Random Tuesday Thoughts

Stink Bugs, Premature Spring, Address Book, Oh My!

Last year, we experienced a horrible stink bug infestation in our area. In fact, it wasn’t uncommon to find several in our house in any given day until we found their major source of entrance into our home – the fireplace.

This weekend, we found our first stink bug invader. Actually, it may have just come out of hiding from last spring. Whatever the reason its here, I want to make sure we don’t have a huge problem with them this year. One thing I learned in researching how to eliminate stink bugs I found out they are drawn to lights, so be sure to turn your outside light off before going outdoors. Another thing is you can buy a light trap which attracts and hold these pests. I think I may give this a shot!

Yesterday, I could hardly believe my eyes when I spotted what I’m pretty sure are magnolia trees in bloom that looked very much like in this image.

After I picked my jaw off the car floorboard, my initial realization was I hope the frost doesn’t kill them out and you know with this crazy weather that’s a real possibility. We had spring-like weather last week.It is the end of February and it appears our forecast is calling for continued warm conditions.  I’m not complaining, mind you, but I am concerned about how all of this will affect nature.

For awhile now, we’ve been getting unsolicited phone calls on both our home and my cell phones. I’ve been puzzled as to how so many unknown numbers had access to our unpublished information until the other day the truth struck me. My DH was telling me about apps which upload a person’s address book without that person’s knowledge and then stored in their database for 18 months. Our phone numbers, physical, and email addresses are stolen just like that!

I never understood the real danger of allowing a Facebook app having access to my information and now I know. This is perhaps one way these unknown numbers have gotten access to my cell number. Oh, I don’t have my actual cell number on FB. Breathe a sigh of relief, right? In fact, I have my Google Voice number posted online, which is forwards all calls to my cell. That’s kinda smart of me, don’t  you think?

The next time any app be it on your phone or social media sites ask, would you like to locate your friends or is it okay if ABC company accesses your personal info and that of all of your friends or is it okay to use your current location? Then DON’T do it because all of your contacts and your privacy will be swept up to places unknown. Read more here.

Last week’s game of tag turned out to be a real dud. I should have half-expected 11 questions would be too much for most to have time to do. Why? Initially, I thought the same thing, but I was too excited to decline. Next time I’m tagged, if I’m ever tagged again, I’m gonna change the rules. Yes, I’m a rule breaker…sometimes!

Do you ever wonder how you got so many bloggers in your reading list? That’s precisely where I am and you know the sad truth is I can’t even begin to give them the attention they deserve. Some I find I have little to no common interests whatsoever. Do I continue to follow them or not? What would you do?

I know what you’re thinking, this post is a jumble of things. Trust me when I say, I ramble with a purpose. What’s that? Okay, I muse about random things so I can link up with Stacy!

Which looks like a place I want to visit every week!

We certainly don’t have to be too concerned about lions, tigers, and bears much. However, we all have fears. What scares you? I tell you what scares me, career politicians who keep their hands in my purse. I wonder if I can put a steel trap in my pocketbook?

Hop along with me and don’t keep life to yourself. Let the rest of us in on your rantings and musings today!

I have never unfollowed anyone. I feel terrible to do that. I hate when people unfollow me. But, today I am really bummed because GFC was deactivated for non blogger blogs. I knew it was coming, but it is still hard to see all your followers yesterday and know they were terminted by google today…

We should get your stink bugs together with my slugs – wouldn’t that be lovely! I totally failed the tag game. So sorry. I just have so much going on now that I’m hosting The Spin Cycle! But I think everybody still enjoys being tagged even if they don’t have time to play along.

OK at the risk of sounding dumb…do stink bugs stick? Oh please don’t tease me too horribly!

I’m so glad you found us, meeting new bloggers is the best part of doing meme’s! I’ll be back to dive into your blog later.

OMG! When I lived in Louisiana, I remember these bugs. I’ll never forget the lesson after squashing one and using a napkin to pick it up and having the smell last forEVER!!! They are by far the worst bugs alive!! omg… heebie jeebies!! great post!

Love the Cowardly Lion! He can always make me smile!

those Magnolia buds are giving me hope that spring is coming soon…which means I can be in my own garden soon! and is certainly one of my fave happy places!

Our magnolias bloomed about two weeks ago but then with all the rain, now they’re a mess everywhere. Peoples’ yards are littered with soggy flowers! I am ready for the sun to come out and dry everything.

I hate stink bugs! We were infested last year, too – the bummer is that since our house was built in 1817, there’s no way to pinpoint point of entry because there are SO MANY places they can sneak in. They are SO annoying – and stinky!! I’ve found a couple in the house and sent them to a watery grave in the toilet – I’ll definitely going to check into that trap…with the mild winter we’ve had, I think we’re doomed. 😉

I rarely unfollow people even if I’m not visiting them – I do wish there was a way to sort, because there are people I haven’t visited in a long time I keep thinking “Wonder if they’re still around?” 🙂

The whole app sucking your private info into parts unknown is one of the reasons I rarely give them access – especially the ones on Facebook.

I like your stink bug. I’ve seen them, fairly scarce around here, but have never been able to smell one. XD

I also like your cartoon where the bus drivers are learning to drive the busses by driver ed class.
    ..
If I were still doing The June Bug Collection I might ask you permission to ‘borrow’ your bug.

I showed a vacant house last year that was totally overrun with stink bugs last year! Oh, it was soooooo gross!!! They were falling off the door frame on my when I opened the front door….that was pretty creepy. I hate bugs, of any sort, and my exterminator is out every six months. Thank God is he is an old childhood friend and gives me a Realtor discount. LOL

I don’t like bugs. I hope you wont have another infestation. yuck.

Right now we will have to contend with moles again from the field next door. yuck. They make your yard a mess.

Oh and I like my privacy too and never locate anyone with my number or email. If I want them I’ll find them. People really need to be careful with having everything easy access.

What scares me? Regret that I’ll have in 20 years. (long story) Might not occur but based on the past 7 years. I’m saying a pattern is done set.

    *hugs
