Howdy-hi, folks! I hope all of my bloggy friends in the path of Ida are safe today. We watched a little of the storm coverage as it made landfall in Louisiana yesterday. Not a lot was going on at that time and I hope this hurricane isn’t too destructive. Okay, it’s Monday and it’s the last one for August. Wasn’t it just yesterday we saw the beginning of the month roll in? It sure feels like it and now we’re less than 48 hours away from the start of September. Time ain’t gonna wait for no man, so let’s not waste another second by getting this week’s Monday’s Mewsic Moves Me party going. Alana’s last theme for the month is songs about school or the end of summer, pick or mix. You decide!
I couldn’t decide or plain didn’t want to so I’m bringing to you a mix of songs covering both themes with my Summer’s End/Back2School playlist. Hit play to enjoy the tunes!
Summer’s End/Back2School Playlist: 1. Summertime Sadness ~Harddope & Lunis 2. Summer Love ~One Direction 3. Summer’s Almost Gone ~The Doors 4. Summer’s End ~Foo Fighters 5. This is a mewsic linky party. Every other week we have a suggested mewsic theme (see side menu) to build your song set around and all participants share YouTube or Vimeo videos for our mewsic enthusiasts. Failure to meet this basic guideline puts your URL in danger of being removed or labeled – NO MUSIC.
Not only is the end of summer in sight, so is my summer blogging routine. You’ll find me back on Wednesday with September 1st Battle of the Bands, so please stop in to cast your vote for your favorite cover artist! That’s a wrap for now. Have a boogietastic week! X💋X💋, Cathy

You have totally rocked the house girlfriend. So many tunes I haven’t heard in such a long time lately. I need to start listening to the radio more often or something. I hope you had a nice weekend. I haven’t even finished mine yet, but I drew a blank so I decided to hope around. YOU SO ROCK GIRLFRIEND! Have a great day sweetie! Sending BIG HUGE HUGS!
Harddope and Loonis are totally new to me – I liked that song! A couple of old favorites here, like Teach Your Children Well and the hard rock song. I couldn’t quite figure out who the group was but there is a secret hard rock side of me. School doesn’t start here until September 9 so we still have a few days before the school bus comes rumbling up my block (two of my neighbors have school aged children.)
Alana,
When we were kids, we didn’t go back to school until after Labor Day. I think that changed in southern WV. I know where my parents now live just across the state line in south western part of Virginia schools are back in session. Of course, in these areas schools start summer breaks early. I guess in the end everyone gets the required number of hours of education, just a slight difference in their academic years. I remembered loving the start of the new school year. However a month the newest was worn away and I was ready a break which didn’t happen until Christmas. I think we got about week off then. Shoot with the passing of time, December will be here in a blink. Thanks for joining me on the dance floor, my dear!
You picked some good ones here. A few of them I knew well but didn’t associate with school, e.g. “Teach Your Children.” I have no idea why…
Hey, Cathy! I’m ready for summer to be over and to start enjoying some cooler weather. Great tunes and love the cute kitty! Keep up that positive attitude! 🥰
Eugenia,
I’m ready for summer to end, too. I’ve stayed indoors most of the time but when we have to go to a doctor appointment or to bring our grocery delivery inside then I feel like a wilted flower in the heat. Our forecast is calling for a cool down after the rain pushes through some I’m looking forward to that! Oh sure thing, I’ll keep on looking at the sunnier side of life. It’s too scary to stay in the misery of shadows all the time. 🙂 Have a great day, my dear!
How i do enjoy your posts! We are safe here in our part of the swamps for now, and grateful it wasn’t as bad here as in some places.
Mimi,
Thanks for letting me know your status. I was thinking about you on Sunday. Wondering how close you were to the eye of the storm and how much damage y’all might be experiencing. We’re getting some of Ida’s rainfall today which is expected to move out of the area sometime tomorrow leaving cooler temps behind with its departure. That will be a nice treat. Stay safe and thanks for visiting, my friend!
Great quote and nice song choices. XO
Thanks for coming by to boogie with me, Ellen. I hope you have an pawwsome week!
Hi Cathy, it’s so hard to believe summer is almost over! That kitty is adorable. 💖 I enjoyed your playlist, especially The Doors. Their song is appropriately mournful. Did you and DH have a good summer, despite everything? Thanks so much for your lovely comments on my latest post, as well as the invitation to join the blog hop. Here’s hoping I can keep up. 😀 Wishing you a good week!
