Sunspiration – The Nativity Scene

Today’s Sunspiration post was inspired by my good friend, Sue, who wrote this poem.

The greatest story that was ever told
has naught to do with soldiers, brave and strong.
It makes no boast of golden treasure found,
nor causes lost, nor valiant battle song.

There is no gallant steed, no damsel fair,
no rousing tale of daring escapade.
No banner bold is hoisted to the sky,
no arrow launched from stony balustrade.

The greatest story that was ever told
does not take place in ancient castle keep,
but in a barren stable, rude and low,
while all the world in darkness lies asleep.

“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.”  ~Isaiah 9:6

At our house, I have a basic Fontana nativity scene (see above photo) to set up to honor the birth Jesus and chances are good this holiday season among your decorations you display your own.  I cannot help to think about years passed when we attended a spectacular production at a local church called The Living Christmas Tree.

The front of the church where the choir normally gets transformed into a huge Christmas tree (see photo below) structure filled with young people who sung traditional Christmas songs as the living story of Christ unfolded before the audience. It was not only beautiful but heart warming. This church still hosts this glorious pageantry, which can be seen December 14-15, 2013. Inspired in 201, I wrote a post on the nativity scene and I invite you to read it. Thank you for visiting and I leave you with one of my favorite Christmas songs, What Child Is This. Enjoy the blessed season!

  1. I have finally put my own nativity scene above the fireplace mantel. I put candles around it so it really is all aglow. My mom gave it to me, so it is very special for that reason too. I like that it is in a prominent spot so that my kids can also see it daily — a good reminder what the season is all about.
