Wordless Wednesday

Newfound Gap Picture photo-edits #WW

Welcome Kittens & Dawgs last summer this time we were in the Smoky’s when I snapped this shot over looking the North Carolina valley from Newfound Gap.

The first picture there are not edits done other than adding my copyright.

In the second one, I dabbled with Stylize feature in Pixelmator called Pointillize.

Here, I applied a blue glitter background as an overlay. It reminded me of snow falling, but the landscape still said summer. So, on the background image I inverted the colors giving the over-all effect of a stormy night or at least this is the feeling I get when I look at it. Do you feel any cooler? Are you ready for winter to arrive?

What views are in the eye of your camera? Do you like to create photo-art of using your images through photo-editing?

In case you missed the mews I’m working on my site, repairing broken links and videos while summer blog traffic is slow. What this means is I’m minimizing my content by combining posts that are very similar such as (Not-so) Wordless Wednesday and Skywatch Friday.

You can find more photo hops listed under Daily Hops at the top of this page.

I do love that blue tint one — it really does give a winter wonderland feel. But no – I am not ready for winter yet!! LOL Too much sunshine to enjoy still.
I think it’s great creative fun to edit my photos – especially when you can completely change the look and tone as you have done here and create a whole new Art.

Les, anyone living up north won’t be ready for winter and I can’t blame y’all. I don’t like the summer months and I far less like the winter months, but I do enjoy the seasonal changes. It would be nice to have fall/spring kind of weather all year with the change in seasons. 🙂 I’m glad you enjoyed the photo-edits.

Stunning photos, Cathy, and your blog is looking lovely too! 🙂

Congrats – I’m thrilled to announce that you are our Friend Of The Week at Friendship Friday at Create With Joy – Week 239! Enjoy your reign and have an amazing week! 🙂

    • Cathy Kennedy

Thank you for bestowing upon the Friend of the Week honor. I sure do appreciate it! Thanks for the nice thoughts on my photos and blog. You have an awesome evening, dear friend!

  • XmasDolly

Your first one is peaceful to me, and the second one seems like it has a smoke haze, but the last one hold on a minute while I go get my boots on and my earmuffs and mittens…. brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Nope I’m not ready for winter Cathy pleeeeeeeasssssssssssseee.

    • Cathy Kennedy

Marie, Well, I know you aren’t ready for winter and honestly I don’t think I would be either if I had to put up with a lot of cold and snow, but it’s fun creating doing photo-edits to make an image make you think chilly thoughts. lol It’s so hot and humid here that it makes me feel like a wilted flower.

I like the first one, just straight out of the camera it is great. Makes me wish I could see it in person.

  • Noah Weiss

The blue one looks like a forest in winter, with snow covering all of the trees and the mountains or ground in the background. I like it, especially thinking about the current heat and humidity!

  • Janie Junebug

Yes, I look forward to winter. Of course, for me that means it might get down to sixty degrees during the day. We usually have a few nights that are in the thirties. I don’t need much electricity to heat my house. When it’s chilly, I close the bedroom door. The dogs and I keep each other warm. Your photos are pretty.

    Love,
    Janie

    • Cathy Kennedy

Janie, Oh, if we had winters like you then I’d be looking forward to it, too. lol Of course, our summers are easier going than y’alls. So, it becomes a trade-off of sorts. I don’t like the extremes either way. I wish I had the money to have a summer and winter home. That would be the life now, wouldn’t it? lol

  • Birgit

That is pretty cool what you can do with one image. The second one looks like a painting from the 1890’s and the last one could be. Christmas card

Interesting experimentation. I haven’t done much dabbling in photo editing or anything like that, but I don’t take many pictures either.

Have you read Cormac McCarthy’s The Road? As I was reading it I immediately identified the opening sequences as taking place at Newfound Gap even though this is never mentioned in the book. His descriptions are so on point that it seems obvious that this is the setting for that part of the book. Newfound Gap is a beautiful area of the Smokies, but what part of the Smokies isn’t beautiful?

Lee, I have not read, The Road. I agree every 244,000 square acre of the Smokies is beautiful! We often daydream how nice it would be to own all of the Clingmans Dome area. Can you imagine having a house where the parking lot is? I love it up there!

  • Suzanne Gunter McClendon

That first photo is absolutely beautiful! I love the fog coming up from the trees. The colors, the lighting, its all perfect in my opinion. Your edits are great, too. And yes, the blue one is instantly cooling and a neat effect, too.

Yes, I love to play with my photos (and those of others). I also like it when I can turn a “mistake” into abstract art, such as abstract expressionism. There is a group for this (abstract expressionism) on Facebook, too. I can’t remember the name right off, but I can search my email for it if you’re interested in checking it out.

Have a great day and keep clickin’ that shutter. 🙂

    • Cathy Kennedy

Suzanne, It’s so breath-taking to see the fog roll across the mountains. I, especially love it when it’s just a wee bit cool. It’s exhilarating! I can’t wait for the return of fall to be in the Smoky’s or on the Blue Ridge Parkway to experience moments such as this and to capture some stunning scenic shots. It’s creeping up on fast, so I won’t have to wait much longer. If you happen to recall the FB group, then please do send the info. Don’t knock yourself out doing it, just do it at your own pace. I’m patient.

      • Suzanne Gunter McClendon

Oh I can’t wait to see the fall mountain photos that you get! I know you’ll make me want to be home even more. 🙂 The Blue Ridge Parkway is just amazing in the fall especially.

The name of the FB group is: Macro Expressionism and here is the link that was sent to me:
        https://www.facebook.com/groups/963959800344509/
I am rarely on FB and haven’t posted on that group in a hundred years. I’ve just been too busy and FB hates me anyway. 🙂 I hope that you have fun with it if you join it. Have a great day!