Debbie,
I know summer has zoomed by and although August is on its last leg, we are far from the summer heat. It should cool down a bit but we’ll still get mid to upper 80 temps and if it’s sunny then whew that’s just too hot, even if we are in the upper 70s then the sun boosts the heat index. We’ll see bigger changes once October arrives and the way the days are skirting by it won’t be long. Thanks for joining us on the dance floor. You’re always welcome to link your music posts to the party. You don’t have to worry about the theme, just get in on the action and have fun! Hey, I hear you about trying to keep up. It’s so hard to get back into the groove after a long blogging break. Just go at your own pace, don’t force anything, and relax. This way your creativity will ooze out of your brain and onto your keyboard. 🙂
Great playlist!
I appreciate you saying you liked the playlist, Nicole. It’s always nice when friends enjoy the music selections I share. How’s your granddaughter doing? Have a wonderful week!
Nice playlist
Robin,
I’m happy you found time to stop by to dance with me this week and that you enjoyed the playlist. Have a good week, darlin’!
That’s a good Spark and a good tune too!
Brian,
I couldn’t resist the Spark. 🙂 I prefer to be positive and if an pessimist can’t handle it then well, that’s not my fault. But, I hope some of my happiness rubs off on them. 🙂
Love the kitty. So cute. I’m hanging on little one.
Love your playlist. Hubby and I are ready for fall. All we’ve had this summer is heat and smoke from all the fires. Tired of it.
Love the Spark. Made me smile.
Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week, Cathy. Love and hugs. ♥
Sandee,
I think we’re all ready for fall. Ida is going to dump some rain on us which will also cool things off a bit so I’m really excited about the cool down. Change is coming!
Teach Your Children Well is a song from the heart of my young adulthood and from a music time frame when the message in the song was important. Looking back, I am not sure that CSN&Y were aware of how much the lyrics echoed the wisdom of Solomon in Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Yes, teach your children well. Have a blessed week.
I think it’s interesting songwriters from the past frequently referred God, Jesus, or even Bible scripture in their music. Today, the only time you have such references is in contemporary Christian music. I miss the innocence and wholesome meanings from songs of yesterday. Thanks for pointing these things out today. I don’t know that I really thought about it when I was gathering my picks. Thanks for the return visit and for joining the dance party, my friend!
Hi, Cathy!
Happy Pawww-some 4M Monday to you, dear friend! I hope you and DH had a nice weekend.
I wanna smooch that awww-some little kitten.
The first two songs in your set of school related songs are new to me. I eagerly bought the first two albums by The Doors, but bailed out on the band by the time their third album Waiting For The Sun was released in the summer of 1968. Therefore, I wasn’t familiar with “Summer’s Almost Gone,” a song from the album. To me it is derivative of another Doors song “Riders On The Storm.”
Your Foo Fighters song brings to mind a video I just saw yesterday that was recommended to me by another friend. It’s 11 year old drum sensation Nandi Bushell at the LA Forum playing drums for the FF on their song “Everlong.” Pick up the action around the 4:15 mark of the video and you’ll be astonished at Nandi’s talent and stamina as she thrashes away at her drum kit:
I like the acoustic song cover by Brandi Carlile. I admire up-and-coming artists who bravely upload their homemade performance videos on YouTube, not knowing for sure what viewer response will be. It’s been many years since I listened to Donald Byrd & The Blackbyrds but I do remember them from the 70s. The light, breezy summery sound of “Summer Love” reminds me of Hugh Masekela and Earth, Wind & Fire.”Don’t Stand So Close To Me” is one of my favorite songs by The Police. I liked the band more than I liked Sting as a solo artist. Our MTV station played that video often. The school song by the hard rock band Extreme was fun. I was 20 when “Teach Your Children” became a hit for CSN&Y. Penned by Graham Nash it is a standout song for the group, a serious song indicative of the period before disco infiltrated mainstream mewsic. I posted that “Cool Kids” video on my old blog several years ago and have been following Sydney Sierota and her brothers’ career ever since. She has the kind of clear, clean vocal style you and I both love. I never get tired of listening to her. “Cool Kids” has been covered countless times on Y/T in the years since that hit version by Echosmith.
I enjoyed these tuned for a Monday morning and thank you for posting them. I also want to thank you again for visiting Shady’s Place over the weekend. That was very kind of you and much appreciated. I wish you a boogietastic week, dear friend Cathy!
Tom,
That’s it, The Doors “Summer’s Almost Gone” reminded me of “Riders On the Storm”! I couldn’t put my finger on it but I knew the song reminded me of another song. Thanks for helping me to make that connection. The young girl is a killer drummer for 11. It’s amazing the talented young people that continual emerges. She’s one to watch! Thanks for swinging over to enjoy this week’s song picks on the dance floor, my friend. I hope Ida isn’t causing too much problem for you guys. We’re expecting to get some rain in our area later this evening or early tomorrow and with it some cooler temps which I’m looking forward to. Have a good week!
