no exception. We traveled to Boone, North Carolina to get on the Blue Ridge Parkway from that point. Traffic was light on the parkway, so we decided to take a peak at Moses Cone Manor. It’s normally a nut-house, but not on this day.

Moses Cone Manor on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Sharing this image with the SWF enthusiasts around the world!

A few years ago, I shared shots taken at Moses Cone Manor. It was different kind of day ~ mysterious and moody with the elements. If you’re interested, then check it out, here.

We enjoyed a lovely walk around the property talking about what an impressive place this must have been in its time. It surprised me to learn that the Moses Cone Manor estate sits on 3000 acres. WOW!

Now, I’m joining Lexa in Celebrate the small things.

I’m celebrating…

baking a new-to-me cake from scratch a Cherry Almond cake for DD#2’s birthday (she’ll be 26 tomorrow). It turned out pretty darn good for my first attempt and it’s pretty.

Looks like a beautiful place to explore! I love old homes like that — they are definitely a part of my romantic sensibility. You did very well on your art kitty!!! She will love that.

Lovely photo of the manor house. That cake sounds delicious, and what a cute kitty! Happy Birthday to your daughter! Glad to hear you’re feeling better.
And I love the Adventures in Babysitting movie you mentioned in your previous post.
    Have a wonderful weekend!

Never been to the Manor and it’s been years–decades–since I’ve been on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Someday I’ll have to figure a way to take that drive again. A drive from one end to the other would be nice.

Lee, if you managed to work it in on your next trip east then you’ll enjoy it after being away for so many years. It’s beautiful, especially the North Carolina portion. Some of the views are outstanding. Have a good evening, my friend!

Janie, the house is in good standing despite its years. What I meant by nut house is, is it’s normally crawling with tourists making visiting the grounds too hectic to suit my taste. By the way, I used a hyphen in nut house because WP’s grammar checker suggested it. Is that a wrong call? If so, what’s a general rule that can help keep me from repeating this mistake? I need your advice. Thanks, my friend!

Nut houses and old hospitals always manage to give me the creeps. Perfect post for Friday the 13th!

Mary, after reading Janie’s comment, I re-read yours and I think maybe I’ve given you the impression that Moses Cone Manor is a “nut house” as in insane asylum. It is not that, it actually was a private home at one time. But, coo-coo houses and old hospitals are creepy, which reminds me we have such a place in town that I’ve gotta go photograph. Thanks for taking time out of your busy day to stop by! 😉

    Hi, Cathy!

I enjoyed seeing your picture of Flat Top Manor, the home of Moses H.Cone, textile entrepreneur of the Gilded Age. It’s the kind of historic site Mrs. Shady and I love to visit.

You did a marvelous job drawing that kitty cat! Happy birthday to your second daughter! I am happy to know that your ailments are easing – additional reason to celebrate.

Mrs. Shady and I are celebrating a week long break from work. We have been on the road since Tuesday and are visiting some spots around Florida that are new to both of us.

Have a safe and happy weekend, dear friend Cathy!

Tom, I sort have thought you must be preoccupied with other things this week with your irregular visits and that’s certainly ok by me. Who am I to stop folks from enjoying life? I wouldn’t dream of it! I say, get out there and soak up the fun and sun! Oooo, thanks for adding that tid-bit of history behind Moses H. Cone. I wish I had thought to do that, but my brain has yet to get in sync after the A2Z challenge. I wonder how long I can use that as an excuse? 😀 Have a funtastic weekend, my friend! PS: Thank you for your encouraging words on my artwork and for the bday greetings for DD#2.
