Songs that spark childhood make-believe memories #RMF

Awww Mondays

Welcome to Monday’s Mewsic Moves Me on Sunday!

This month we have a new-comer as this month’s honorary co-hostess spotlight, Robin from Songbird’s Crazy World.

This week’s theme is your choice song picks which means anything goes, whatever mewsic moves you then feel free to share it!  Last week’s mewsic prompt set my mind a different direction when I stumbled on the bedtime lullaby by Judy Collins track 2 below as I sorta purposely randomly (that sounds like a contradiction but it worked for me) picked songs that contained ‘make-believe or pretend’ in the title or tunes that made me think along that line.    Are you ready to dance?

Make Believe (Driving by Night) was a big part of our childhoods.  From sailing on the water with My Bed Is A Boat (Judy Collins) to Fly Like An Eagle (Steve Miller Band), Pretending (Eric Clapton) gave us many hours of enjoyment.  I dare say we imagined shooting to the stars like a Rocket Man (Elton John) or speeding down the road giggling I Can’t Drive 55 (Sammy Hagar) like the maniacs were dreamed.  Even today, you might catch me imagining all the things I might do if I won the Lottery (Train).

Please readthis is a mewsic linky party, which means all participates are sharing songs that one can listen to from YouTube or Vimeo and a not a post about mewsic or mewsicians.  Failure to meet this basic guideline puts your URL in danger of being removed or labeled – NO MUSIC.

It’s now time to join the 4M dance party!

ATTENTION!!! Would you like to be an honorary co-host? If so, shoot me an email or leave me a comment saying ‘YES, sign me up!’ and I’ll secure the next available month for you then send you the details. 😉

All month, I’ve played along with Mary from Jingle, Jangle, Jungle in her 2nd annual Rocktober Music Fest rewinding the clock to the 70s sharing classic rock from my youth.  In my song quest for today, I wanted a taste of Christian rock from that decade and it surprised me when I stumbled across a very forgotten tune, Your Love Broke Through by Phil Keaggy from his 1977 album, Love Broke Thru

I’m happy to make the rediscovery of such a beautiful song and to know that the lyrics are based on Keaggy’s Christian faith.  Y’all have a blessed day and remember to keep those tunes playing and your body swaying. I’ll be back to my regular blogging schedule Monday morning. I have a whole of catching up to do, so please bear with me and I’ll make my way over to boogie with you asap! 😉

  1. Those are some really cool selections for 4M, and the #RMF selection was new to me. You’ve had a really fun party over here!

  2. Girlfriend, you really ROCKED THE HOUSE today that’s for sure, and WOW, I had know idea Conway Twitty sang and recorded “It’s Only Make Believe,” Sorry, but I think he gave Elvis a run for his money on that one. WOW! I’m so impressed. I have never heard that version to say the least. Oh wow, I was just reading that and did THOMAS ANDERSON post that on your blog? Didn’t think you could do that, but WOW! Now back to yours I think Christian Rock is very soothing… I like listening to it when I’m cleaning… sorry, but maybe it is a good thing because it makes me think. Thanks for the introduction to some new tunes! Thanks girlfriend… NOW get back to your man and do the VACATION SCENE!!! HAVE FUN AND enjoy each other! BIG HUGS!

    1. Marie,

Yes, Tom inserted the mewsic video into comments. I’ve done this on others’ sites but sometimes I run into problems getting it to display right. When it works, it’s really cool, though. I love it when my readers share mewsic on my site. Thanks for joining me on the dance floor. We’re done with our vacation for now but we’ll be doing it again around Thanksgiving and it’ll be longer. Whoo-hoo!

  3. Some of these songs were new to me while others are a memory from what feels like a previous life time. Thanks for sharing the fun! Conway Twitty was also fun. It’s interesting how songs change over the years.

    1. Joyce,

The talent was out of this world for decades but after the millennium rolled in, it seems talent took a backseat. All mewsicians need today is an investor and studio magic to make them rich. No one cares if they can actually sing.

  4. Awww on that cute kitty. So precious.

Love all the videos, especially Your Love Broke Through by Phil Keaggy

Yes I did notice how many tried to sound like Elvis, but only Elvis was Elvis.

Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week. Love and hugs. ♥

    1. Sandee,

True there’s only one Elvis but Conway had a similar vibe as the King in his early mewsic career. I rather like it over the real country-ish sound he adapted over the years. He had a good, solid voice.

  5. We just loved your memories believes, CK and we haven’t heard Rocket Man of Elton in ages. Still a great song and good memory too, Granny only forgot about what…must be the age 😉 The Phil Keaggy songs is very beautiful, we have found two Christian songs while I was steppin’ in too, that we haven’t heard before. Hope you had a wonderful vacation and glad to see you back. Now let’s start the Hammer time…MOL..Pawkisses for a Happy Monday to all of you🐾😽💞

  6. Hey Cathy, for someone on vacay, you do a spectacular job of entertaining your audience. I like how you created your story around song titles. Plus, loooove your mewsic selections!

    1. Eugenia,

It’s a whole more interesting if I can weave a tale around the song titles than to just list them, you know? Sometimes my imagination doesn’t want to work with me, though. It did for this post.

  7. Driving By Night was new to me, along with the Judy Collins song. I don’t think I’m familiar with the Train song, either. Started out “meh” but, about a minute in, I suddenly started to really groove to it. Your Love Broke Through was also new to me. Hope you had a great vacation, Cathy.

  8. Good Morning! Well, Rocket Man always strikes a chord with me. I’ve said that I would sign up for space travel as long as I’m not responsible for getting to our destination and back. I just want to go along for the ride and take a few selfies along the way and who hasn’t spread their arms and pretended they were a bird or a plane. Have a blessed week.

    1. Driller,

I remember when I was little how I dreamed of going to the moon but then a thing happened, I grew up and understood the dangers of space flight and I lost that dream. Oh to be a kid for a day longer! 🙂

  9. Hi, Cathy!

Happy 4M Monday on Sunday, dear friend! Yesterday was a grueling day of travel for Mrs. S and me. Returning home from across the state was the worst challenge ever. A tropical storm brought torrential rain and visibility on the highway was reduced to near zero much of the way. It was nerve-racking but we made it home safely albeit exhausted.

I like how you fashioned a story using song themes and titles. The Belfast based alt rock band Driving By Night is new to my eyes and ears. I needed to do some reading about them. Looks like they made a big splash in America and performed three times at the famed SxSW Music Fest. I love your selections by Steve Miller and Clapton. The MTV station where I worked played the music video for Sammy’s solo hit “I Can’t Drive 55” in heavy rotation on the hard rock/heavy metal show segment. Ohio singer and guitarist Phil Keaggy is new to me. I see that he performs mainstream new-age, folk and jazz-funk along with contemporary Christian rock. Phil’s sound is uplifting.

My contribution to your “make believe memories” theme would be the old school song “It’s Only Make Believe,” a 1958 hit by country crossover artist Conway Twitty. Listen to Twitty’s vocal and notice how much he, along with other artists of the period, tried to sound like Elvis:

Have a boogietastic week, dear friend Cathy!

    1. Tom,

Oh, I hate those heavy rain down! I’m so glad y’all made it home safely. We got some rain Saturday night into Sunday but nothing like what you guys had, though. It’s actually raining this morning. One of my good blogger buds is a die-hard Conway Twitty fan and she introduced me to Twitty’s Elvis sound. In fact, I learned from her that Elvis inspired Conway earlier style. It’s quite remarkable. I had no idea that he had such a rockabilly quality. Thanks for the video share, my friend. You always pass some good info my way. Have a great day!
