EvolutionOfAuthority

My got my first humor contribution Suzanne @McClendonVilla. She found it in an old newspaper online at newspaper.com. I thought it need an illustration to go with the dialogue. I hope you don’t mind the modification, Suzanne, and hope y’all enjoy it. I think it’s a real classic!  😉

Let’s continue the fun with Friendly Fill-Ins with Annie and Ellen. Every Thursday, she posts four fun and easy blank statements for us to borrow, complete, and post on our site. The point is to simply have fun linking, reading, and meeting others who enjoy this sort of thing.

Here’s my response to this week’s fill-ins:

We bought identical Schwinn bikes, except for the color (DH got blue and I got gray) in the mid-80s that look a lot like this one.
  1. My favorite way to exercise is to ride my bicycle, but it’s not safe to ride with traffic anymore, so my preferred way to keep in shape is use my elliptical.

  1. Something I learned last week was ….ah, I don’t know that I learned anything last week. Well, I’m sure I did. It’s just I can’t remember, if I learned anything last week. I could say I learned my memory isn’t what it use to be, but then I’ve known that for sometime.

3. I am sentimental about most things. Thinking about our dating years, our wedding, early marriage, children’s births, looking through old photographs, or touching something vintage. I tear up watching tender movies or reading something sad and I’m sure there are other triggers, but these are the ones that come to mind quickly.

We bought these little darling babies shoes for DD #1. I always smile and reminisce when I get them out to put on the Christmas tree.
  1. Some people might find it surprising to know that I’m generally a very private person, even with the closest of friends and family I will am not a tell-all-kind of gal. The way I see it, it gives the well-meaning people in your life more opportunity to be little busybodies and that causes more harm in a relationship than good.

Now, it’s time to link up with Annie and Ellen on Friendly Fill-Ins. You’re welcome to tag along.

1FFBadgeNext up, I’m joining Lexa in Celebrate The Small Things. Here’s my list of celebrations!enjoy-the-little-things-quotes

This week, I’m celebrating…revisiting our 2004 Maine vacation to Bar Harbor, Maine. We’re filtering through and organizing the daily journey with the photos we took to show DD#2 and her husband. They are taking a trip to Bar Harbor in a couple of weeks and we wanted to high light the things we did while there. Of course, DD#2 was part of that experience, so this will serve as a reminder of what a fun time we all had as a family.

What are you celebrating?

See what others are celebrating this week below and if you want to join the linky, then visit Lexa!

To continue the Friday fun, you may want to consider joining Friendship Friday and Friday Features linky parties where you’re sure to make new friends and get lots of inspiration!

The weekend is just starting, so I invite y’all to hop back tomorrow for some mewsic with Saturday Songsuasion!

Have a super funtastic Friday! ?

Annie, I think it pays to be private as a means of self-protection. I’m glad you enjoy the bits of humor I add each week. I think medicine is the best medicine you can take for the soul, don’t you? Have a good day!

  • Lori L MacLaughlin

Thanks for the funnies! I love looking through old photos. My memory’s not what it used to be either, which is why I take lots of photos when we go places. I hope your DD#2 and her husband have a wonderful trip to Maine!

    • Cathy Kennedy

Lori, I love looking through old photos. When we went on our last Maine vacation I kept a journal of things we did and saw, so it’s been great to re-read my words making the pictures come to life all the more. I’m sure DD#2 and SIL will have a good time. I’m a bit concerned because she’s been working so much lately that I’m afraid this will interfere with her enjoyment making such a long trip by car. Hopefully, she will sleep well while her husband drives. That is if she’s not too wired with excitement. 🙂

      • Lori L MacLaughlin

Keeping journals is great, too. I do that for the really special trips, like when we drove down to Disney World a few years back. I hope your DD is able to put everything else aside and enjoy her trip!

I had to giggle at the invoice one (although my hubs has no idea on the financial ends of our house). I’m cheering September’s arrival too! I’ve actually had to put on a sweater the last two mornings, although the weather man reports that we’ll have 90 degrees again for a couple days this next week. Luckily, he’s not right very often 😉

    • Cathy Kennedy

Tonja, it’s not been cool enough for sweaters yet, but I expect things to start feeling a whole lot better by the end of the month. I’m getting very excited thinking about fall’s arrival. Husbands usually don’t get the financial make-up of household unless they are actively keeping up with things. Thankfully, DH understands where the money goes around here.

Love the footprints funny!!! That would make a great poster. I find my memory not quite what it used to be either. But I am not sure if it is age exactly — I just think we have WAY TOO much information thrown at us these days and our poor brains need a data bank upgrade!! LOL

    • Cathy Kennedy

Les, the poor memory isn’t from age. I think it’s where we have too much going on that the brain becomes short circuit and easily overloaded. lol You’re right it’s time for an upgrade, definitely. 🙂

I love Rodney Dangerfield. He once said when he was born, he was so ugly that the Doctore slapped his mother…I laughed so hard. My form of exercise is going to the fridge, bending down, opening the fridge, picking up the orange juice and closing the fridge:)

  • Stacy Uncorked

The comic with the footprints is my favorite! 🙂 Oooh! Is that the kind of elliptical you have? I was thinking about getting one, so I could alternate between the treadmill and an elliptical to cut down on boredom. 😉

    Memory? What’s that? 😉

I like the things you’re sentimental about – I’m sentimental about them too!

I am so with you on #4 – we have very similar traits! 🙂

All great answers, Cathy! Have a great weekend! 🙂

Exercise and Learning, Sentimental and Surprising – Friendly Fill-Ins for Friday Fun!

    • Cathy Kennedy

Stacy, yeah I have a Sole 35. It takes up a lot of room in our already cramped house, but it worth it to get this kind of exercise. At the time we got it DH’s former employer’s insurance had fitness equipment purchase built into which covered $500. We bought ours directly from Sole. I went through Ebates (I’m thinking), got free shipping and it was marked down a couple of hundred dollars. We wound up being out of pocket $400 which was awesome! This unit works smoothly and doesn’t feel like it’s going to fall apart when I pick my speed up to a slow jog. I think you’d like this elliptical. Oh yeah, it’s very, very heavy! We had a devil of a time getting it into the house. You’ll definitely need the hubs to help with it, if you don’t have the delivery people to bring it in for ya.

  • lexacain

I loved your funnies, especially the evolution of authority! That elliptical machine looks big and complicated, but I’m sure it’s very good for you. I love the little baby shoes and think you’re so sweet for tearing up at movies. So do I. As I age, I get grumpier but more sentimental at the same time — something I never expected. Interesting that the pic of the gossips shows the one smoking doing all the gossiping. She must have been a wild one! Have a lovely time showing the vacay pics to your DD and her husband. 🙂

    • Cathy Kennedy

Lexa, I hadn’t thought about the gossiper possibly being a trouble-maker because she smokes, but you’re probably right. After all, smoking is rebelling and that means trouble. lol Thanks for visiting. I shall be by to visit soon!

  • Tamara Narayan

Great funnies. Love the one with the footprints, but then again, I never wear heels. In our house, the kid’s shoes might be the ones at the end, unfortunately. We have an elliptical machine as well, but I only use it in the winter. Still a few more weeks for biking and kayaking here.

  • pilch92

Those are great funnies, the evolution of authority would go one step further here- a cat paw print- they are in charge 🙂 Thank you for joining the fill-ins, nice answers and I like that you added photos too.My hubby and I bought matching mountain bikes a few years ago and the only exercise I have gotten with them is moving them from the attic to the porch and back again.
I hope you have a nice long weekend!
